July 10 - 15, 7-11 PM

It won't be long before the carnival “comes to town”! St. Mary's will be the place for FUN, FOOD and FAMILY entertainment. More than any other parish event, the Carnival requires scores of volunteers generously donating their time and labor.

Whether you have worked at the carnival for years or you are new to the ministry, please consider joining us to help out, have fun and meet new friends.

Summer English Language Learner (ELL) Program

A summer English Language Learner (ELL) program will begin Monday, June 19 (7:30 - 9:00 PM) and run until

August 2. Classes will be held in the Carnevale Center each Monday and Wednesday (with the exception of Carnival Week).

Program will be dedicated to Level One (very little English skills) and Level Two (some command of English).

Simply appear on June 19 for registration and your first lesson. Students from this past spring semester are welcome!

Thank you for your prayers during our Holy Name Provincial Chapter. The week was a success! We spent the entire week talking about our future, our ministry and our place in the church. Over the next 10 days or so our newly elected Provincial Council will sort out all the information, set agendas and make personnel appointments. I’ll keep you posted on everything that affects St. Mary’s as well as any news about friars you may know from years past. Please continue to pray for the friars!Today, we welcome Brother Roberto Serrano, OFM to St. Mary’s. Brother Tito, as he is called, is a formation student for Holy Name Province living and studying in Chicago. Tito will be with us all summer getting his feet wet in parish ministry. Please extend a hearty welcome to him when you see him around. We friars are very happy to have him with us!

Thank you for your generosity and welcome of the Little Sisters of the Poor last weekend. The sisters love coming here and are very grateful for your support.

Pope Francis’ Prayer Intention for June: National Leaders. That national leaders may firmly commit themselves to ending the arms trade, which victimizes so many innocent people.

It’s a short column this week! Thanks for all you do for us and have a great week!

The LEAD Graduation for our fifth graders took place on June 12. LEAD, an acronym for Law Enforcement Against

Drugs, is a program that seeks to prevent the use of controlled drugs, membership in gangs and violent behavior. Instructors of the LEAD curriculum are local police officers who must undergo training and give of their time for our children. St. Mary’s has been fortunate to have Pompton Lakes Police Patrolman Ben Singer, Patrolman Steve Koufati and Sargent Ryan Cichon as our LEAD instructors this year. A heartfelt thank you to them for all they do for our students.

We bid a farewell to our Little Friars, Pre-Kindergarten and Kindergarten students this past week. Our students in grades 1-7 will have their last day of school on June 20.
