BalcluthaOur fifth grade class set sail on the Balclutha last Thursday and it was such a memorable experience for us all. I was very impressed with the crew/staff that ran the field trip; they were professional, explanatory, helpful, and even provided a bit of comic relief as well. While on the ship, the students, or “lads” worked on team building, leadership, and communication skills when performing their crews’ tasks. I was also impressed to see how well the fifth graders stepped up and tackled those difficult tasks, plus how well they were able to receive and carry out orders from the first mate and captain. The staff of the Balclutha praised our fifth grade class for working so well together and for being a great group of kids to work with! At the end of the trip I even heard some kids saying, “this was the best field trip ever”, and, “I wish we could stay an entire week!” The students truly transformed from ‘green hands’ (inexperienced sailors) to ‘salts’ (experienced sailors) overnight! -Ms. MoralesCYOIt's not everyday Assumption kids get to meet an Olympic Gold Medalist and WNBA All-Star, but that is exactly what happened last week. Two time gold medalist Ruthie Bolton (Team USA Women's Basketball 1996 & 2000) recently surprised our 6th grade girls basketball team at their practice, offering wisdom and sharing her story of perseverance. "Her life story was both challenging and inspirational, and I hope to have the opportunity to meet her again in the future," said Erzsabet Gonzalez. Ruthie Bolton scrimmaged with the girls, gave one-on-one basketball instruction, and graciously allowed team members to try on her gold medals and take a slew of photos. Thank you to Steve Manning (Gabi 6th) for helping to coordinate this visit. In girls basketball 4th, 5th, 6th and 7th grade teams all won their games over the weekend.FactsReturning families & students are now available for re-enrollment in the 2015-16 school year Pending Agreements Dashboard. Boy O’ Boyd’s

• The name Easter derived its name from the Anglo-Saxon goddess Eastre, which symbolizes hare and egg.

• The date of Passover is variable as it is dependent on the phases of the moon, and thus Easter is a movable feast.

• The custom of giving eggs at Easter time has been traced back from Egyptians, Gaul, Persians, Greeks and Romans, to whom the egg was a symbol of life.

• When it comes to eating of chocolate bunnies, the ears are preferred to be eaten first by as many as 76% of people.
