One way to be involved is to become a Board member and elections to decide on the Board for the next 3 years will take place in May/June this year. It is an opportunity for parents, if elected, to continue the excellent work that has been done over the years by our very high-functioning Board. Full details will be communicated to all families by the external agency that has been contracted to run the elections. I am very pleased that up to five of our current Board members will stand for re- election. TERM 1 WEEK 4 2019

MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

What a great turn-out to meet the teachers back in week 3!

At that meeting one of the things I spoke about was involvement of the community in our school. I am very pleased that up to five of our current Board members will stand for re-election. This is helpful to provide some continuity and to ensure that knowledge gained from past experience remains available to us. If you want to find out more about what is involved in being a Board member try this link. You can also make an appointment to talk it through with me [email protected]

The strategic direction of our school is determined by the Board in collaboration with staff. For 2019 we have identified four important areas to work on which we call our ‘Strategic Imperatives’. These are:

• Develop citizenship • Engage responsively with our local community • Maximise learning opportunities for English language

learners • Maximise learning opportunities for digital literacy

I would be interested to hear your views, especially about what good ‘citizenship’ looks like and welcome your feedback.

The Government are proposing some quite radical changes to the way schools are organised. We let you know about public meetings last week. If you have strong views I encourage you to speak to us so we can make our voices heard as one school. Robin Kirkham Principal

Point View Walking School

Bus

Welcome to 2019

Hasn't the weather been wonderful over the last few weeks? It's perfect Walking School Bus weather and we have started the year with gusto and a whole lot of new members.

The 'it's a lovely day for a walk' attitude is just one reason why it's a great time to get on the bus

Here are some top reasons why you and your children should jump on the bus:

For the kids

1) Tons of cool events through the year…Pizza Lunch, Milo & Muffins, Iceblocks… and the Birthday Party Bash

2) Coolest…jacket…ever!

3) You get your own dinosaur name… our newest member is 'Aaravasuarus'

For the parents

4) Your children get to school … on time … (no more visits to Mrs Mac in the office) and most importantly, safely.

5) We are part of the Point View Travel Wise programme teaching kids about road safety and helping with easing the traffic burden that is always an issue around schools

6) Awards - Badges and certificates for being fantastic role models for road safety

7) Song singing… Joke telling… fun and games all round

8) You get to be come and see your kids perform at assembly and get awards!

And when you join the fantastic team of parents who walk

9) You get to shape the minds of future generations - You would not believe the kind of questions we get asked every day

10) You get to meet new and interesting people – we are pretty nice

11) You also get to wear the coolest jacket - obviously this one speaks for itself!

12) If you really want one, we will give you your own dinosaur name… I'm the 'PteroJaqtyl'

So if you want any information, look on the school website under the parent tab, everything you need to know is there …. and look out for us as you travel to and from school, we are the ones wearing yellow!

Community Garden – PVS HIVE Reboot Dear Point View community, parents, neighbours, staff and pupils

We want to hear your voice and ideas!

A group of teachers have teamed up this year and pulled in some keen child labour to try and ‘Reboot the HIVE’ to make it a more exciting learning space at Point View School. We want the HIVE to be a place where our community can go to learn, play and develop a greater appreciation of nature and our environment.

We need YOUR help and we want to know what YOU want?

Over the next four weeks we will be collecting your ideas for the PVS HIVE Reboot. Sharing your ideas can be done in a number of ways…

-You might want to hand write us a letter or send us an email

-You might be a budding architect and make us a plan or drawing of things you want to see in the hive

-You might be a LEGO fan and can build a 3D model of your ideas, take a photo and send it on to us

-Any budding ‘Youtubers’ might want to make a short movie and send us the link

If you want to submit ideas on paper please post it in the ‘Ideas box’ on the main HIVE gate or alternatively email them through to [email protected]. Feel free to have a wander through the hive after school if you need inspiration. Just think how cool it would be to see your ideas or inventions in the HIVE.

To help you with your inventions the Enviro Team have already interviewed children to hear their budding ideas:

“It would be cool to have more instruments to play some music.” – Daniel

“I would like to have a quiet place with beanbags and cushions where I can read.” – Eva

“More plants would be nice. Swamp plants will make the caterpillars come. Then we can watch them grow into butterflies.” – Sarah

“More things to play with outdoors.” – Matthew

“We could learn how fruit and vegetables grow.” - Chloe

If anyone is inspired to add their expertise to our group please do not hesitate to contact [email protected] or [email protected]. We would love the help from any keen gardeners, professional landscapers or environmentalists to assist us make these ideas and requests come to life.

Thank you for your time Point View Enviro Team
