A registered Scottish Charity SC040864 Issue 15. Autumn 2016 Happy Birthday - now we are seven It’s hard to believe that this is our seventh birthday! It has been an amazing journey so far, and we couldn’t have done it without you and your support! We also take this opportunity to remember Kiran, who’s spirit and inspiration drives us to support young people in the things Kiran herself loved to do. This birthday sees Kiran’s Trust well grounded in our giving areas, and we remain focused in Falkirk, Edinburgh, and Pittenweem. We always see opportunities for improvement, so we are going to rejig a few things, especially how we communicate with our friends. So, instead of overwhelming you with all of the exciting things we do in big chunks, we thought we’d go for the bite size approach a bit more often. This month we focus on Larbert High School. They moved their prize giving from June to September, and it was good to see some of the recent graduates and hear about their adventures into further education, work, and the great unknown. Kiran’s Trust shared the stage with Judy Murray and awarded four achievement awards—in creative art, photography, music, and creative writing. Our most recent scholar, Maisie, has enrolled at Dundee Art College, and we will be naming our fourth, yes fourth! Kiran’s Trust Scholar this year.

News Round-UpThe Scottish Junior Taekwondo Team sponsored by Kiran’s Trust has had a greatsummer. At the Scottish Championships, Natasha, Ciaran, Tegan and Lauren wonmedals. The British National Championships produced two National champions - Jordynand Erin; three runners up - Hassan, Tegan, and Taylor; and three bronze medalists -Lauren, Neve, and Alexandra.

Natasha made us proud with her stellar performance in Peru at the WorldPoomsae Championships. She was the youngest competitor at 12 years old battlingagainst others 14 and older. Jordyn is preparing for the World Championships in Canadain November.

In Edinburgh it has been all about making connections. Bia Bistrot hosted the EdinburghYoung Carers for our first Cookin’ Connections event. The amazing chefs and staff taught12 young carers about herbs, skills to prepare a meal, and after cooking in the restaurantkitchen sat down to enjoy a gourmet meal.

Space Artworks launched Connect and Create, which are art classes for young adults withlearning disabilities. This activity provides supportive and meaningful activities where newfriendships can be formed. Going forward we hope to exhibit the resulting artwork. Anyprofits from sales would be re-invested in the project.
