In the DVD Series 7 Laws of the Learner * - Law #2 - “EXPECTATIONS,” Dr. Bruce Wilkinson of- fers challenging insights into what is and isn’t true about expectations. One point is that we erroneously believe that our expectations are an unknown quantity to others. After all they can’t read our minds. Another point is that our expectations do not color our encounters with others. (You need to view and study the presentation to get the full impact of this important area of our lives.) Both are clearly and demonstrably untrue. It’s got me thinking of my expectations, and how I communicate them verbally and through body language, even when I don’t think anyone else knows what they are. It’s also got me thinking of what we expect from one another as mem- bers of the church family: our approach to one another, our reaching out or not reaching out to folks outside the circle of our closest friends. How many people in the congregation do I simply miss at the passing of the peace, unin- tentionally or intentionally? What do I expect of God? Do I expect to be aware of and encounter the Father through the Son in the power of the Holy Spirit at worship with the church? Do I expect the Lord to minister to me through the reading of Scrip- ture, preaching, teaching, singing and as we pray for one another? Do I ex- pect the Lord to transform me through the renewal of my mind? Do I expect THE MIRACLE WORKING GOD to work miracles in, around and through me and my brothers and sisters when we meet? Expectations --- what do you expect? “Transformed Expectations”

Sisters and brothers in Christ Jesus!

What did you expect? How often I’ve said or heard that rhetorical question. In the DVD Series 7 Laws of the Learner* - Law #2 - “EXPECTATIONS,” Dr. Bruce Wilkinson of-fers challenging insights into what is and isn’t true about expectations. It’s also got me thinking of what we expect from one another as mem-bers of the church family: our approach to one another, our reaching out or not reaching out to folks outside the circle of our closest friends. How many people in the congregation do I simply miss at the passing of the peace, unin-tentionally or intentionally? What do I expect of God? Do I expect to be aware of and encounter the Father through the Son in the power of the Holy Spirit at worship with the church? Do I expect the Lord to minister to me through the reading of Scrip-ture, preaching, teaching, singing and as we pray for one another? Do I ex-pect the Lord to transform me through the renewal of my mind? Do I expect THE MIRACLE WORKING GOD to work miracles in, around and through me and my brothers and sisters when we meet? Expectations --- what do you expect? Father, continuously fill us with the Holy Spirit that we expect You to be God, expect to be aware of Your presence at all times and in all places, and expect You to give us the knowledge of Your will for us as individuals and a congregation and the power to share the Transforming Love of Jesus Christ with family, friends, neighbors and strangers across the Concho Valley.

SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE AND SAUSAGE SUPPER “Fat Tuesday” - March 4th being the last day of the season of Epiphany, “The Season Of Light,” we will hold our annual Shrove Tuesday Supper hosted by the Vestry in the Parish House from 6:00-7:00 PM. Shrove Tuesday is traditionally the day that all meat and fat products are removed from the pantry in anticipation of the Lenten fast which begins the following day, Ash Wednesday. Join us and bring a friend, and come hungry! Barbara Robken is coordinating the dinner.

ASH WEDNESDAY March 5th begins the 40 days of Lent, not counting Sundays, in preparation for the Celebration of our Lord’s Passion, Death and Resurrection. The Season of Lent is a period of reflection on the love of God demonstrated on the Cross, and our response or lack of response in daily following our Lord Jesus. It’s marked by periods of prayer, fasting and alms giving. Ashes are the Biblical symbol for repentance, and are placed on the forehead of the hands as a reminder of our mortality, repentance and need of our Savior Jesus Christ. The liturgical color for the hangings and vestments is purple, there are no flowers gracing the sanctuary, the music is more reflective, with Alleluias disappearing until the Great Vigil of Easter on Holy Saturday.

SEVEN LAWS OF THE LEARNER

THANK YOU VESTRY! Saturday, February 15 the Vestry met at the Schneider Farm outside Miles for our Orientation for the coming year. Steve Shaw was appointed by Fr. Stan as the Senior Warden, Corey Peddy was elected as the Junior Warden, Barbara Robken was elected to serve as Clerk, and Jim Cogan was elected as the Church Treasurer. Discussion focused on how to encourage one another as we seek to follow Jesus and share His love with others in the Concho Valley, as well as encourage all the members of the church family into deeper fellowship and involvement. To help stimulate our think-ing and conversation, we viewed and discussed the 7 Laws of the Learner DVD - Number Two, Expectations. Other members of the Vestry are Teddye Read, Nan Barber, Billie Smithwick, and Tony Bartl. Billie Smithwick was our hostess on the family farm, and prepared wonderful sweet treats and a delicious lunch. Thank you Billie!

ALTAR HANGINGS AND VESTMENTS On Ash Wednesday, we will be using our new Violet Lenten Altar Hangings and Vestments. These were purchased through Memorial Funds donated to the Altar Guild over the last several years.

CANDELABRA

During the Christmas season each year we use rented candelabra in the sanctuary. The Altar Guild

would like to purchase a set of candelabra for the church to use for various occasions throughout

the year. If you would like more information, or make a memorial donation, please contact Nan

Holloway, Altar Guild Chairwoman. Cell: (325) 656-2468.

GOOD SHEPHERD BIBLES Sharing Our Story

Current digital technology makes the publishing and printing of Bibles less costly. It also allows for expanded notes within the Bibles. We would like to produce a Good Shepherd Bible in a contempo-rary translation for distribution to members and in the community. We invite you to pray about sharing some aspect of your experience in knowing Jesus by writing a brief article to be included in the Bible. If a particular verse or passage speaks to you, your thoughts can be shared in proximity to that passage. If you would like to be on a committee to organize, oversee, promote or contribute financially to this work, please contact Fr. Stan.

SPANISH CLASSES

Our new Bishop Mark has challenged the people and clergy of the diocese to pray and search out ways to minister among the Hispanic people in our area. This is a mission field at our door step. If you would like to join others in studying Spanish for that very purpose, please contact Fr. Stan. [email protected]

SOUL FODDER Fr. Stan currently sends out a daily email containing reflections of the Christian life and experience from Christians through the ages. If you would like to receive it and are not, e-mail Fr. Stan at [email protected] to be included. He would also appreciate your comments and reflections, and appreciates those who have shared their thoughts on particular offerings by email. He suggests you may also want to send them along to friends by email. If you do so, paste and copy the selec-tion so that church members emails are not included in forwarded emails. Thanks.
