Lunch reservations for all members and staff must be given to the front desk by 12:30 the day prior. Once a lunch is ordered you are responsible for its payment. If you need to cancel after lunch has been ordered, call right away. We will then know the meal is available if anyone else wants to purchase it. If the meal is not sold, you will need to pay for it. Unsold meals are billed to the Center at the $4.75 price.
TRIP RESERVATIONS Please sign up and pay for trips/events by the designated deadline. Your bus seat is guaranteed only when the fee is paid.
If the minimum number of participants is not met by the deadline the trip/event will be cancelled and payment will be returned. A late fee will be imposed on those not meeting the deadline date providing the trip/event has a sufficient number registered.
Current WSC members are placed first on the Center’s 16 passenger bus for day trips. Non-members may attend a day trip if there are unpaid seats after the trip’s deadline.

Lunch is free for members (not for staff-unless a member) who are celebrating their birthdays this month. Please call 651-3400 to make a reservation by Wednesday, December 10 so we’ll have enough meals. You must call because you won’t be automatically included in our lunch count. (City Fare sends Birthday cake only for those who have ordered lunch.)
SUGGESTION BOX
If you have ideas for programs, activities or changes, please write a note and put it in the lobby suggestion box.
MORNING COFFEE
Coffee for members is provided by City Fare and we ask that you limit it to two cups each. Other items such as bread, muffins, coffee cake, butter, jelly, cream cheese, etc. are not provided by either the Center or City Fare. Those items are sometimes available from donations by members. If you enjoy having a morning snack, you might consider bringing an item to share. Please remember that Marsha’s priority each morning is organizing the kitchen for delivery of home-bound meals and the Center’s noon meal; not putting out snack items.
COLLECTING SPECIAL ITEMS Thank you for your continued support of donating recycled eyeglasses and hearing aids for the Lion’s Club and soda can tabs for Ronald McDonald House. Please leave them with Gretchen.

When expenses go up this winter with gifts, travel, and heat, costs that you usually find manageable may seem bigger than ever. If prescription drugs prices are too high, do not delay in seeking help! $tand By Me 50+ coaches are available to help you find resources to help manage those costs. One option available to Delawareans is the Delaware Prescription Assistance Program (DPAP). Delaware Prescription Assistance Program (DPAP)
DPAP helps eligible individuals whose only prescription insurance is Medicare Part D, pay of their medically necessary prescriptions. DPAP provides each eligible individual with up to $3000 per year toward medically necessary prescription drugs.* Clients must make a co-payment of 25% of the cost of the prescription or a minimum of $5. The co-pay is collected by the dispensing pharmacy. The pharmacy will submit a claim to DPAP and be reimbursed directly. *The program does not pay for diabetic drugs or supplies for Medicare recipients. Medicare currently provides coverage for both insulin and non-insulin dependent patients.
Eligibility – This program is available to whose income is at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), see chart below, or whose prescription costs exceed 40% of their income.
This is only one of the programs available to help those struggling with prescription drug costs – federal programs and company specific programs are also available. Call a coach today and see what options are available to you – 302-651-3427.

CAREGIVER’S CORNER
Alzheimer’s Caregiving at the Holidays (www.nia.nih.gov)
Holidays can be meaningful, enriching times for both the person with Alzheimer’s disease and his or her family. Maintaining or adapting family rituals and traditions helps all family members feel a sense of belonging and family identity. For a person with Alzheimer’s, this link with a familiar past is reassuring. (Note: these tips will also help caregivers of people with dementia or cognitive decline.)
Finding the Right Balance Here are some ways to balance doing many holiday-related activities while taking care of your own needs and those of the person with Alzheimer’s disease: Celebrate holidays that are important to you. Include the person
with Alzheimer’s as much as possible. Set your own limits, and be clear about them with others. You
do not have to live up to the expectations of friends or relatives. Your situation is different now. Guard against fatigue and find time for adequate rest.
Involve the person with Alzheimer’s in simple holiday preparations, or have him or her observe your preparations. Observing you will familiarize him or her with the upcoming festivities. Participating with you may give the person the pleasure of helping and the fun of anticipating and reminiscing.
Encourage friends and family to visit even if it’s difficult. Limit the number of visitors at any one time, or have a few people visit quietly with the person in a separate room.
Prepare quiet distractions to use, such as a family photo album, if the person with Alzheimer’s becomes upset or overstimulated.
Keep the memory-impaired person’s routine as close to normal as possible.
Try to avoid situations that may confuse or frustrate the person with Alzheimer’s, such as crowds, changes in routine, and strange places. Also try to stay away from noise, loud conversations, loud music, lighting that is too bright or too dark, and having too much rich food or drink (especially alcohol).
Find time for holiday activities you like to do. If you receive invitations to celebrations that the person with Alzheimer’s cannot attend, go yourself. Ask a friend or family member to spend time with the person while you’re out.
Preparing Guests Explain to guests that the person with Alzheimer’s disease does not always remember what is expected and acceptable. Give examples of unusual behaviors that may take place such as incontinence, eating food with fingers, wandering, or hallucinations. Explain that memory loss is the result of the disease and is not intentional.
However you celebrate, know that the meaningfulness of moments spend together matters more than what the person with Alzheimer’s remembers.
Flu & You The best way to protect
yourself from the flu is to get a flu shot every year!
Washing hands, staying away from those who are
sick and covering coughs are good preventive measures,
but flu shots are best.
Get vaccinated at your doctor’s office or pharmacy.
