We are charged to worship the Holy Trinity in spirit and in truth (John 4). As we gather to worship this morning, let's do a quick self-assessment:
Are you already in tomorrow's business? Are you replaying yesterday's sadness? Are you feeling weary?
Remember friends, "They that wait for Jehovah shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; they shall walk, and not faint" (Isaiah 40:31).
Let's rejoice in that promise!
Musicians in these services: Ian David, worship leader; Joe Gavito, guitar; Craig Gysler, keys; Michael Middleton, worship leader; Asher Pudlo, drums; Dennis Whittaker, bass
Musicians in this service: Charles Hausmann, Sanctuary Choir conductor; Kathryn White, organ/piano

This is the fifth Sunday in Lent. We have stopped with Jesus at some fascinating places and heard Jesus say some challenging and some comforting things on His journey to the cross. This week we look at how Jesus framed the Last Supper in Luke 22:19 and how Moses out-lined ways the people were to be faithful going forward in Deuteronomy 6:4-14, right after God gave them the Ten Commandments. The common theme was/is remembering – or not forgetting!
1. When I say the word “remember,” what comes to mind for you?
2. In Luke 22:19 and Deut. 6:4-14, what specifically were followers of God to remember (or, put another way, not forget)?
3. When you take the Lord’s Supper here at MDPC or elsewhere, what do you focus on as you receive the elements? What do you think God might want you (want us) to remem-ber?
4. How do Deut. 6:4-9 and 10-14 play off of each other? What is one section without the other? Which must come first and why?

5. Remember back to a time when you were suffering or in crisis, and you reached out to God, and God was there in a real and meaningful way. Share that experience with the group.
6. According to Deuteronomy, there is a danger for us when things become bad, or if they are very good. In both times, we tend to question God’s goodness or our need for God. Why does keeping, reciting, talking, binding, fixing, and writing about God’s past faithful-ness help us face something in the present?
7. The past is prologue to the present. God’s past faithfulness is meant to serve as fodder for faithfulness now. What do you need to remember from MDPC’s past to help you know that God can and will be faithful to this church in the present?
8. When we are afraid or our faith is faltering, remembering (instead of forgetting) “primes the pump” of faith. Where is your faith faltering now? What and how will you choose to remember this week? Be intentional. Be specific. Remember, and take heart!
