THE "DISCOVERY" WHITES
White
Notes...A quintessential representation of the varietal style with both early
and late harvested fruit. Aromatic yet dry, this wine offers complex
flavours of zesty citrus, gooseberry, subtle lychee and pineapple with a distinctive elderflower aroma. The finish is mouth-watering
and incredibly refreshing. Perfect with seafood!
The geeky stuff...Planted on the limestone soils of the Cotswolds Area of Outstanding
Natural Beauty, Woodchester Valley is a family- owned vineyard and
winery established by Fiona Shiner in 2007 when she planted an
acre of vines at her home in Amberley.
The estate has now grown to 45 acres across three sites within the
Stroud Valleys and produces a range of award-winning wines, most
of which are vegan-friendly like this Bacchus.

that the wine was produced there long before Christ. Dão is one of
Portugal’s best-known and most prestigious appellations, having
been formally set up in 1908.

W155. Cowslip Valley Riesling
WINERY: Babich
GRAPE VARIETY: Riesling
REGION: Cowslip Valley, WaihopaiValley, Marlborough, NZ
£42.00
In the early decades of the New Zealand wine industry, flagons were the standard way to bottle wine.
The geeky stuff...In 1910, at 14 years old, Josip Babich emigrated from Dalmatia (part
of modern day Croatia) to join his three brothers, who were digging
and selling Kauri gum in New Zealand’s far north. In 1911, the brothers
put a deposit on land in Henderson Valley (West Auckland), which
became the family homestead and winery. A year later, Josip planted his
first vineyard on a terrace above the Kaikino Swamp gum field. Aged 20, in
1916 he made his first wine, under the name Babich Brothers. He quickly
gained respect by having the desire to produce only the best quality wine,
creating solid foundations for the company. Today, three generations of
the family are committed to honouring his legacy.
Notes...Aromas of lime and stone fruit with a touch of Granny Smith apple and floral citrus notes. Fleshy and rich with a nervy drive, through
to the botrytis bite on the dry finish. Lime, lemon and floral orange notes. Rich, complex and concentrated.

R258. Nebbiolo d’Alba Occhetti
WINERY: Prunotto
GRAPE VARIETY: Nebbiolo
REGION: Piemonte, Italy
£52.00
Notes...This single-vineyard Nebbiolo offers an elegant nose with hints of
raspberries and roses. On the palate, it is full and harmonious with a
long, positive finish.
Full and balanced witha luminous, garnet hue.
The geeky stuff...Alfredo Prunotto founded his business in 1922, and was one of
Piemonte’s most dynamic exporters until his retirement in 1956.
The company passed then to Prunotto’s friend Beppe Colla, now a
revered winemaker and one of the founding fathers of modern
Piemonte. His defining moment was the decision in 1961 to bottle
single-vineyard, or cru, wines from the finest sites—a practice that
is now the norm in the region. The Marchesi Antinori family first
began its collaboration with the Prunotto Company, at first handling
distribution, in 1989, and later, in 1994, when the Beppe retired,
became directly involved in the production.

R270. Refosco Ronco Dei Moreri
WINERY: Marco Felluga
GRAPE VARIETY: Refosco
REGION: Collio Goriziano,Friuli, Italy
£51.00
Notes...This ancient local variety produces a lively, aromatic wine with
raspberry and bramble notes, a bright, refreshing palate alongside
good depth and body, and a long crisp finish.
Aged exclusively in French oak barrels for 10 months beforebeing racked and blended.
The geeky stuff...This Refosco comes from a particular vineyard which is surrounded
by mulberry bushes (moreri). The hilly terrain is composed of layers
of sandstone and loam rock (limestone and clay) that once formed
the ocean floor. It was in the region of Collio Goriziano that low-
temperature winemaking techniques were introduced in the 1960s,
and the fresh, delicately aromatic style of these wines became the
new blueprint for the whole area.
