RING-SPUN COTTONRing-spun fabric originated in the middle ages, as a means of taking the rougher feel of raw cotton and making it smoother to the touch which was certainly more pleasing to the skin. The spun fibers were actually more compacted and provided a greater measure of strength.

Today ring-spun fabric is still desirable due to its softer texture. The fact that it is also more durable, makes it a great choice for the production of casual clothing. In addition, the durable nature of the material makes it easier to care for and helps your clothes keep their shape.

When it comes to casual wear from T-shirts to polo shirts to sweatshirts, ring-spun fabric helps us be a little more comfortable, while providing plenty of sturdy quality.

Rib knit is a textured double-knit fabric that has vertical ridges (called ribs) in the fabric and is highly stretchy in

the crosswise direction. The width of each rib is the same as the width between each rib. This helps the garment retain its elasticity, creating a snug fit with great shape retention. A 1x1 rib has one rib up and one down.

1901 John Wesley Hanes introduced new two-piece underwear, a radical departure from the traditional one-piece union suit that was popular at that time. The American T-shirt was born!

1970ies Executives at Hanes Knitting discovered that their white underwear products were being screenprinted and worn as outerwear. Keith Alms of Hanes Knitwear believed there was a viable business in selling white underwear T-shirts to screenprinters.

1975 Hanes introduces a heavierweight T-shirt, called the Hanes Beefy-T®, specifically for thescreenprint industry. Later that same year, Hanes develops the “screenprinter fold” eliminatingthe additional cost and handling of individual packaging.

1980 Hanes Printables becomes a separate division of Hanes Knitwear dedicated to distributing imprintable T-shirts and other apparel.

1982 Hanes starts its business in Europe with a European collection.

1990 Hanes starts printables business in Europe and very fast becomes a big and impressivebrand in promotional textile market.

1996 Hanes sponsors clothing for about 70.000 voluntary helpers at the Olympic Games in Atlanta.

2001 Celebration of 100 Years of Hanes.

2004 Transformation from unisex collection to separate Hanes collections for men and women has revolutionary impact in the market.

2010 Hanes goes Tagless®! Hanes introduces organic T-shirts!
