Titon manufactures and supplies ventilation

and window products – ranging from its

signature Trimvent background ventilator to

window handles, locking systems and hinge

systems to powered ventilation products

including whole house systems and extract

fans. As a manufacturer, Titon also invests

heavily in research and development, which

enables the company to use the latest

technology to keep its products both

innovative and cost effective.

Focusing primarily on new build and social

housing, Titon works with house builders to

assist in compliance with certain aspects of

Building Regulations and Standards,

particularly ventilation in housing. Titon’s own

dedicated Building Regulations website

of information on legislation, how it affects

house design, and offers tools such as CPD

(Continuing Professional Development)

seminars for architects and consultants.

Titon is a long established company specialising in ventilation. It was founded in

1972 by John Anderson, its current Chairman, and is based in Colchester, Essex.

It floated on the London Stock Exchange in 1988 as Titon Holdings Plc.

Titon employs around 170 people divided between its head office in Colchester

and its factory in Haverhill, Suffolk.

Sales and ServiceTiton has a strong Sales and Specification presence throughout the UK and overseas.

The Company employs specialists for each market sector in regional locations, in order to

give fast and efficient support to customers and specifiers. The Sales teams have a solid

technical background to assist in application problems and offer ‘hands-on’ advice.

At Colchester dedicated Sales and Technical Officessupporting the three divisions offer peace of mind tocallers via modern systems and extensive productknowledge. Many Titon employees have years ofexperience in the window and door hardware sectoror in domestic ventilation products and this isreflected in the Company’s high service levels.

This is unique in an industry where the traditionalroute to market is through wholesalers ordistributors, who by definition cannot provide thesame standard of service and expertise. It istherefore very important to the Company to retain itsexisting research, design, development andmanufacturing focus, benefiting the Sales team witha more empathetic approach to market demands.

Energy efficiency is the order of today. Seal up and insulate houses to reduce heatingrequirements and therefore green house gases. But getting the ventilation right is vital.

Ventilation, heating and insulationare the three factors which combineto affect a building’s performance,and also the occupants’ health.Ventilation is key to reducingcondensation and associatedmould growth – protecting both thebuilding fabric and the wellbeing ofthe homeowners.

To achieve improved levels ofventilation, heating and insulationand the balance between them, theBuilding Regulations in England &Wales, as well as other countries,are being regularly updated, but theemphasis continues towards morewhole building ventilation solutions.

For domestic situations there aremore involved requirements whichtake into account the totalventilation levels throughout thedwelling.

In non-domestic buildings, asbefore, each project has its own setof design issues and to allow forthis there are various documentsavailable give guidance accordingto the building type. These arereferred to within the Regulations.

Windows and doors play animportant part in providingventilation in a home, whether it’s

opening a window for ‘purge’ventilation or through the use oftrickle vents for controlled andsecure background ventilation.

Historically the most commonmethod of ventilation for newdwellings and refurbishmentsituations, and still applicable inmany circumstances. Our products include everythingfrom trickle vents to glazed-invents and extractor fans.

System Three

Titon offers highly competitiveCentral Mechanical Extractunits, together with a full rangeof ducting and accessories.Fully SAP Appendix Q ratedversions are available, withenergy efficient output andventilation levels.

System Four

Titon is also well known for itswhole house systems and hassuccessfully supplied MVHRunits across the UK. Again,some versions are fully SAPAppendix Q rated, developedusing Titon’s expertise in allaspects of ventilation. Ductingand accessories are available.

Ventilation has become one of the hot topics of the building industry in recent years – particularly now

that the Building Regulations for England & Wales are revised on a regular basis.

We have a fully trained and experienced team which specialises in domestic ventilation. They work

with house builders and developers, as well as local authorities and housing associations, to

Where some hinge systems do notfeature an integral restrictor, theTiton restrictor range gives thecustomer a choice of differentdesigns to suit various applicationsand window opening types.

Most can be retrofitted to give anexisting window that extra level ofsafety when not originally specified.

Some models do require keyoperation, some can be released by

hand. It should be noted that noneof the restrictors are classed as‘child proof’, as no-one can legislatefor all accidental operation.Titon recommend close scrutiny ofBritish Standard when specifyingthese products due to the riskinvolved in selecting the wrongproduct for the wrong purpose.

The Overture Deseo PC Anti-Manipulation Cylinder is tested andcompliant to the requirements ofPAS24:2007 for enhanced security.

The cylinder has third partyaccreditation under the BSI Kitemarkscheme ensuring that ongoingcylinder production continues to meetthe highest relevant securityrequirements.

The cylinder is tested to BSEN1303to the highest Grade 2 standardon attack.

The Overture Deseo PC Kitemarked 71series Anti-Manipulation Cylinder is anapproved Secure by Design product.

All Titon handles have a fireescape version, which features agreen push button without alock. This visual aid allows rapididentification of an exit in thecase of a fire, without the addedcomplication of a lock needing akey to release the handle.

This hinge for side hung casementwindows allows the sash to open to givethe optimum aperture for escape. Itsatisfies the increased safetyrequirements now demanded by localauthorities and other public bodies forside hung windows. The hinge alsofeatures an easy clean facility which selfrelocates upon closure of window.

• Allows a suitable window to meet the requirements of Approved Document (Part) B of the Building Regulations of England & Wales or of the Technical Standards Scotland, by providing an unobstructed openable area at least 0.33m2 and at least 450mm high and 450mm wide.

• Allows a suitable window to meet the requirements of BS5588 Part 1: 1990by providing a 500 x 850mm clear opening for fire escape.
