Curriculum vitae
I was born in a village called Ajerbeb 21 km east of Keren town in the former Senhit (or Bogos) area, Eritrea. The
youngest in a family of six children – Deru, Ametehans (+2012), Letehans, Tisnela (or Wajjo), Awsana,, I did my
starter elementary training in the same village when the Catholic Church of the Diocese of Asmara open a school in
1960 opened up for the first time by the Keren Catholic sub-diocese and later transferred to another more broader and
central district school called Besigdira Primary School between 1962 to 1968 and participated with other seven pupils
in the 6th Grade General Examination, the first and last group to represent Besikdira school in the era. Besikdira village
and it environs were later the target of the Ethiopian military and 118 of the inhabitants were massacred down inside a
mosque in November 30 1970. The village was destroyed and Besikdira school was closed for almost two decades
until it was rebuilt by the Italian-based Aid organization called Tukuul in 2004. In October 1968, Thereafter I entered
the Catholic minor Seminary in Keren town and studied the middle grades 7 to the 9th. I did my secondary studies at
the senior seminary at Asmara, Eritrea and graduated in 1977.
In October 1980 I left the seminary and got enrolled at Asmara University, Eritrea, and got a BA degree in
Management, with Great Distinction in July 1984). The Asmara University administration recruited for its teaching
staff and I taught Management and Organizations Studies between 1984 and 1990 at the same University. Then I
moved to Sweden (Fall, 1990) to pursue Graduate studies at Stockholm University and earned am International
Masterate in Social Sciences (June, 1993). I was soon enrolled at the Doctoral Study program between 1994 and 2000.
Then I got a PhD in Organizational and Management Studies (May, 2000). Since 2000, I have worked as a Lecturer
(2001), Assistant Professor (2002-2014) and as an Associate Professor of Management at the Umeå School of
Business and Economics, Umeå University, Sweden. My main roles are teaching at the Undergraduate and
Postgraduate program and research on organizational studies. My research interests includes (1) Change in
organizations: New forms of organizing from the institutional perspective. (2) Examining innovations in
organizations with a special focus in teamwork, and the macro- and micro influences on organizational practices and
change, and (3) Sustainability and managing diversity in organisations, and have studied about immigrants in Sweden,
with a special focus on and organizational and group identity formation and construction in the context of work. For
the wholes period I have lived in Sweden, I belonged to a couple of associations, contributing mainly on the ‘third-
task’ of universities, i.e., mentoring, delivering seminars, worships as well as consulting services for members in
Sweden (2006, 2010, 2015), Germany (2012, 2013, 2017), and the UK (2005).
I am married to beautiful Letai Raki and we are blessed with three wonderful sons, Sabur (1993), Medet (1995) and
Lannar (1999). These names are in our loved language Blin and mean Praise, Good Epoch, and Unity, respectively.
