Tsunami-Stricken Regions” Banda Aceh, December 10-11, 2007
“Learning From The Recovery and Reconstruction of Banda Aceh and Other
Preface
The tsunami and earthquake that struck Banda Aceh and other coastal area in Asia on December 26, 2004, although have caused a lot of destruction, also provide evidences of the miracle of nature. Learning from the recovery and reconstruction of Banda Aceh and other tsunami-stricken regions will let us be more prepared in facing such these disasters. The goal of this international workshop is to discuss appropriately what we have learnt from the recovery and reconstruction process. Another purpose is to share and transfer information related to disaster management as it is beneficial for practical needs and future research. This workshop is held annually to ensure the continuity of the learning process so that optimal result can be obtained. Simplifying the result of this knowledge hopefully can help the common people understand how and why to do the correct things in recovery and reconstruction following disaster. Especially for this year, the workshop is conducted in conjunction with 16th Annual Scientific Meeting of Indonesian Society for Remote Sensing (MAPIN). On behalf of Syiah Kuala University, I am very appreciative and greatly thankful for good cooperation with the BRR Agency Board and Kobe University to give us the opportunity to organize this international workshop. I believe this workshop is an important forum for exchanging information, and hope this workshop can create further innovation for doing better and giving simple guidelines or information to the community. Finally, I would like to give thanks to all parties who have given their support to make this workshop successful and wish all our distinguished guests and participants fruitful deliberations. Thank you. Sincerely yours, Muhammad Dirhamsyah Organizing Committee Chairman
