The Awards, institutionalized for excellence in workplace safety systems in industry, focus onthe robustness of systems and not just the performance. Good safety systems lead to systematicimprovementinorganizationperformance.TheAwardisaninitiativeofFICCIManufacturingCommittee& FICCI Taskforce on Manufacturing Excellence that works with an agenda of improving Industrycompetitivenessthatwouldenablethedomesticindustrytostanduptonewandemergingchallengesoftheglobalmarket.

Materialising this ambition requires enabling policy environment and also the need to follow globalbestpracticesintheprocessesatfirmlevel.Firmsandcompaniesthatdisplayhighperformancesafetysystemsandstandthrougharigorousthree-tierevaluationprocessarefelicitatedwiththeseawards.TheAwardsprovideabenchmarkfortheindustryasthebestpracticesofawardeesaresharedwithotherapplicantsandalsowiththewiderindustry.Hopefully,thiswouldmotivateandactasacatalysttoencouragetheindustrytoadoptrobustsafetysystems.

Dr. Avneesh Singh is the Director General, Directorate General Factory Advice Service and LabourInstitutes(DGFASLI)underMinistryofLabourandEmployment,Govt.ofIndia.TheDGFASLIservesasthetechnicalarminformulatingpoliciesonOccupationalSafetyandHealthatthenationallevel.

Aftercompletingpost-graduation,Dr.SinghcarriedoutresearchworkatIndianInstituteofTechnology(IIT), Delhi, on ‘MentalHealth of IndustrialWorkers’ andwas awardedPh.D. in the year 1989. Dr. Singh has carried out many prestigious national research studies in the field of OccupationalSafety and Health. Some of the notable research projects include ‘National study on IdentificationandPreventionof Silicosis in India’; ‘NationalProjecton SafeDriving inMajorPortsof India’; and,‘DevelopmentofNationalOSHProfile’.Dr.Singhhasalsobeenassignedtasksofnationalimportancesuch as ‘Development and Implementation of National Policy on Safety, Health and Environment atWorkplace’.
