Digital technologiesin the classroom?
There is a new curriculum outside of school and that is the computer games curriculum (Professor James Paul Gee) Sims single mother game modding
This disconnect between a student’s digital life and school matters because students learn better when they are engaged, and research about what engages them points to technology.
Media-rich learning is an ideal way for teachers to connect with today’s pupils.
Students should be makers rather than consumers. As educators we must become more than information experts; we must also be collaborators in learning; leveraging the power of students, seeking new knowledge alongside students

Our Students thoughts on using New technologies in the classroom
Sunday, 1 November 2009
The Problemin the classroom?
Pencil, paper, lecture, textbook, and test are still very often the norm. Is it any wonder that for digitally engaged students, school can become less engaging, less interesting and less relevant?
In attempting to bring in new technologies to the classroom often expensive technology is sold to us to perform single tasks. Money is often wasted. Equipment goes out of date very quickly.
The amount of time it takes to get from finding a useful piece of software, getting funds to pay for it through to getting it installed can be months. By the time it is installed it is out of date.
Exponential growth, “The Excelleration of Technology : impact on education and society” Ray Kurzweill
On average secondary schools photocopy 2,000,000 pages a year

The Next Step
Explore your ipod and consider theri use in some of your lessons
I am available Mondays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Fridays after school in Unit 20. Please drop in between 3.30 and 5pm. Use this time to familiarize yourself with the mobile learning lab and load apps that you wish to use in your lessons.
Use my time in your classes to support you in the use of the learning lab. Bring classes to Unit 20 to make podcasts for use in other classes or trips.
Please add links and comments to the blog or email me with apps and useful sites you find.
Bring your ipods, apps, iTunesU, podcast and findings to the next development group meeting and share your findings with the group.
