Stonebridge Properties retained Stantec Boulder’s hospitality design team to convert an office building in the heart of downtown Denver, Colorado into two hotels with a combined 302 room count.

If you believe in the long-term value of connective and targeted design in service to your success, we can deliver.

Changing the use from office to hospitality required perceivable day

and night modifications to the entire site and facade. Portals, porte-

cochere, signage, lighting and a new arrival experience are aimed at

creating a feeling of welcome and comfort. The 12-story structure is

subtly and effectively being transformed into a successful venture in

adaptive reuse sustainability. This project has been acclaimed as one

of the most successful urban adaptations in Downtown Denver.

The hotels each have their own front desk on either side of the first-

floor lobby, and the byproduct of that is a boon to the people who live,

walk and work near the site. It’s unusually bright and busy day and

night, with clerks and valets buzzing about, guests coming and going,

people grabbing a cocktail in the lobby bar, all activating what used

to be a depressing dead zone.

The columns and canopy of the building’s porte-cochere were given

a metal cladding, and light panels and large, circular chandeliers

were hung from its ceiling. It comes together into an elegant, urban

moment in a downtown that could use more of them.

In that way the building’s positive disposition is integrated fully into

the busy avenues it fronts. This sort of design goes beyond architecture

and into the realm of responsible urban planning. It invites energetic

strolls through the urban core and sets an example for other downtown

infillers and renovators to follow (Denver Post, May 2013)
