Environment Club Newsletter
My visit to Mother Home School.
On my holiday I the opportunity to visit the Mother Home School in
Cambodia. The school is only one classroom, but it is actually a shed
and a grassed area. It is an English language school where children
from local villages can learn to read and speak English. It was fun
being a teacher and we played “What’s the
time Mr Wolf”, which helped the kids say
their numbers 1-10.
It was a once in a lifetime experience; we
made a donation of $120 US from the
Environment club and some books and
sports gear. I learnt that children in
Cambodia are less privileged than children
in Australia. By: Alice Jae Wolfenden
Market Garden
This week at market garden we have silver beet, cucumbers, zucchini, eggplant,
lettuce, chop suey, eggs, chamomile, flowers and fresh basil. Let us know if you
want any other herbs; we have them in the garden and can pick them for you or
you can pick your own for $1. Ask one of our members to take you on a tour.
HNPS Mini Rover Day Last Wednesday, students from the STEM club attended the Mini Me Cityscape Chal-lenge. They had to code a robot rover (using scratch) to make its way around a model of Newcastle’s Civic Precinct to find a water source (The fountain at Civic Park) to put out a fire. During the day everyone involved put their coding skills to the test and were lucky enough to meet and chat to the Lord Mayor of Newcastle. Scan the QR code with your phone to watch a video from the day. By Lainey and Ginger.

Date Event Information
Well done to our class Idol competitors and hosts. You did a great job and we were very proud of you all. Jake you are the bravest (and most talented) boy we know! Ash and Arlo – you guys are the funniest . Thank you to all those students who have ordered their year 6 shirts. There are still some in the office and money is now due by the end of next week. Year 6 voted this year on a white t-shirt with a design (thank you Xanthe and Arlo!) on the back. This is so it can be worn later and is easy to sign for keepsake. The t-shirt can only be worn in the last week of school. Please note: Full school uniform must be worn at all formal functions (not this t-shirt).
FETE DATE CHANGES: Please note a fete date change due to year 6 orientations: Wednesday 5th, Thursday 6th
and Friday 7th December – WHICH IS NEXT WEEK…YIKES! Can I also ask that students begin to bring in
Zooper Dooper donations to school ASAP to begin to stock up freezer? Partially frozen packs are best for us to
refreeze as ones straight from the shop shelves can take the whole week to freeze.
STILL TO COME!

Year 6 Micro-Fete (and 5L)
Micro-Fete: Year 6 will be holding a “Playground Micro-Fete’ for 3 whole days as part of our main fundraising event this year. Our focus for this event will be raising enough money to purchase a new ‘tent’ or shelter (commercial grade) for sports carnivals and special events as our parting gift to the school. Year 6 have decided that 2 tents are no longer enough and one tent per sporting house is now important for EQUITY!!! Our main fundraiser is our ‘Bake Stall’ and year 5/6 students are asked to bring in cakes or baked goods for the WEDNESDAY, THURSDAY and FRIDAY of that week. We thank you for this in advance!
