It was like someone was sticking a hot probe in me and twisting it. My aches and pains became a constant companion. I would try to go sailing on a Saturday, no big deal. Doctors and researchers havenot settled upon the cause ofFibromyalgia: a complexdisorder affecting theneurological, endocrine, immunological, and digestivesystems. Many underlyingabnormalities have beenuncovered, but it is not certainwhich problems are primaryand which are secondary. However, studies have shownthat the pain and debilitatingeffects of Fibromyalgia can beeffectively reversed withrelatively simple changes indiet and lifestyle.

3. Intestinal HealthThough often triggered by a specific accident, trauma, or a viral infection, the stage forsuccumbing to Fibromyalgia is set beforehand in the intestinal tract; an increased intestinalpermeability (leaky gut syndrome) may be one of the primary defects leading to Fibromyalgia.

One is said to have leaky gut syndrome when their intestines allow more than a normal amount ofundigested protein and macromolecules into the bloodstream, giving rise to immune systemreactions, leading to food sensitivities. How does a person get a “leaky gut”? Dairy productconsumption by lactose intolerance individuals can make the intestines more porous. Largeamounts of sweets, snacks, soda, and refined sugar also contribute to an increased intestinalpermeability. These food sensitivities can cause pain.

In fact, sugar is one of the biggest pain triggers. Cooked grains also cause increased pain for manypeople with Fibromyalgia, possibly because of a hidden sensitivity to gluten. Intestinal dysbiosis (anoverabundance of harmful bacteria and yeast and a lack of friendly bacteria in the large intestine)also make the gut more “leaky”. Yeast and other chronic infections are very common inFibromyalgia, and lead to increased food sensitivities and decreased energy.

2. Heavy Metal DetoxOne feature of Fibromyalgia is that chronicinfections, whether viral or bacterial, are oftenpresent. There are several reasons, including thepresence of heavy metals in the body; bacteriacan use the toxic heavy metals as shields todefend themselves against our own bodies.

A combination of cilantro (Chinese parsley)and chlorella (a fresh water single-cell algae)does a very nice job in removing heavy metals.Cilantro is able to remove (chelate) mercuryfrom inside of cells in the body, while thetough exterior cell wall of the chlorella bindstightly to heavy metals to usher them out ofthe body without reabsorbing them.

Cilantro can be used in pesto or in freshsalsa, but it is also available as a tincture forthose who don’t appreciate its flavor.Relatively large doses of chlorella (> 10g/day) are necessary to achieve heavy metaldetox. In addition, garlic (because of itssulfur compounds), MSM, and high dosevitamin C all have the ability to chelate heavymetals, though none is a specific treatment.

Doing a challenge test with a health careprofessional knowledgeable in the methods ofheavy metal chelation may be a good choice, and can help track your progress.

1. Nutritional RepairFibromyalgia fatigue that comes just fromnormal everyday tasks can make you plan yourday very carefully, in order to manage yourenergy and not overdo it. Why is that?

Muscle biopsies of 10 people withFibromyalgia were compared with controlsubjects.* Under the electron microscope, veryrevealing differences were found. First, themuscle fibers were all neatly arranged in thecontrol subjects, but lots of zigzag patterns wereseen in the Fibromyalgia group. Second, significantly fewer mitochondria were seen inthe Fibromyalgia group compared to thecontrol group and the mitochondria seen wereabnormally shaped. Mitochondria are thepower houses inside our cells which make ourcellular energy for us.

These findings show that the symptoms ofFibromyalgia include damaged mitochondria. For people with damaged mitochondria, recovery from normal activity becomes likemost people recovering from a marathon.

There are specific supplements that help, butdamage won’t be stopped until the offendingcause is removed. The best way to do this is amulti-faceted nutritional program. TheHallelujah Diet works on many levelsincluding providing essential nutrients, anabundance of antioxidants, assisting removal ofcellular waste, and removing foods whichdisagree with the body, to name a few.

When I see children withterrible genetic diseaseimprove their health withcorrect, complete nutritionand see the tears of joy inthe eyes of the distraughtparents, I could care less

about proof in the laboratory.

In my recent book, Lying with Authority, Ireported on two genetic diseases, Angelman’ssyndrome and Huntington’s disease. Theseindividuals showed dramatic improvements inhealth simply by utilizing correct plant-baseddiets and some whole food (not synthetic)supplements. They took no drugs. I have seenhundreds of people with genetic-related diseasesimprove health on plant-based nutrition. Don’taccept grave pronouncements of pessimisticdoctors who say, “you have bad genes and fooddoesn’t matter”. Food does matter!

In the words of Dr. T. Colin Campbell (The ChinaStudy): meat and dairy promote bad genes; plant-based foods improve gene behavior. CardiologistDean Ornish agrees. His research showed defectivegenes improved in 30 prostate cancer patients fromnutrition and lifestyle changes.

Furthermore, doctors in Taiwan proved thatpeople with high homocysteine and inadequateB12 and folate have DNA damage. DNAimproves when B12 and folates aresupplemented. German studies show high carrot(carotenes), spinach (lutein) and tomato(lycopene) consumption reduced DNA defects.Herbs with polyphenolic antioxidants reducedserious genetic damage in Chernobyl clean-upworkers with ten times the normal levels ofchromosome damage—they reverted to nearnormal levels. The fact that vitamin deficienciescreate DNA damage has been known for years. One study gave human subjects kiwi and the

In 1998, a young German boy with a rare genetic disease called CDG-1b lost 40 units of blood andwas dying. Dr. Hudson Freeze advised giving mannose (a normal sugar found in many foods). Theboy was saved! Six months later Freeze learned he was fine. You heard about that event, didn’t you?

Why was it not a headline? A food nutrient eliminates symptoms of a genetic disease, of all things!Pretty historic and news worthy.

Did mannose repair the gene defect? The assumption by Freeze and others was that mannosebypassed the defect and created normalcy by an alternative route. It stimulated a backup enzymesystem to compensate for the defective genetic metabolism—not gene repair or correction per se,but it worked! Using nutrition, not drugs, to heal serious disease was thought to be hopeless;mannose treatment for this condition is now standard.

Dr. Chesnut is a licensed M.D. in Oklahoma. His current book, Lying with Authority, was published in April 2008.

Nutrition vs. Drugs by Dan E. Chesnut, M.D.

capacity to repair DNA was measured.Guess what? The DNA repair mechanismswhere significantly improved! Free radicaldamage was decreased. I could go on. I hopeyou get the message.

Can good nutrition help gene damage orimprove gene expression? YES! Genes dependon the essential nutrients. Nutrient deficienciescombined with toxins and/or abnormalpseudo-nutrients interfere with gene stabilityand render them vulnerable to damage. Thesefactors can be corrected or minimized.

In my practice I have seen children with Downsyndrome and other childhood geneticdisorders improve health, often dramatically, with correct and proper nutrition.

There have been at least12 studies documented whichclearly show that dietary factorsinfluence the effectivenessof DNA repair.

At least 50 genetic related diseases haveresponded favorably to multiple types ofessential nutrients.

Whether we reverse gene damage, improverepair mechanisms or bypass the defect is anacademic question not yet fully answered.Proof is there and it is growing. Shall wewring our hands in frustrated dismaywaiting for our doctors to see “enough”proof? NO.

Learn correct, complete, quality nutrition.Try it. It is safe to do so. Accept the reality thatsome very serious conditions have improved byattaining a state of nutritional excellence.

Healing for Life DVD: Fibromyalgia and Lupus

Q: Why is Fibromyalgia morecommon in women than in men?A: Hormonal differences play a role for sure. One hypothesis is that women have a greaterbiological need than men for iodine as breastsand ovaries accumulate significant quantitiesof iodine. Lack of iodine causes hormonalimbalances (see “bio-identical hormonequestion). This may apply to autoimmunediseases as well, which are also much morecommon in women than in men.

Q: Are there specific foods thatreally speed recovery?A: Vegetables may be the most helpful, withfresh, raw vegetable juice being the mostimportant. Adding greens to the juice andtaking superfood greens like BarleyMax willhelp supply the body so that it can mostefficiently heal itself. The foods do not heal;they provide the building materials so thatthe body has exactly what it needs tobuild health.

Q: What is the best type of exercise?A: Stretching exercises are very good to startwith. It is very easy to over do it withFibromyalgia. But as healing begins withnutrition and removal of emotional baggagemany have found that they are able to domore and more of the activities that theyhave previously enjoyed.

Fibromyalgia Q & AQ: How can I get better sleep?A: Getting deep sleep is key to restoringhealth. Low serotonin levels have beenimplicated in robbing people withFibromyalgia of their deep sleep. 5-hydroxytryptophan is a precursor toserotonin. It has been shown to relieveFibromyalgia symptoms in two Italianstudies.1,2 Establishing a bedtime routinethat helps you relax and wind down may behelpful as well.1. Sarzi Puttini P, Caruso I. Primary fibromyalgiasyndrome and 5-hydroxy-L-tryptophan: a 90-day openstudy. J. Int. Med. Res. 1992;20(2):182-9.

2. Caruso I, Sarzi Puttini P, Cazzola M, Azzolini V.Double-blind study of 5-hydroxytryptophan versusplacebo in the treatment of primary fibromyalgiasyndrome. J. Int. Med. Res. 1990;18(3):201-9.

Q: Is bio-identical hormonereplacement beneficial?A: Multiple hormones are disrupted inFibromyalgia. Replenishing low levels ofhormones with exact copies of our body’sown hormones can help bring relief. Somepractitioners are very skilled at this art. Dr.Brownstein, one such practitioner, added, “Itis impossible to have a balanced hormonalsystem without ensuring an adequate iodineintake.” (Iodine: Why You Need It, Why YouCan’t Live Without It, p 70) So, thyroidsupport would be at the top of the to-do list, with iodine, selenium, and tyrosine beingfirst on the list.

“Rev. Malkmus, I was so excitedwhen I found your book God’s Wayto Ultimate Health. Everyone shouldread this book, as it has changed mylife. I have learned so much! Kitchen Tip: Grind your pain away!

Veggies & Exercise for Pain Relief

Exercise may be one ofthe most importantfactors for Fibromyalgiasufferers to considerwhen searching forways to reverse theirsymptoms.

Regular exercise and/or aerobics are, in fact, even more important for people withFibromyalgia than for those without it—andmay actually help to reduce the pain. Aerobicexercise is known to raise the body’sserotonin levels, which in turn stimulatesendorphin production. Endorphins are brainchemicals that act as the body’s natural painkillers, whose effectiveness has beencompared to morphine. Thus, with moreexercise come more endorphins and thepotential for less pain.

However, the pain and fatigue ofFibromyalgia discourages aerobic activityaltogether, which leads to inactivity and de-conditioning, which leads to more pain andfatigue. One study amplified this message byshowing that Fibromyalgia-like symptomscould actually be induced in sedentaryindividuals, but could not be replicated inindividuals who were aerobically fit.1

Another study at São Paulo FederalUniversity in Brazil found that inactivity notonly leads to more pain, but to reducedoxygen uptake: “In patients withFibromyalgia, the anaerobic threshold andpeak oxygen uptake were significantlyreduced” and “…maximum heartbeat ratewas significantly lower.”2 Furthermore, a

finding by the American Heart Associationshowed that 80% of people withFibromyalgia were physically unfit in termsof maximal oxygen uptake.

Clearly, exercise is crucial for people withFibromyalgia—but there is good news.

The key to reducing pain, thereby stimulating

aerobic activity, may be as simple as

eating your vegetables.

Researchers in Finland put 18 Fibromyalgiapatients on a strict, low-salt, uncooked vegandiet for three months. Results revealedsignificant improvements in terms of pain, jointstiffness, and even quality of sleep. The studyconcluded that a “vegan diet had beneficialeffects on Fibromyalgia symptoms.”3

The decision to change one’s lifestyle is thefirst and biggest step to successfully managingthe symptoms of Fibromyalgia. Nutrition andexercise are of utmost importance, and indeedgo hand-in-hand.

Flaxseed is rich in Omega-3 fatty acids, which help thebody alleviate pain. Use a high quality coffee grinder togrind flaxseed, then sprinkle into a smoothie, on a salad,or in a bowl of oatmeal.

• Ground flaxseed can also be used as a thickener as the naturallyoccurring mucilage is released when it is added to a liquid.

• As an egg substitute, mix 1 tbsp of ground flaxseed and 3 tbspof water mixed together and allowed to sit for several minutes.

• As a fat substitute in a 3 to 1 ratio: 3 tbsp of ground flaxseedcan be used to substitute 1 tbsp of fat such as oil.

There is additional teaching on this subjectin 1 Cor. 6:19-20: “What? Know ye not thatyour body is the temple of the holy Ghostwhich is in you, which ye have of God, andye are not your own? For ye are bought witha price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.”

Clearly, the Bible teaches that the Christian’sbody is not his own…it belongs to God! If aChristian fails to care properly for his body,God will destroy that body! Let’s read thatScripture again: “If any man defile [‘makeunclean with something unpleasant orcontaminating’—Webster] the temple ofGod, him shall God destroy” (1 Cor. 3:17).

The average person uses more care inselecting the grade of gasoline to put in theirautomobile than they do the food they put

Why Christians Get Sick

In 1 Cor. 3:16-17we read, “Know yenot that ye are thetemple of God, andthat the spirit ofGod dwelleth inyou? If any mandefile the temple ofGod, him shall Goddestroy; for thetemple of God is

holy, which temple ye are.”

These Scriptures puzzled me for many years. It was not until I personally had physicalproblems, which resulted in my studyinghow the body functions and in learning theimportance of proper nutrition and vigorousexercise, that my eyes were opened to whatthe Bible was teaching here in this Scripture.

in their mouth. Nor do people normallyassociate the exercise their body receives (orfails to receive) as having anything to dowith their physical health. The Bible says weare “destroyed for lack of knowledge”(Hos. 4:6).

My purpose in writing this book is to sharewith you, my Christian brother or sister, some of the knowledge I have obtained andexperienced concerning the body and health.Knowledge that, when applied, has literallychanged my body and life—I’m now feelingas good or better than I did when I was 20years old.

The 85% Raw PortionThis portion of The Hallelujah Diet is comprisedexclusively of the garden foods God told us in theBible, in Genesis 1:29, that we were to eat. Thedense living nutrients found in raw foods and theirjuices produce abundant energy and vibrant healthwhile satisfying our cells’ nutritional needs so aperson no longer needs to struggle withuncontrollable hunger.Beverages: Freshly extracted vegetable juices,BarleyMax, CarrotJuiceMax, BeetMax, andremineralized distilled waterDairy Alternatives: Fresh almond milk, creamybanana milk, as well as frozen banana, strawberry,or blueberry “fruit creams”Fruit: All fresh, as well as unsulphured organicdried fruit (limit fruit to no more than 15% ofdaily food intake)Grains: Soaked oats, raw muesli, dehydratedgranola, dehydrated crackersBeans: Green beans, peas, sprouted garbanzos, sprouted lentils, and sprouted mung beansNuts & Seeds: Raw almonds, sunflower seeds, macadamia nuts, walnuts, raw almond butter ortahini (consume sparingly)Oils and Fats: Extra virgin olive oil, Udo’s ChoiceOil Blend, flaxseed oil (the oil of choice for peoplewith cancer, except men with prostate cancer, whomay be better served meeting the essential fat needsthrough freshly ground flaxseed), and avocadosSeasonings: Fresh or dehydrated herbs, garlic, sweet onions, parsley, and salt-free seasoningsSweets: Fruit smoothies, raw fruit pies withnut/date crusts, date-nut squares, etc.Vegetables: All raw vegetablesSoups: Raw soups

Diet EssentialsWhile The Hallelujah Dietderives most of its nutrients fromthe food itself, these essentialscan radically boost the body’sability to effectively combat theroot causes of disease: toxicityand lack of nutrition.

The 15% Cooked PortionCooked foods follow the raw salad at lunch orevening meals, and can prove beneficial for thosetrying to maintain body weight.Beverages: Caffeine-free herb teas and cereal-based coffee-like beverages, along with bottledorganic juicesBeans: Lima, adzuki, black, kidney, navy, pinto, red, and whiteDairy: Non-dairy cheese, almond milk and ricemilk (use sparingly)Fruit: Stewed and unsweetened frozen fruitsGrains: Whole-grain cereals, breads, muffins, pasta, brown rice, millet, etc.Oils: Vegan mayonnaise made from cold-pressed oilsSeasonings: Same as the 85% portion, plusunrefined sea salt (use sparingly.)Soups: Soups made from scratch without fat, dairy, or refined table saltSweeteners: Raw, unfiltered honey, rice syrup, unsulphured molasses, stevia, carob, pure maplesyrup, date sugar, agave nectar (use verysparingly)Vegetables: Steamed or wok-cooked fresh orfrozen vegetables, baked white, yellow or sweetpotatoes, squash, etc.

Liquid IntakeHydration is vitally important. We encourage theintake of at least 1/2 ounce of liquids per poundof body weight daily. We get this through thewater in our raw foods, our vegetable juices, andpurified water (distilled water is best, but shouldbe re-mineralized and alkalized with WaterMaxbefore long-term use).

The Hallelujah Diet Explained

The Hallelujah Diet follows a ratio of 85% raw, uncooked, and unprocessed food and 15% cooked food.

Fiber Cleanse begins theprocess of elimination of toxinsfrom the body.

B-Flax-D now with organicflaxseed, is taken regularly afterFiberCleanse, to allow thecontinuation of the cleansingprocess and maintenance ofhealthy bowel function.

BarleyMax offers one of thewidest spectrums of naturallyoccurring nutrients available toaccelerate the body’s ability torestore healthy cell developmentand function.

Why are the majority of prayers in our churches for healing? Why aren’t people receiving their healing? Could it be thatthere are natural laws in God’s Word that govern our health? God’s Word shows us how to live—including how to achieveand maintain perfect health. When we don’t follow God’snatural laws, our bodies do not receive proper nutrition, orare unable to remove toxins, the results of which are sicknessand disease. But when we choose to follow God’s naturallaws, we can restore proper nutrients, and enabling our bodiesto be self-healing as He created them to be.

The Hallelujah Recovery Diet

The Hallelujah Recovery Diet is identicalto The Hallelujah Diet but increases thenumber of servings of BarleyMax fromthree to six, and the number of vegetablejuices from two to six.

For example:

• Start with a BarleyMax at 7:00 a.m.

• Then a vegetable juice at 8:00 a.m.

• Have another BarleyMax at 9:00 a.m.

• Alternate the two juices every otherhour (skip juice during the lunchand supper hour).

These juices provide the body with thebuilding materials it so desperatelyneeds to carry out the functions Goddesigned – literally healing itself. Onthis Recovery Diet, fruit should bekept to a minimum so that intakedoes not exceed 15% of the total diet.

One gentleman reported that after sixmonths on this Recovery Diet he hadlost 60 pounds in weight, and 28different physical problems haddisappeared from his body.

BreakfastUpon rising, take one serving of BarleyMax,either in capsule or powder form (powderform is best if consumed dry). You may takethe powder dry, allowing it to dissolve in themouth or by mixing it with a few ounces ofpurified water or fresh vegetable juice. It isbest not to consume food containing fiberfirst thing in the morning, as fiber hindersthe body’s cleansing and eliminating effortswhich continue for several hours after rising.

If a person feels the need of something withfiber at breakfast, a piece of fruit or a fruitsmoothie could be eaten and, if necessary, some whole grain cereal with almond orrice milk.

NOTE: Children need more than BarleyMaxfor breakfast; after BarleyMax, a breakfast ofraw fruit and whole grain (hot or cold) cerealswould be a good choice. Children need a dietconsisting of about 50% raw foods and 50%cooked foods to insure adequate caloric intake.Children are growing rapidly. They need moregood fats and proteins than adults and theymay need more frequent meals.

Mid-MorningDrink an 8 oz glass of fresh vegetable juice(two-thirds carrot and one-third greens). Iffresh juice is not available, the next bestchoice is a combination serving ofCarrotJuiceMax and BarleyMax, or a pieceof juicy, fresh fruit.

Thirty minutes later is an excellent time touse FiberCleanse as directed, B-Flax-D, orfreshly ground flax seed to help maintainoptimal bowel function. If a person did nothave any fiber food for breakfast, a fruitsmoothie is an excellent way to take theirground flax seed or B-Flax-D.

For those who need to stabilize blood sugar,or keep hunger under control and supportbody weight, some celery sticks, broccoli, orcauliflower florets, etc., spread with almondbutter could be consumed.

A Day on The Hallelujah Diet

Food for

Thought!

“Most Americans just take it for granted that if aproduct is sold for food then it is safe to eat. Not so!”

Why Christians Get Sick, by Rev. George Malkmus (page 45)

“And God said, behold, Ihave given you every herb

bearing seed, which isupon the face of all theearth, and every tree, inthe which is the fruit of atree yielding seed; to youit shall be for meat (food).”

Genesis 1:29

LunchAt least 20 minutes before lunch have anotherserving of BarleyMax, as at breakfast. If fruit hasbeen consumed during the morning hours, havea vegetable salad. Too much fruit in a day is notadvised, and though the sugar is natural, toomuch sugar can cause problems. (Fruits cleansethe body, while vegetables feed the body.)

While we prefer to keep the lunch mealraw, a little cooked food at noon is fine, especially if a person wants to gain weight.A whole grain pitapocket filled with veggiesmakes a nice meal for those who would likesome cooked food at lunchtime.

Mid-AfternoonDrink an 8 oz glass of carrot/vegetable juice. If juice is not available, a serving ofCarrotJuiceMax and BarleyMax, or somecarrot or celery sticks would be next best.

SupperAt least 20 minutes before supper have anotherserving of BarleyMax. Then have a LARGEgreen salad comprised of leaf lettuce (never headlettuce as it has very little nutritional value)along with a variety of vegetables, includingsome avocado or ground seeds or nuts. Ablended salad, when practical, comprised of allthe veggies that would go into a regular saladplus additional greens (spinach, kale, etc.)increases nutrient value tremendously.

After the salad comes the cooked food portion. This could be steamed veggies, baked sweetpotato, whole grains, whole grain pasta, squash(baked or steamed), or beans.

EveningIf desired, enjoy a piece of juicy fresh fruitor a glass of freshly extracted apple or pearjuice, or a glass of 100% organic apple or grapejuice. It is best to not consume anythingcontaining fiber after the supper hour.

Beverages: Alcohol, coffee (grain coffees likePero and Roma are good), teas containingcaffeine (caffeine-free herb teas are fine),carbonated beverages and soft drinks, allartificial and sugar containing drinks, sportdrinks, and all juices containing preservatives, refined salt, sugar, and artificial sweetenersshould be avoided. (Refined sugar suppressesthe immune system and prevents its ability toprotect us from germs, viruses, and badbacteria. One 12 oz soft drink containsapproximately 11 teaspoons of sugar and ifconsumed daily for one year, adds 15 poundsof weight.)

Dairy: All milk, cheese, eggs, ice cream, whipped toppings, and non-dairy creamers.(Cow milk and cheese are some of the mostdangerous foods we can place into our body.Read Dr. T. Colin Campbell’s book, The ChinaStudy, for documentation.)

Soy Milk and other Soy Products: Most soyproducts should be avoided. Soy is high inestrogen. The estrogen in soy formulas has beenknown to cause baby girls to develop breastbuds as young as two years of age, and the ageof puberty, which should be past the age of 15years, is now as early as 8, 9, and 10 years. Thegrowth hormones in animal flesh and dairy arealso contributing to this problem. Estrogen canbe a contributing factor in all female cancers, and the high protein content of soy canactually feed cancers.

Fruit: Canned and sweetened fruits, along withnon-organic and sulfured dried fruits.

Grains: Refined, bleached flour products, mostcold breakfast cereals, and white rice. (Refinedgrains are devoid of fiber and thus one of theleading causes of constipation. Animal-sourcefoods are also totally devoid of fiber.)

Meats: Beef, pork, fish, chicken, turkey, hamburgers, hot dogs, bacon, sausage, bologna, etc. (All animal-source foods are harmful to thebody and are the cause of up to 90% of allphysical problems. Eliminating animal sourcefoods can practically eliminate any fear of everexperiencing a heart attack, stroke, cardiovascular problems, cancer, diabetes, osteoporosis, heartburn, gout, acid stomach, and the list goes on and on.)

Nuts and Seeds: All roasted and/or salted seedsand nuts. (Peanuts are not a nut but a legume, and very difficult to digest).

Oils: All lard, margarine, shortenings, andanything containing hydrogenated oils ortrans fats.

Seasonings: Refined table salt and anyseasonings containing it. Refined table salt isalmost pure sodium and chloride and is aleading cause of high blood pressure. (Celtic orEden Sea Salt, a natural, unrefined salt from thesea, is a good choice.)

Soups: All canned, packaged, or creamed soupscontaining salt or dairy products.

Sweets: All refined white or brown sugar(brown sugar is simply refined white sugar withsome molasses added for color), sugar syrups, chocolate (carob is a wonderful chocolatesubstitute), candy, gum, cookies, donuts, cakes, pies, or other products containing refinedsugars or artificial sweeteners (acceptablesweeteners include raw unfiltered honey, stevia, agave nectar, and pure maple syrup).

Vegetables: All canned vegetables with addedsalt or preservatives, or vegetables fried in oil.

All Drugs: Though these are not foods, mostare addictive and very destructive within thebody: alcohol, nicotine, marijuana, caffeine, cocaine, heroin, etc., along with many over thecounter and doctor prescribed drugs.

Foods to AvoidWhat most people do not realize is that almost every physical problem theyexperience (other than accidents) has a diet-related cause. Because our physicalbody is designed by God to be nourished with living (raw) foods, it is imperativethat the greatest percentage of our daily food intake be comprised of raw foods—and that we avoid the foods that are causing the problems in the first place.

WaterMax remineralizes andalkalizes distilled water to benefitthe body and improve hydration.

Probiotics help inhibit theproliferation of pathogenic bacteria, produce B vitamins, and maintainoverall optimal colon health.

Digestive Enzymes helpimprove digestion and theabsorption of nutrients fromthe foods we eat.

My journey into the public health ministryofficially started in January 2006, almost twomonths after I completed the Health Ministertraining at Hallelujah Acres. I gave a two-hourseminar introducing The Hallelujah Diet at alocal library in Medford, Oregon. There werealmost 100 people in attendance.

Getting people to attend the seminar wassimple. My chiropractic/physical therapypractice, Dolphin Health and Education, givesme access to a large database of patients as wellas referring physicians. I sent letters to all thereferring physicians informing them of a newlifestyle program in my practice. Interestingly, the physician referrals started to dwindle. I feltrejected. The disappointment was severe. I hadto rethink about how I could get the programto be accessible to the public withoutdepending on physician referrals.

I began to hold free seminars every threemonths to introduce The Hallelujah Diet, firstat the city library and later at a local hospital. Iplaced newspaper ads with before-and-afterphotos of former class participants who showedthe biggest success in weight loss. People startedto call my office as a result of the ads. To date, Ihave had at least 150 people take the GetHealthy Stay Balanced (GHSB) course.

I also became an approved speaker for localchurches in a Christian denomination, whichimmediately became a huge draw to TheHallelujah Diet. Last year I was a guest speakerfor four churches. This year I plan to speak in10 to 12 churches.

In 2007 I started to include pre and post healthscreens for all GHSB course participants. Thehealth screens include personal intake formsdescribing their medical conditions (if any) andlifestyle, vitals, saliva/urine pH analysis, anthropometric measurements such asabdominal girth, body fat analysis and bodymass index and more.

I also started a range of lifestyle educationclasses as well, including:

• Dolphin 101 - “Get Healthy Lifestyle” isa basic, four-hour dietary program whichdemonstrates how a person in theStandard American Diet can transitionto The Hallelujah Diet meal schedule.Proper food combining and groceryshopping is also covered.

• Dolphin 102 - “You Don’t Have to beSick” is a one-hour presentation abouthealth from a Biblical perspective forchurches.

• Dolphin 103 - “Back to the Garden” is amonthly, three-hour free seminar on TheHallelujah Diet presented in a localhospital conference room.

• Dolphin 104 - “You Don’t Have to beFat” is a five-hour maximum weight lossprogram based on a raw food diet.

• Dolphin 105 - “Nutritional Medicine” is afour-hour course presented by HealthMinisters, Miven Donato, PT, DC andPeter Cho, MD. This is a brand new coursescheduled to begin in January 2009.

• Dolphin 106 - “Get Healthy Boot Camp”is the flagship program of Dolphin Health& Education.

Details of these courses are on my newwebsite: www.DolphinDoctor.org.

In addition to providing clinical care, mywellness center has a classroom and a healthresource center. I hold a monthly supportgroup for graudates of the GHSB course.Anyone receiving clinical care is introduced toThe Hallelujah Diet at the first visit. Thereare flyers, announcements, and newslettersavailable in the waiting room.

I have several powerful testimonies from peoplewho have attended our GHSB courses. One isfrom an insulin-dependent type-2 diabetic wholost 50 pounds in less than eight weeks. Afterjust three weeks on The Hallelujah Diet, hewas off insulin medication.

I know that God is guiding and leading me inspreading the Biblical health message insouthern Oregon. It will be interesting to seewhat will happen this year.

Improved! B-Flax-D

IMPROVED! B-Flax-D™

Now made with organic cold-milled flaxseed, Vitamin K and higherlevels of Vitamin D3! B-Flax-D by Hallelujah Acres is a rich sourceof both soluble and insoluble fiber, plus a wealth of vitamins and

minerals to help achieve and maintain excellent health.

B-Flax-D Ingredients:

B-Flax-D is best taken on an empty stomach, 30 minutes or morebefore a meal, or 2-3 hours after. Adult serving: mix 1 to 2 table-spoons of B-Flax-D with 6 to 8 ounces of water or juice. Graduallywork up to a full serving of ¼ cup. Servings per container: 45.

* Seleno-yeast is not candida yeast and should not encourage thegrowth of candida. Please visit www.hacres.com for details.

• Organic Cold-milled Flaxseed- Valuable source of soluble and

insoluble fiber- Provides Omega-3 essential fats, and

many other nutrients to help achieve and maintain optimal bowel function

• Seleno Yeast- A source of selenium, a mineral with

powerful anti-viral and disease-fighting properties.*

• Vitamin D (cholecalciferol-2,000 IU)- Assists the body in the absorption of

minerals like calcium

• Vitamin B12 (methylcobalamin 990 mcg)- B12 has been shown to prevent

nerve damage- B12 aids healthy cell formation

• Zinc Gluconate

• Vitamin B6 (pyrodixine hydrochloride)

• No artificial colors or preservatives

Insoluble fiber from flax holds water and increases bulk, which helps to maintain optimalbowel function. Soluble fiber also helps absorb cholesterol, which keeps it from beingreabsorbed from the intestine. It also keeps beneficial colon bacteria in balance, and keepsthe colon in good working order. Soluble fiber also has benefits for those with diabetes: itslows down the absorption of glucose from food, thus reducing the glycemic response tocarbohydrate foods.

Flax also contains naturally occurring calcium, chromium, magnesium, phosphorus, andzinc in beneficial amounts. Approximately 57% of the fat in the flaxseed in B-Flax-D areALA (µ-linolenic acid); research has shown that ALA helps stabilize the electric patterns inthe heart, which can prevent arrhythmias.

Regular use of B-Flax-D will ensure that a person gets a sufficient amount of Vitamin B12,which is important for healthy cell production, such as red blood cells, which contain thehemoglobin responsible for transporting oxygen throughout the body; B12 deficiency hasbeen linked to anemia. Vitamin B12 also aids in cell formation and cellular longevity.

A single serving of B-Flax-D contains 990 mcg of the methylcobalamin form of B12,which has been found to be cancer-protective in animal studies. It has also been linked tothe production of acetylcholine, a neurotransmitter that assists memory and learning.

Sunshine is the best source of Vitamin D, a pro-hormone that is essential for strong bonesand a healthy body. However, getting adequate levels of UV light from sunshine to producethe proper level of Vitamin D in the body is not always possible, making supplementationwith a product like B-Flax-D a wise choice.

The main action of Vitamin D is to regulate the absorption of calcium in the smallintestine. Optimal levels of Vitamin D (40-100 ng/mL) can increase calcium absorption by65% (compared to a low “normal” level).

What do thyroid disorders and Fibromyalgiahave in common? Quite a bit actually.According to Dr. John Lowe, DC, author ofThe Metabolic Treatment of Fibromyalgia, anddirector of the Fibromyalgia ResearchFoundation, inadequate thyroid hormoneregulation is one of the root causes ofFibromyalgia, along with nutritionaldeficiencies, adrenal exhaustion, environmentalpollutants, and poor physical conditioning.

In a recent open-access review1 Dr. Lowecites evidence connecting thyroid conditionsand Fibromyalgia:

• studies of thyroid tests of Fibromyalgiapatients,

• 40 objectively verified symptoms thathave been seen both in hypothyroidismor peripheral resistance to thyroidhormone in Fibromyalgia, and

• successful clinical trials using thyroidhormone replacement to treat Fibromyalgia.

The evidence points to thyroid dysfunctionbeing a huge part of what is wrong withFibromyalgia.

To help your thyroid functionproperly, adopt a junk-free,nutritionally dense diet like

The Hallelujah Diet.

This alone may reduce autoimmunereactions against the thyroid. Furtherthyroid support can be obtained by usingiodine in milligram quantities (see moreinformation atwww.hacres.com/diet/articles/Iodine.pdf ).Along with iodine, make sure you getselenium, around 200 mcg per day, toprotect the thyroid from free-radicaldamage. Tyrosine, the amino acid buildingblock for thyroid hormone, can be used as athyroid supportive nutrient as well.

If this isn’t sufficient, replacement thyroidhormone may be helpful in improving yourmetabolism. There is hope and Fibromyalgiaisn’t forever.

1. Lowe JC, Yellin J. Inadequate Thyroid HormoneRegulation as the Main Mechanism of Fibromyalgia: AReview of the Evidence. Thyroid Science.2008;3(6):R1-14.

The Connection Between the Thyroid and Fibromyalgia

Cranberries for HealthThe Wonder BerryIf cranberries were grown in some exotic region you would be sure that they wouldbe very expensive and highly advertised. But that’s no reason to overlook them. Infact, cranberries are a nutritional bargain.

Cranberries are known to be good for urinary tract infections, and that is true, but they arealso full of antioxidants. Of the fruits and berries, everyone thinks that blueberries are king.Well, the cranberry is a cousin of the blueberry and is right up there in antioxidants. In fact, the ORAC value (a measure of the total antioxidant capacity in a food) of cranberries is50% higher than cultivated blueberries1. There aren’t many fruits or even berries that cancompare with the antioxidant strength of cranberries.

Is there a connection between antioxidants and Fibromyalgia? Mitochondrial damageand malfunction is a key cellular aspect of Fibromyalgia (see page 2). Unquenchedfree radicals are one of the main reasons that mitochondria get damaged. As oxygenis “burned” to generate ATP in the mitochondria some “sparks” fly loose as freeelectrons, which damage fats, DNA, and proteins in the cell. Glutathione is the majorantioxidant inside the cells, but dietary antioxidants also play a huge role in protectingthe mitochondria so that it is able to keep on generating energy at peak levels.

If glutathione is depleted because of a lack of dietary antioxidants, less energy isproduced. Less cellular energy can lead to fatigue and increased sensitivity to pain.Dr. Paul Cheney, who coined the term Chronic Fatigue Syndrome (CFS), found thatFibromyalgia and CFS both are characterized by reduced cellular amounts ofglutathione. Lack of antioxidants won’t cause Fibromyalgia by itself, but it willcontribute to symptoms and help set up the stage for worsening of the condition.

So, eat your cranberries and don’t limit them to Thanksgiving Day; they really arewonder berries. And if you prefer them a little sweeter, remember to use naturalsweeteners or stevia and avoid products containing high fructose corn syrup.

“Fifteen years ago I was diagnosed with Fibromyalgia. At the time, they didn’t reallyhave a name for it. They thought it was a psychosomatic problem due to stress. Ittook me the 15 years to get diagnosed.

“During that time, for the first three years, I was completely bedridden, whichcaused me to have depression, anxiety, and panic attacks. I couldn’t go outside thedoor. Being a Christian, I was crying out to God asking Him for help – for ananswer to my problems.

“Then my husband was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I was totally devastated. The doctors told him he would have to have surgery immediately. But we bothprayed and said, “Lord there must be another way”.

“Friends of ours told us about The Hallelujah Diet. Immediately my husband startedon the diet. Now, instead of his PSA going up, it has remained stable. I went on thediet for my husband, because I was concerned about his prostate cancer. But as Istarted doing it for him, I began doing it for myself.

“Through following the diet alone, I noticed changes in my body. The depressionwas gone. I had more energy to do things. I was able to handle stress much better.I have a sense of well-being now. The Fibromyalgia aches are totally gone now.

“I truly believe that God is going to use us to help other people. We thank God forshowing us The Hallelujah Diet.”
