Fact2: Pressure from the Conservativesforced the Labour/Lib Dem Cabinet to adda further question reardin the site of theCentral Librar to the consultation plus anareement to have an independentoverview of the process.

Calderdale Conservatives have promised a new ‘Vision’ for Calderdale which will save

mone for council tax paers and still protect front line services.

So just what are the proposin, how will it wor and what’s in it for the

 taxpaer?

S a is ‘Visi’?

Calral a kirls:• Independent Councils

• Worin toether with a sinle senior manaement team

• Beneting from economies of scale

• Protectin front line services

• keepin Council Tax low

h ill is r?

Ip CcilsCalderdale will remain an independent Council. It will set its own Council Tax rate. It will

mae decisions based upon the needs of residents in the Calderdale area.

wri tr

Much of the wor done in Calderdale and kirlees is the same. Wherever possible the

Councils will share resources, streamlinin the manaement and cuttin costs.

ecis Scal

When ou bu oods and services on a rand scale ou are able to drive costs down. That

is how supermarets are able to sell oods at a lower price than our local corner shop.

With the combined purchasin power of both Calderdale and kirlees we will be able to

deliver services to the local people in a much more cost effective wa.

Prci fr Li SrvicsB sharin resources, streamlinin the manaement and cuttin costs throuh

economies of scale we will be able to direct Council nances into protecting the front line

services upon which people rel.

Ccil tax

For too lon tax paers have been taen for ranted with ever increasin demands for

more mone. The savins will mean lower demands in the future than if we continue on

 the same old path.

On top of this Conservatives have said the will cut the number of councillors. Wh do this

and what are the benets?

Ci Ccillrs

Calderdale has more councillors per head of population than an other council in West

yorshire. That means that ‘democrac’ in Calderdale costs more. We thin that is wron.

We will be looin to cut the number of councillors b a third, once aain savin taxpaers

mone.

“Within all the doom andloom in the econom

C

rai wiar mP (Calder Valle) has welcomed the government’s announcement that the proposed

hih-speed rail route (HS2) linin London to theWest Midlands and the north of Enland will o aheadafter a considerable amount of lobbin.

Addin up to 26,000 more seats per hour for rail

passeners, and slashin journe times b as much as

half, HS2 will help create jobs, rowth and prosperit for

Calderdale and the countr as a whole.

‘This is reat news for Calderdale. This project will support

40,000 jobs in the rst phase alone, provide a boost to

rowth and deal with rowin conestion on our railwas. Iam certain that this stries the riht balance between the

reasonable concerns of people livin on or near the line

and the need to eep Britain movin,’ said Crai.

Scrar Sa r traspr, Jsi gri,

a:

‘HS2 will lin some of our reatest cities – and hihspeed trains will connect with our existin railwa lines to

provide seamless journes to destinations far beond it.

This is a trul British networ that will serve far more than

the cities directl on the line.

‘More than a centur ao the Victorians built railwas thatcontinue to serve us to this da and just over 50 ears

ao the post-war eneration chose to invest in motorwas,
