Prelude

Opening Song - “You Are My King”

Welcome

Prayer

Song - “Hymns Of Hope, Songs Of Faith”

*Invocation

We meet in the strong name of our God,

We praise you, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen.

*Litany (portions of Psalm 103)

Bless the LORD, O my soul;

All that is within me, bless His holy name.

He pardons all our iniquities;

He heals all our diseases.

He redeems our life from destruction;

He crowns us with lovingkindness and compassion.

As high as the heavens are above the earth;

So great is His lovingkindness toward those who fear Him.

As far as east is from the west;

So far has He removed our transgressions from us.

Bless the LORD, all you people;

In all places where God reigns, bless the LORD, O my soul!

*Prayer of the Day

Thank you, Lord Jesus, King of creation, that you emptied yourself of all power and

glory, humbled yourself in obedience to the Father, and sacrificed your life on the

cross. You took the punishment we deserved. You used your power to rescue us. All

this you have done that we might be your own, live under you in your kingdom of

grace and love, and serve you all the days of our life. Praise to you, King Jesus!

Amen.

First Lesson - 2 Samuel 7:8-16 8 “Now then, tell my servant David, ‘This is what the LORD Almighty says: I took you from

the pasture, from tending the flock, and appointed you ruler over my people Israel. 9 I

have been with you wherever you have gone, and I have cut off all your enemies

from before you. Now I will make your name great, like the names of the greatest men

on earth. 10 And I will provide a place for my people Israel and will plant them so that

they can have a home of their own and no longer be disturbed. Wicked people will

not oppress them anymore, as they did at the beginning 11 and have done ever since

the time I appointed leaders over my people Israel. I will also give you rest from all your

enemies. The LORD declares to you that the LORD himself will establish a house for you: 12 When your days are over and you rest with your ancestors, I will raise up your

offspring to succeed you, your own flesh and blood, and I will establish his kingdom. 13 He is the one who will build a house for my Name, and I will establish the throne of his

kingdom forever. 14 I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I

will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. 15 But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I

removed from before you. 16 Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before

me; your throne will be established forever.’”

Second Lesson - Zephaniah 3:14-20 14 Sing, Daughter Zion; shout aloud, Israel! Be glad and rejoice with all your heart,

Daughter Jerusalem! 15 The LORD has taken away your punishment, he has turned back

your enemy. The LORD, the King of Israel, is with you; never again will you fear any

harm. 16 On that day they will say to Jerusalem, “Do not fear, Zion; do not let your

hands hang limp. 17 The LORD your God is with you, the Mighty Warrior who saves. He

will take great delight in you; in his love he will no longer rebuke you, but will rejoice

over you with singing.” 18 “I will remove from you all who mourn over the loss of your appointed festivals, which

is a burden and reproach for you. 19 At that time I will deal with all who oppressed you.

I will rescue the lame; I will gather the exiles. I will give them praise and honor in every

land where they have suffered shame. 20 At that time I will gather you; at that time I will

bring you home. I will give you honor and praise among all the peoples of the earth

when I restore your fortunes before your very eyes,” says the LORD.

Gospel - Luke 23:33-43 33 When they came to the place called the Skull, they crucified him there, along with

the criminals - one on his right, the other on his left. 34 Jesus said, “Father, forgive them,

for they do not know what they are doing.” And they divided up his clothes by casting

lots. 35 The people stood watching, and the rulers even sneered at him. They said, “He

saved others; let him save himself if he is God’s Messiah, the Chosen One.”

Pastor’s Ponderings . . . 1. If you could be king or queen for a day, what would you do?

2. What are the qualities of a good king, or a good leader?

3. When you pray, do you think of Jesus more as your buddy with power, as

your “genie in a bottle,” as the fountain of grace, or as the Lord of the

Cosmos?

4. What are the possible responses when one stands before a newly

crowned king?

5. Are there portions of your life not under King Jesus’ control?

6. What are the benefits of belonging to Jesus Christ’s kingdom?

7. What does it mean to crown Jesus King of your life?

36 The soldiers also came up and mocked him. They offered him wine vinegar 37 and

said, “If you are the king of the Jews, save yourself.” 38 There was a written notice above him, which read: THIS IS THE KING OF THE JEWS. 39 One of the criminals who hung there hurled insults at him: “Aren’t you the Messiah?

Save yourself and us!” 40 But the other criminal rebuked him. “Don’t you fear God,” he said, “since you are

under the same sentence? 41 We are punished justly, for we are getting what our

deeds deserve. But this man has done nothing wrong.” 42 Then he said, “Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingdom.” 43 Jesus answered him, “Truly I tell you, today you will be with me in paradise.”

and Pastors Pedro and Alma Gomez.

The HOPE Center was built by the Samaritan Foundation and hires women to make the paper jewelry. They receive an income to help feed their families. That is why HOPE stands for Helping Other People Eat.

The Samaritan Foundation is a Canadian non-profit organization that builds houses in the Dominican Republic.
