Hagerman Hagerman Hagerman Hagerman Bird FestivalBird FestivalBird FestivalBird Festival
The 3rd “Hagerman Bird Festival™” will be centered in Hagerman, Idaho, the number one birding area in the state, and will offer guided hikes, boat trips, bird prowls, work-shops and speaker events for families and birders alike.
The Bird Festival will be held over President’s Day Weekend, February 16-19, 2018. The 2018 Bird Festival will be similar in structure to the past two festivals with the addition of Day Tripper activities and daily bus tours to the event. The headquarters and vendor exhibit hall will again be located at the American Legion Hall, 711 East Avenue North, Hagerman.
Keynote speakers have been secured for the Saturday and Sunday evening events. They are Mr. Paul Bannick, an award-winning wildlife photographer with a focus on birds and habitat and, Mr. Nathan Pieplow, Associate Director & Instruc-tor at University of Colorado. He is also an author and specializes in bird sounds.
Registrations are prepaid in advance, with the exception of Same Day Pass which will be limited to exhibits and activities inside the American Legion Hall. Two scheduled activities will be free and open to the public which consist of the narrated Friday night documentary and the Sunday afternoon Live Raptor exhibit and lecture. The registration fees and sponsorship contributions help support these free public programs including the Student Logo Design contest and the programming for year round birding events.
~~~~~~~~~~~ Get ready! The 2018 Bird Festival is gearing up! The Hagerman Valley Founda-tion is seeking to staff the following paid positions: birding workshop leaders, field trip guides, day hosts for the vendor hall, and day hosts for each bus group. Are you interested in catering the two keynote speaker dinners? Contact the Foundation for quotation guidelines. Are you interested in being a Festival Sponsor? We are happy to mail / email a sponsorship package for your consideration. We are also seeking local lodging hosts to house out-of-town speakers and work-shop guides. Please let us know if you can help. It will be an exciting weekend!
NATIONAL PARK SERVICE
With school back in session we're hunkering down at Hagerman Fossil Beds. The park is open Thursday to Monday- in other words we're closed on Tuesdays and Wednesdays. We'll also be closing on Federal Holidays (Labor Day, Columbus Day, Thanksgiving, you know them). The staff is peeling down to the core folks, but that just means a concentration on school groups, travelers passing through, and local festivals. The downtime is needed, we have a few changes to be made in the park visitor center. We are close to installing an augmented reality sandbox, which is a projection system that puts contour lines on to features you design in a special sandbox. This will help our 4th grade visitors meet education standards in learning about maps and geography. We will have lesson plans and props/supplies for teachers using the new lesson plans on maps (created by Geo-scientist-In-Parks Intern Danielle) and a 9th grade science lesson plan on geologic lay-
ers (created by Teacher-Ranger-Teacher Intern Cinzia). We are also gearing up for Fossil Days in October as well as other local events, your help is always welcome! Happy Fall to All.
