HACKATHON A hackathon is an event in which programmers get together as teams and develop software solutions for a given task non-stop for a period of time. Typically, for a 24 hour period. In recent times, hackathons have gained popularity as a form of a programming competition.’

Partnership with Microsoft

The vision of Microsoft is to make coding the third language among the youth. They are aiming to fulll this vision by partnering with AIESEC to organize this hackathon, AIE-SHACK. The apps are developed in this Hackathon to touch a social issue prevailing in the country. Microsoft is intending to implement the great ideas that are going to come through this hackathon.

HACKANIX is not just another hackathon, it is THE hackathon which is organized by AIESEC Colombo South. AIESEC has partnered with Microsoft in order to redene what a hackathon is. With a proven track record in producing youth leaders for over 60+ years, AIESEC continues to attract the most energetic, talented and vibrant youth from around the world. We believe blending the core values of such an organization in to a hackathon will result in a hackathon like never before! Here is how the core values of AIESEC can be used in the hackathon to give an enhance experience for the competitors:• Striving for excellence: We aim to deliver the highest quality performance in everything we do. The teams are selected so that they include youngsters who are excellent in program-ming, designing, developing, engineering and also marketing. These people will innovate and create the most excellent apps that would help make the world a better place.

• Demonstrating integrity: The issue for what the apps have to be built up, is given on the day of the hackathon. The participants have to brainstorm and create a working prototype within 24 hours. The competitors would start by developing a vision to address the issue they are given and would build their app in such a way that it stays true to their vision.

• Activating leadership: By requiring the teams to have at least one school student we hope to provide an invaluable insight in to software development for the students who are keen on a career in IT. This also gives the rest of the team the responsibility of ensuring the competition is a positive learning experience for the students. By requiring the teams to have at least one girl, we hope to en-courage the female students to take a more proactive approach in the IT eld.

• Acting sustainably: The task for the competition focuses on using technology to solve a real issue prevalent in Sri Lanka. The nature of the problem will require them to think through it very care-fully and come up with a sustainable solution.

• Living diversity: Unlike in traditional competitions, we will have small events and activities planned throughout the competition time which will require the teams to interact, not compete. And since we are expecting the participation of teams from all over country, this will be a good op-portunity for the participants to be exposed to a diverse set of people.

• Enjoying participation: In AIESEC, we enjoy everything we do. This concept will be introduced to the participants through a set of carefully planned activities.
