HACC Meme Project

description

This was a class project where I discussed the cultural significance of memes and created one about my school.

Transcript of HACC Meme Project

From my Facebook page Epic Nerd Adventures

This meme is referencing the well known

line in Star Wars: A New Hope where Obi

Wan Kenobi uses Jedi Mind Tricks to tell

two Storm Troopers C-3P0 and R2D2 are

not the droids he is looking for.

By the Storm Trooper’s confused body

language and the suspect line up this is

inferred with no dialogue what –so-ever.

What makes this meme funny and

special are the references to other

robots in film.

Disney Pixar’s WALL E, a Daleck from

Doctor Who, and Bender from Futurama

These characters connect other cult

classic or popular characters that don’t

belong in the Star Wars Universe.

The purpose of the meme is to produce

nostalgia about the Star Wars series and

finding humor other nerdy characters

you are familiar with juxtaposed with Star

Wars in the modern context of a police

line up.

Even if you are not familiar with all the

other characters the Star Wars reference

is the main goal and clearly evident.

I thought the meme was hilarious. The

joke was easily recognizable and that is

important for a meme.

I have watched all of the films and TV

shows associated with this meme so it

was a perfect find for me.

I run a “nerd celebrating” Facebook

page so it got posted as soon as I found

it.

Social media is how the majority of us not

only interact with the world but also our

family and close friends; and memes

make up a huge chunk of the messages

we come across and send.

This means that memes matter. Memes

are the internet’s answer for colloquial

jokes and satirical commentaries on life.

Memes help push thoughts, movements,

social commentary, humor, etc. out into

cyberspace.

They go viral and the world can see

what other people are dealing with or

laughing about. This is how culture is

shared in the information age, by little

pictures that get passed from screen to

screen.

This sharing of culture is how you can get

people to think a little more globally.

If a woman sees a picture of a young

African boy with no hands and the

caption says he lost them in the

diamond mines, maybe she’ll think twice

about the diamond ring she thought she

wanted someday.

This is the new culture exchange.
