PP M : Parts per million
Percentage in volume.1 ppm is equal to
1m/m in 1 Km or 1 inch in 1.6 miles
1gallon in 1000 000 gallons 1$ in 1000 000 $

H2S Physical & Chemical properties:
Ex tremely to x ic. Colorless. Heavier than air specific gravity: 1 .189 Offensive odor (rotten eggs). Odor Threshold value: 0.02 8 mg/m3 (0.002 ppm).
Vapor pressure 20AT M at 260C Produces Sulfur Dio x ide (SO 2 ) when burning. Soluble. Causes corrosion.

Use detector not your nose
M ake sure detectors are working set at 1 0 & 20ppm
Locate them where you can see the visual warning.
Adjust sound level to surrounding noise

General Corrosion Corrosion that appears all over the e x posed area of metal.
Pitting Corrosion
WhenF
e is scratched / removed metal become anodic tosurrounding film covered metal.
Stress Corrosion Cracking Stress corrosion cracking occurs in places where stress is
imposed to the material & around welds where inadequate heat
control has created internal stress, the total stress may ex
ceedthe yield strength of the material.
Hydrogen E mbrittlement Causes spontaneous brittle fracture of steel when e x posed to
water & H 2 S weakening them at 15 % of their yield strength.
