Entity Profile (Please describe the organisation activities relevant with the topic selected)

ASSAM activities cover several fields to support the sustainable and competitive growth of the agro-food enterprises: energy efficiency promotion, forestry, biodiversity, truffle/olive/fruit farming and production, traceability system. The Agency offers a range of services from training paths to update/create competences on traditional (olive production, truffles production, fruit farming) and innovative sectors (e.g social agriculture, animal welfare…) to agriculture weather forecasts for farmers, laboratories analysis, traceability system, quality certification, plant disease control towards producers and consumers. Thanks to the technical competences and the growing experience in managing projects (LIFE+, INTERREGIVC, IPA CBC), ASSAM built up a transnational network of operational and institutional partners to design and implement EU projects in the agro-food sector, facing, in the meantime, the main EU challenges. Climate changes, energy efficiency, training and competences updating, innovation are some of the EU challenges which the agro-food sector should tackles to improve its efficiency and competitiveness. In this framework, ASSAM plays a complementary and operational role to concretely achieve the regional and EU programmes’ goals.

Entity Profile (Please describe the organisation activities relevant with the topic selected)

We already protect biodiversity of our landscape: we grow our raw materials

on particularly fertile and quality soils, whose conformation is naturally

suitable for the organic cultivation, avoiding soil degradation.

Our activity is strictly related to our region and all our products are made of

local raw materials and we work with a short distribution chain, to enanche

territory.

Our products are organic and safe, we avoid using any herbicide or other

harmful to health substances. We're going to implement the reuse of

agricultural waste and the enrichment of the soil with the self-produced

organic substance, according to the principles of circular economy.

We are always looking for new possibilities of innovation for the respect of

the environment. For example in the project for our new plant we're going to

produce solar energy and re-use it in the production process, avoiding

pollution and waste of energy.

So we desire being involved in a project for the defense of biodiversity

making available all our activities and know how.

Entity Profile (Please describe the organisation activities relevant with the topic selected)

Researchers of the Smart Materials Group have experiences in functional

material preparation starting from naturally-derived resources (such as

alginate from brown algae, fibroin from Bombyx mori, keratin from wool),

surface modification (hydrophobic, oleophilic, oleophobic functionalization of

papers, textiles, foams, and metals), advance nanotechnological devices for

water purification, wearable electronics and wound healing studies. Focuses

of the research work are the chemical and structural control of the developed

polymeric-based, composite materials, in order to achieve the best

performances for a specific application. Various techniques are used to

fabricate functional materials, such as electrospinning, microfabrication,

spray drying, casting, spin coating, emulsion, probe type sonication (on a

laboratory level), and via extrusion, hot press, 3D printing, injection molding

(on a more scaled-up level). The obtained materials can be characterized in

terms of mechanical properties (tensile stress, compression test, adhesion –

Instron 3365), thermal proprieties (TGA - Q500 from TA Instruments, DSC),

morphology (SEM- JEOL JSM-6490LA, TEM, AFM- Park System), contact

angle, water vapor adsorption, oxygen permeability, and liquid permeability
