C13 Engine with ACERT™ TechnologyBuilt for power, reliability, economy and low emissions.

Performance. The 345D L, equippedwith the C13 with ACERT™Technology provides 18% more powercompared to the 345C L. The buildingblocks of ACERT Technology are fueldelivery, air management, andelectronic control – providing betterfuel economy and reduced wear.

Fuel Consumption. The ADEM™ A4electronic control module manages fueldelivery to get the best performance perliter or gallon of fuel used. The enginemanagement system provides flexiblefuel mapping, allowing the engine torespond quickly to varying applicationneeds. It tracks engine and machineconditions while keeping the engineoperating at peak efficiency.

Low Sound and Vibration Levels.The engine mounts are rubber-isolatingmounts matched with the enginepackage to provide optimum sound andvibration reduction. Further noise

reduction has been achieved throughdesign changes to the isolated top cover,oil pan, multiple injection strategy,insulated timing cover and sculptedcrankcase.

Emissions. The 345D equipped with theCaterpillar C13 engine can meet EUStage IIIA or EU Stage II emissionsrequirements.

Fuel System. The Cat® C13 featureselectronic controls that govern themechanically actuated unit fuelinjection (MEUI) system. MEUIprovides the high-pressure required tohelp reduce particulate emissions anddeliver better fuel economy throughfiner fuel atomization and morecomplete combustion.

Cooling System. The 345D L layoutcompletely separates the cooling systemfrom the engine compartment. Thecooling fan is hydraulically driven withvariable speed control based on the

ambient temperature, coolanttemperature, and hydraulic oiltemperature. This unique feature assistsin the management of engine power andimproves noise efficiency whileproviding optimized cooling.

Air Cleaner. The radial seal air filterfeatures a double-layered filter core formore efficient filtration and is located in a compartment behind the cab. A warning is displayed on the monitorwhen dust accumulates above a presetlevel.

Turbocharger. The Cat C13 engine usesa wastegate turbocharger for improvedperformance.• The wastegate valve controls

excessive engine boost pressure byallowing exhaust to bypass theexhaust-side turbine.

• The wastegate also reduces turbinewear in high RPM, low loadconditions and optimizes air and fueldelivery for peak engine performance.

• The turbocharger increases thedensity of the air, enabling the engineto produce more power with feweffects from altitude.

Power Management Modes.The Power Modes are selected from themonitor menu. They allow selectingoptimal machine performances for eachtype of application.• High Power Mode is recommended

for applications where highproductivity is essential or for harddigging applications.

• Power Management Mode is forapplications requiring similarperformance as 345C L, but withbetter fuel efficiency.

• Economy Mode is for applicationswhere fuel economy is a priority overproductivity.

The Power Management Mode andEconomy Mode performances areachieved through finely tuned hydraulichorsepower and engine RPMmanagement.

SmartBoom™Reduces stress and vibrations transmitted to the machine.

Rock Scraping. Scraping rock andfinishing work is easy and fast.SmartBoom™ simplifies the task byallowing the operator to fullyconcentrate on stick and bucketmanipulation, while the boom is free tomove up and down without usingimplement pump flow.

Hammer Work. SmartBoom is operator-friendly and increases productivity inhammering applications. The front partsautomatically follow the hammer whilepenetrating the rock. Blank shots orexcessive force on the hammer areavoided resulting in longer life for thehammer and the machine. Similaradvantages are applicable when usingvibratory plates.

Truck Loading. When using SmartBoom,loading trucks from a bench is moreproductive and more fuel efficient as thereturn cycle is reduced while the boomdown function does not requireimplement pump flow.

HydraulicsCat hydraulics deliver power and precise control to keep material moving.

Pilot System. The pilot pump isindependent from the main pumps andcontrols the front linkage, swing andtravel operations. The pilot controlvalve operation is proportional tocontrol lever movement, deliveringoutstanding controllability.

Component Layout. The componentlocation and hydraulic system designprovide the highest level of systemefficiency. The main pumps, controlvalve and hydraulic tank are located asclose to each other as possible. Thisdesign makes it possible to use shortertubes and lines between components,reducing friction losses and pressuredrops.

Heavy Lift Standard. The operator canselect the heavy lift mode at the push ofa button to boost lifting capability andprovide improved controllability ofheavy loads.

Hydraulic Cross-Sensing System. Thehydraulic cross sensing system utilizeseach of two hydraulic pumps to 100percent of engine power under alloperating conditions. This improvesproductivity with faster implementspeeds and quicker, stronger pivotturns.

Boom and Stick Regeneration Circuits.A hydraulically operated stickregeneration circuit saves energy andimproves multi-function performanceduring the stick-in operation. New onthe 345D L, the boom regenerationcircuit is operated electrically, managedby the machine ECM. The systemimproves cycle times and fuelefficiency, increasing your productivityand reducing operating costs.

Boom and Swing Priority. Thehydraulic system on the 345D Lprovides automatic priority function forboom-up and swing operationseliminating the need for work modebuttons. When the boom or swing leveris activated, the system automaticallyassigns priority based on operatordemand.

Hydraulic Cylinder Snubbers. Snubbersare located at the rod-end of the boomcylinders and both ends of the stickcylinders to cushion shocks whilereducing sound levels and extendingcomponent life.

Auxiliary Hydraulic Valve. Ahydraulically controlled auxiliary valveis standard on the 345D L. Controlcircuits are available as attachments,allowing operation of high and mediumpressure tools such as shears, grapples,hammers, pulverizers, multi-processorsand vibratory plate compactors.

Cab Design. The workstation isspacious, quiet and comfortable,assuring high productivity during a longwork day. The air conditioner andattachment switches are convenientlylocated on the right-hand wall, and thekey switch and throttle dial are on theright-hand console. The monitor is easyto see with excellent visibility.

Seat. A high-back, mechanicallysuspension seat and a heated, air-suspended seat are available on the345D L. They allow a variety ofadjustments to suit the operator's sizeand weight and provides a comfortableworking environment. Wide adjustablearmrests and a retractable seatbelt arealso included.

Skylight. An enlarged skylight withsunshade provides excellent visibility and good ventilation.

Hydraulic Activation Control Lever. Foradded safety, this lever must be in theoperate position to activate the machinecontrol functions.

Climate Control. Positive filteredventilation with a pressurized cabcomes standard on the 345D L. Freshair or re-circulated air can be selectedwith a switch on the left console.

Windows. All glass is affixed directlyto the cab, eliminating window framesand providing excellent visibility. Theupper front windshield opens, closesand stores on the roof above theoperator with a one-touch action releasesystem.

Wipers. Pillar-mounted wipers increasethe operator’s viewing area and offercontinuous and intermittent modes.

Monitor. The compact, full colorgraphical monitor, displays machinemaintenance, diagnostic and prognosticinformation, in twenty-seven differentlanguages. The monitor angle can beadjusted to minimize sun glare.

Cab Exterior. The exterior design usesthick steel tubing along the bottomperimeter of the cab, improving theresistance of fatigue and vibration. Thisdesign allows the FOGS to be bolteddirectly to the cab, at the factory or asan attachment later, enabling themachine to meet specifications and jobsite requirements.

Cab Mounts. The cab shell is attachedto the frame with viscous rubber cabmounts, which dampen vibrations andsound levels while enhancing operatorcomfort.

Travel Controls. The 345D L uses pilotoperated control levers, positioned sothe operator can operate with arms onthe armrests. The vertical stroke islonger than the horizontal stroke,reducing operator fatigue. The controllever grips are shaped to fit into theoperator’s hands. The horn switch andone-touch low idle switch arepositioned on the left and right grip.

Operator StationDesigned for simple, easy operation, the 345D L allows the operator to focus on production.

Electronic Control SystemManages the engine and hydraulics for maximum performance.

Monitor Display Screen. The monitor is a full color 400 x 234 pixels LiquidCrystal Display (LCD) graphic display.The Master Caution Lamp blinks ONand OFF when one of these criticalconditions occur:• Engine oil pressure low• Coolant temperature high• Hydraulic oil temperature highUnder the normal conditions or thedefault condition, the monitor displayscreen is divided into four areas: clockand throttle dial area, gauge area, eventdisplay area and multi-informationdisplay area.

Power Management Modes. The power modes – Economy, PowerManagement, High Power – areselected from the monitor menu. Theselection of individual power modesallows a user to match machineperformance to applicationrequirements, enabling the operator toselect a mode for optimal performancewith lower fuel consumption.

Fuel Consumption. The 345D Lprovides instant fuel consumption onthe monitor.

Clock and Throttle Dial Area. Theclock, throttle dial position and greengas-station icon are displayed in thisarea.

Gauge Area. Three analog gauges, fuellevel, hydraulic oil temperature andcoolant temperature, are displayed in this area.

Event Display Area. Machineinformation is displayed in this areawith the icon and language.

Multi-information Display Area. Thisarea is reserved for displayinginformation that is convenient for theoperator. The "CAT" logo is displayedwhen no information is available to bedisplayed.

Console. The consoles feature a simple,functional design to reduce operatorfatigue, ease of switch operation andexcellent visibility. Both consoles haveattached armrests with heightadjustments.

Standard Cab Equipment. To enhanceoperator comfort and productivity, thecab includes a lighter, drink holder,coat hook, service meter, literatureholder, magazine rack and storagecompartment.

Machine Security. An optionalMachine Security System is availablefrom the factory. This system controlswhen the machine can be operated andutilizes specific keys to preventunauthorized machine use, a significanttheft deterrent.

Product Link. Equipment monitoringwith access to world-class dealerservice. Product Link uses wireless andsatellite technology to gather andtransmit essential information, related to machine usage, maintenanceand location. This information is easilyaccessible through a secure, web-basedapplication, Equipment Manager.

Depending on your level ofsubscription, Product Link will:• Report current equipment parameters

(SMU, location, fault codes, etc.)• Track all elements of machine

maintenance and keep machinehistory

• Predict when a service is needed• Help you schedule maintenance and

order parts more efficiently• Alert you to potential and immediate

problems

UndercarriageDurable undercarriage absorbs stresses and provides excellent stability.

Undercarriage Options. The 345D Lcomes standard with a grease lubricatedtrack called GLT4. The track links areassembled and sealed with grease todecrease internal bushing wear, reducetravel noise, and lower operating costsby extending service life. Track withPositive Pin Retention 2 (PPR2) andCast Idlers are available as attachmentson the 345D L.

The PPR2 prevents loosening of thetrack pin from the track link and the CastIdler is designed for extended life. Bothoptions are ideal for extreme applicationssuch as working on blasted rock or thosethat require a large amount of travel.

Travel Motors. Two-speed axial pistonhydraulic motors provide the 345D Ldrive power and speed selection. Whenthe high-speed position is selected, themachine automatically changes betweencomputer-controlled high and low speedsdepending on drawbar-pull requirements.

Straight-line Travel Circuit. The straight-line travel circuit is incorporated into thehydraulic system, which maintains low-speed, straight-line travel, even whenoperating the front linkage.

Final Drive. The final drives are a three-stage planetary reduction. This designresults in a complete drive/brake unit thatis compact and delivers excellentperformance and reliability.

Track Guards. The idler guard and bolt-on center guard are standard equipment.They help maintain track alignmentwhile traveling or working on slopes. For applications that require additionaltrack protection or alignment, optionalfull length guards are available.

Booms, Sticks and LinkageDesigned for maximum flexibility to keep productivity and efficiency high on all jobs.

Front Linkage Attachments. Select theright combination of front linkage withyour Cat dealer to ensure highproductivity from the very start of yourjob. Two types of booms and four sticksare available, offering a range ofconfigurations suitable for a widevariety of applications and offer a largecombination of reach and digging forcesfor optimum versatility. All booms andsticks undergo a stress relieving processfor greater durability.

Boom Construction. The 345D L boomshave large cross-sections and internalbaffle plates to provide long life anddurability. Castings and forgings areused in critical high-load areas such asthe boom-foot and boom cylinderconnection.

Heavy Duty Reach Boom.The 6900 mmHD Reach boom is designed to balancereach, digging force and bucketcapacity. The HD Reach Boom is idealfor a wide range of applications.

Mass Excavation Boom. The 6550 mmMass boom is designed to providemaximum digging forces, bucketcapacity and truck loading productivity.The Mass boom comes with two stickoptions for further job site versatility.

Stick Construction. The 345D L sticksare made of high-tensile strength steel,using a large box section design,interior baffle plates and an additionalbottom guard to protect against damage.The Quarry stick providesreinforcement bars on the stick.

Mass Sticks. Two Mass Quarry sticks are available for higher digging forcesand increased bucket capacity. Masssticks use UB-family bucket linkageand buckets.• M2.5UB. The 2500 mm stick is

intended for mass excavationapplications with very large bucketswith high force requirements.

• M3.0UB. The 3000 mm stick providesexcellent digging envelope with largebucket capacity and high force levels.

Reach Sticks. Two lengths of reachsticks are available to suite a variety ofapplications. Reach sticks use the TB-family bucket linkage and buckets.• R2.9TB. The 2900 mm stick has a

good digging envelope and handleslarge bucket sizes.

• R3.35TB. The 3350 mm stick offersthe most versatility and is suited to alltypes of applications and bucketcapacities.

Power Link. The 345D L power linkimproves durability, increases machine-lifting capability in key liftingpositions, and is easier to use comparedto the previous lift bar designs.

Linkage Pins. All pins used in frontlinkages have thick chrome plating,giving them high wear and corrosionresistance. The large diameter pinssmoothly distribute the shear andbending loads to help ensure long pin,boom and stick life.

Applications and Systems MatchThe 345D L is designed for matched performance with Cat Articulated Trucks.

Wide Range of Front End Attachments.The ability to select different front-endattachments provides adaptability for awide range of job conditions in a varietyof applications such as construction,mining, or quarry. Depending on thefront-end configuration, and materialdensity, the 345D L can be matchedwith the 730 to 740 articulated trucks.Additionally, systems match offersversatility in job set-up whether toploading or same level truck loading.

Optimum Pass Match Design. Five tosix passes under two minutes, matchedto the Cat 735, gives you maximumsystem production at the lowest cost perton of material moved.

StructuresThe 345D L structural components are the backbone of the machine’s durability.

Carbody. The carbody utilizes acolumnless design that allows the swingbearing to be directly mounted on thetop plate for excellent rigidity andstrength.

The advanced carbody design stands up to the toughest applications.• Modified H-shaped, box-section

carbody provides excellent resistanceto torsional bending.

• Robot-welded track roller frames withfabricated U-section design.

• Robot welding ensures consistent,high-quality welds throughout themanufacturing process.

Upper Frame. The rugged main frame isdesigned for maximum durability. Robotwelding is used for consistent, high-quality welds. The main channels are boxsections connected by a large diametertube in the boom foot area to improverigidity and strength. The outer frameutilizes curved side rails for rigidityagainst bending and torsional loads.

Track Roller Frame. Uses a press-formed, pentagonal section for the trackframe that is robot-welded for weldconsistency and quality. The trackframe has been designed so that the topof the track frame has a steep angle tohelp prevent accumulation of mud anddebris.

Quick Couplers. Caterpillar quickcouplers enable the operator to simplyrelease one work tool and pick upanother. Your hydraulic excavatorbecomes highly versatile. The dedicatedCW-Series quick coupler enables aquick tool exchange while maintainingtop machine performance. A liftinghook is added for maximum liftcapacity.

Variety of work tools. Choose from avariety of work tools such as hammers,crushers, pulverizers, shears, multi-processors and grapples. Ask your Catdealer for information on attachments orspecial configurations.

4 Heavy Duty Rock (HDR). Foraggressive bucket digging andloading in highly abrasiveapplications such as granite andbasalt. Features V-spade cutting edgeand extreme wear package.

Differences from rock buckets: • Highest durability due to extreme

wear package;• Side wear plates are thicker and

extend further up to the bucket;• Inside wear package (liner) made of

high strength, 500 Brinell, wearresistant steel alloy;

• Standard equipped with sidebarprotectors and edge segments toextend bucket lifetime.

Lights. Thirty-five Watt HID lights(optional) can replace the standard highbeam 65 Watt Halogen lights. Thepowerful HID lights are almost twotimes brighter and 50 percent moreefficient, improving night timevisibility and low light conditions.

Extended Service Intervals. Extendedservice and maintenance intervalsincrease machine availability. Themaintenance intervals for engine oil,engine oil filter and water separator forfuel line have been extended to 500hours, hydraulic oil to 2000 hours fornormal applications with S•O•SSM

analysis monitoring.

Capsule Filter. The hydraulic returnfilters are located in the hydraulic tank.The filter elements are removablewithout spilling hydraulic oil.

Pilot Hydraulic System Filter. The pilothydraulic system filter keeps contaminants from the pilot system andis located in the pump compartment.

Radial Seal Main Air Cleaner. The radialseal main air cleaner with pre-cleanerhas a double-layered filter element formore efficient filtration. No tools arerequired to change the element.
