B8 H WEDNESDAY , FEBRUARY 1, 2012 WWW.KY-NEWS.COM by Trent Taylor contributing writer With a game like this sometimes you don’t know where to start. Should I start with the impressive free throws percentage, the great way the bench stepped up, or with the immensely large foul count? Let’s just start at the beginning. The Bombers started out with an impressive first half of scoring at 27points. Jesse Dunigan stepped up early, and even got himself a 3 point bucket. Other scorers in the first half were Chris Davis who had 12 points, Clay Chandler with 9 points, Zack Chaykowsky getting a 3 point bucket, and Joey Bom- marito with 2 points. This gave the bombers a 2 point lead going into the second half. Jake Williams for the Eagles led with 8 points in the first half. Going into the 2nd half with a 2 point lead should help us get off to a great start right? Well you would be wrong. For whatever reason there was the Bombers did not show up in the 3rd quar- ter. We only scored 4 points in the entire 8 minutes of the third quarter. The Eagles scored 11 giving them the 34 to 31 lead. Finally we woke up and realized it’s time to play. We came back to tie the game and go into overtime for the first time with a game at 42 points apiece. Being in the pep band going into overtime is a good thing, especially when the opposing team is coming right at the goal where the band is at. We can whoop and holler while they try and shoot free throws, we just can’t play our instruments. So maybe it was just anxiety, or maybe the band had some- thing to do with it, but they only shot 50% from the line during both overtime quar- ters. Ballard, on the other hand, shot 89% from the line in both overtime quarters. Overall Ballard’s win came from the free throw line. When you have 15 fouls committed against a team they usually lose or win the game because of this. This time we won. Ballard shot an impressive 90% from the free throw line in this game. An- other reason we won is be- cause of their percentage from the line. They shot an average 65%. That will defin- ably win a game for some- one.
