NOTICE OF MOTION

Ms Cotsis says-

Mr PRESIDENT:

I give notice that on the next sitting day I will move:

1. That this House notes that:

(a) the National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) ·was introduced by the former Federal Labor Government to provide people with disability with more choice and certainty regarding the disability supports they receive,

(b) the New South Wales trial site for the NDIS commenced in the Hunter region in 2013,

(c) the NDIS expanded to the Blue Mountains-Nepean district in 2015, and commenced operation across half the State on 1 July 2016, with the full scheme to be established in New South Wales by 30 June 2018, and

(d) when fully operational, the NDIS will provide individualised funding packages to approximately 140,000 people with disability in New South Wales, an increase of 50,000 people compared to the number of people who currently receive disability supports.

2. That this House notes the risks that may arise in the provision of disability services as a consequence of low pay, poor conditions and high rates of casualization in the workforce.

3. That this House affirms its support for the National Disability Insurance Scheme, and calls on the Government to work with the Commonwealth Government, unions and disability support providers to ensure that the pay and conditions of disability support workers reflect the importance of their work and tlle skill and care with which they provide services.

(a) in June 2016, Gunnedah Shire Council launched -its new lifestyle magazine, Yonder,

(b) the free magazine focuses on Gunnedah and surrounds and is a high quality publication which features local activities - from exploring, dining, local businesses m1:d accorinnodation to retailers and services,

_(c) Yonder is -aimed at visitors, new residents and locals and will be produced every six months, with the aim to feature a diverse variety of stories, community groups, businesses and people from the region, and

(d) Yonder will be stocked in a wide range of local businesses and at all of the Gunnedah Shire Council offices including the Visitor Information Centre.

2. That this House acknowledges the importance of publications like Yonder which help to promote and celebrate regional areas ofNew South Wales.

3. That this House congratulates all who are involved with the production of Yonder magazine including Eliza Gallen, Lisa Davis, Bridie George and Chris Frend.

BALLINA AGED CARE SYMPOSIUM _

I give notice that on the next sitting day I will move:

1. That this house notes that:

a) The Northern NSW Local Health District provided an insight into life for dementia sufferers at an annual aged care symposium for 160 carers, consumers, community members and health care workers in Ballina over two days in July 2016.

b) A walk-through giant inflatable brain, called the Brainarium, was borrowed from the Western Sydney local Health District and was on show at the symposium. This is the first time the Brainarium has been displayed in a regional area.

c) Once inside, participants could see and feel sections and veins within the brain to better understand how strokes and other debilitating problems ·are caused. This tactile exper;ence also helped carers of p~ople with dementia or mental illness better understand the physical aspects of mental health conditions.

d) Dementia is the second leading cause of death behind heart disease in Australia.

2. That this house congratulates the Northern NSW Local Health District on their initiative to educate the community on these issues in such an innovative way.

CENOTAPH IN BYRON BAY

I give notice that on the next sitting day I will move:

1. That this House notes that:

a) The re-dedication ceremony for the re-furbished Cenotaph in Byron Bay was held on Thursday 4 August 2016.

b) The ceremony was organised by the Byron Bay RSl Sub-Branch and presided over by Rob Asquith, Chairman of the Sub-Branch.

c) The Re-dedicating Officer was retired Major Graeme Davis OAM CSM, a Vietnam and long Tan veteran.

d) Funds for the refurbishment were raised from local Service Organisations, a OVA Grant and donatio.ns received from the community.

e) The original gate was de~icated by His Excellency Governor General lord Forster PC KCMG on 23rd November 1921.

f) This important local memorial featuring three giant natural basalt columns and a black marble wall served as a dramatic backdrop for this year's Anzac Day Dawn Service which attracted a crowd in excess of 400 people.

2. That this House congratulates the Byron Bay RSl sub-branch and all involved in the rededication and refurbishment.ofthe magnificent memorial.
