The Apple Tree Principle

Dear Friends,

Many economists are predicting the collapse of the Euro in the coming months. If the finan-cial world really does crash as it did on October 25, 1929 there could be hard days ahead. Is this the right time to be stepping out on a huge school project? Five hundred years ago, Martin

“They´re singing again,” Emperor Nero commen-ted as he looked down in irritation on the 100 Christians in the Colosseum, minutes before they were fed to the lions. Nero´s words, spoken byPeter Ustinov in the film Quo Vadis, describe a phe-nomenon found among Christians throughout history – singing to honor Jesus Christ. With voices lifted in song they have endured persecuti-on and celebrated victories. At the Diospi Suyana hospital we too sing three songs each morning.

Hi and Bye – Hope our Friends Come Back!

Nero Would Be Mad Again

... was the title of an almost page-long article about Diospi Suyana in “El Comercio”, Peru´s main newspaper. ● On June 5, Peruvian star

presenter Chema Salcedo inter-viewed Dr. John; the interview was aired throughout Peru. ● Channel 5 also aired an 18-minute report on July 14 that could be seen all across the coun-try.

Moving Ceremony as Roche Hands Over Lab Equipment

Erika Wall invested 14 months of her life in Diospi Suyana, serving in exem-plary manner as a OR and anesthetics nurse. Midwife Lena Ehlebracht brought a fresh wind into the OB-GYN department – her year with Diospi Suyana has gone by way too fast. Miriam Crisanto from Leimen is currently lear-ning Spanish at language school. She is planning to serve as a nurse for three years.

After five and half years of exemplary service in financial management, where she was a pillar of the hospital in the early years, Hannah Böker is lea-

ving. The light in her office often burned until late into the night. In the Diospi Suyana film she says: “I always wanted to serve the poor!” And she fulfilled this dream with great faithfulness.

Oebele de Haan and his wife Debora have given of themselves sacrificially in their two years of service. While Oebele head up the workshop, his wife held

key positions in the dental clinic and operating room.

An unforgettable ceremony ! The General Di-rector of Roche Peru arrived from Lima, accom-panied by another member of staff. The Governor of Curahuasi and Sr. Luis Quintanilla, head of the state´s main newspaper, were also present as a TV camera team from Lima filmed the cele-

pel, where every last place was taken. The go-ahead was given by Roche HQ in Basle for the do-nation of equip-ment and related services worth ap-prox. 100,000 US$.

In August Zondervan Vida Publishers will be laun-ching the story of the Di-ospi Suyana hospital inSouth America and Spain. The title will be: “God is visible – a moving sto-ry of faith in action” and it is available from our of-fice. ● Peter and Sabine Hasselbach from Braunschweig heard about Diospi Suyana on

YouTube and liked the book “Seeing God” so much they have given it as a gift to friends and family a total of 16 times so far (German version - Brunnen Publishers).
