Global Water Partnership Southern Africa (GWP SA) is a regional not-for-profit action network launched in June 2000. It was established in the Southern Africa region in 1996 as a Technical Advisory Committee for SADC on water matters. The birth of GWP SA was facilitated by GWP Global and SADC Secretariat through the then SADC Water Sector Coordinating Unit in recognition of the potential role GWP SA would play in bridging the gap in implementing the regional water programme especially in reaching broader stakeholders beyond Governments. GWP SA is one the thirteen (13) Regional Water Part- nerships of the Global Water Partnership (GWP), a multi-stakeholder platform that brings together compe- tent organisations advocating, facilitating and support- ing change processes for the sustainable management of water resources in 12 countries the SADC Region. These entities typically include national, regional and local Government Institu- tions, Intergovernmental Organizations, international and national Non- governmental Organizations, Academic Institutions and Research Institutions, Companies, service providers in the pub- lic sector, or any such entity which recog- nizes the principles of integrated water resources management endorsed by the Network and is committed to these princi- ples (as outlined in the application to be a Partner). BECOMING A GWPSA PARTNER Becoming a GWP SA Partner is open to any entity- except individuals- involved with or having an impact on water issues, related to the sustainable development, management and use of water resources. Institutions willing to become a partner need be based in the SADC region or working actively and regularly on water issues in the SADC region even if their headquarters are outside the region. All of the Partners of our Network need to be committed to: • Co-ordinating their relevant activities with those of other concerned organizations; • Sharing both information and experience freely with the other Partners; •Giving advice and professional contributions to the Network, the Organization and to other Part-ners, on such conditions as may be agreed free of charge up to a reasonable level and at a mutually agreed charge above that level.
