Gwinnett high school science fair to feature 142 projects
More than 250 Gwinnett County Public Schools (GCPS) students extend an
invitation to the public, as they exhibit their latest science projects at the Gwinnett
Regional Science and Engineering Fair on Friday, February 8, 2008, at the Gwinnett
County Fairgrounds from 5 - 7:30 p.m. The public is invited to attend and learn about
the high levels of scientific inquiry and experimentation occurring in Gwinnett science
classrooms.
This year’s competition features 142 different student-researched projects in the
fields of biochemistry, physics, behavioral sciences and engineering. More than 250
students, representing nine high schools, have worked on projects individually or in
teams.
This year’s participating high schools are:
School Team Individual Total Projects Projects Number of projects Berkmar High 3 4 7 Brookwood High 13 2 15 Collins Hill High 21 25 46 Dacula High 16 2 18 Duluth High 0 3 3 Norcross High 0 6 6 Parkview High 0 5 5 Peachtree Ridge High 6 24 30 South Gwinnett High 18 0 18 Total Projects 148
The science projects will be judged by Georgia professionals and scientists based on
scientific quality, accuracy, creativity, and experimental design.
The projects competing at the county level already have garnered first or second
place at their local school science fairs. The students who earn first place at the county
level will move to the next round of competition-- the Georgia Science and
Engineering Fair-- which will be held April 2-5 at the Athens Classic Center in Athens.
Historically, GCPS is well-represented at this state competition. The top three
county-level projects qualify for competition in the International Science and
Engineering Fair, held May 11-16 in Atlanta.
