GV-NVR System Lite Vs

QNAP VS-2008 Pro

The GV-NVR System Lite is a light-weight and ultra-slim NVR system that can record video files directly to the internal hard drives. We compared GV-NVR System Lite with QNAP’s VS-2008 Pro and summarized the advantages of GV-NVR System Lite as below.

Smooth Live ViewWe compared the live view images of GV-NVR System Lite and VS-2008 Pro when they are connectedto up to 4 channels of 1.3 megapixel IP cameras. Under all codec types, GV-NVR System Lite showssmooth live view when simultaneously connecting to 4 IP channels.

On the other hand, although claiming to support up to 8 channels, VS-2008 Pro starts to dropframes when connecting to multiple megapixel cameras as indicated below. In addition, VS-2008Pro can only support 30 fps at D1 or VGA resolution according to its software specification, which isproblematic as megapixel IP cameras are increasingly becoming the industry-standard.

Recording at Full Frame RateVideos from 4 channels of 1.3 megapixel IP cameras were recorded on GV-NVR System Lite andQNAP VS-2008 Pro to compare the recorded frame rate. We can see that the GV-NVR System Literecorded all 75 frames per second, while VS-2008 Pro was only capable of recording 32-58frames per second at 62 - 88% of the cameras’ maximum frame rate.

The test results of the GV-NVR System Lite were determined using the 4 GV-IP Cameras listed below. The FPS specifications of the 4 cameras add up to 75 frames per second.

To see details on the third-party IP cameras used to obtain the VS-2008 Pro test results, please refer toAppendix A

Effortless File Export and PlaybackAfter the video images are recorded, GV-NVR System Lite’s built-in software enables users to directlysave the videos as avi format. Recorded video clips can then be played back on any computer usingcommon media players. GV-NVR System Lite uses the more popular Windows file system tomake sharing recorded video quick and easy. Since VS-2008 Pro is a Linux-based NVR, usershave to transfer videos to a separate computer through network and install QNAP software toconvert the video files to avi format.

From the diagrams below, we can see that exporting video files from GV-NVR System Lite is fast, convenient and requires no network.

Effortless File Export and Playback

When VS-2008 Pro is not connected to network, users have to remove the HDD from VS-2008 Pro,attach it to a Linux computer, read the video files with the correct file system (EXT3), transfer the files toa Windows system computer and then install QNAP software before the files can be converted to aviformat.

All-In-One SolutionWhile QNAP users can only integrate its network surveillance systems with third-party IP cameras,GeoVision offers an all-in-one solution for network surveillance. The wide variety of GV-IP Camera available not only ensures full compatibility with GV-NVR System Lite, but also significantly reduces troubleshooting time and RMA costs when the need for technical support arises.

AppendixBelow is the list of third-party megapixel IP cameras used in testing VS-2008 Pro and the actualrecorded frame rate of each camera. (Note: The FPS recorded was determined using quad-view.)
