For grades six and nine they will be concentrating on covering pertinent curriculum to be measured on the Provincial Achievement tests. Please note these important dates so that appointments may be arranged around these exams. We know our students will be prepared. Parents can assist by ensuring that students have a good breakfast and adequate sleep on these dates outlined in the attached calendars. For all of our students it is important to keep at the forefront learning and reviewing of concepts presented. It is a busy time of year as extra outdoor events begin and we start to enjoy the outdoors and the anticipated nice weather. Did you know? Badminton for Junior High has begun. Thank-you to Mr. Requa and Mrs. Murray for coaching extra- curricular Badminton teams. We are re-defining our Library space into a student Learning commons. Welcome back everyone! We hope you all had a springtastic break! Our first badminton game

of the season is being held here at Guthrie on April 7, so come on down and cheer on your

Gators! The Guthrie Band will be attending the Arden Centre in St. Albert during the morning

of April 12, as well, we will also be holding our Cookie Day, so make sure to save your

quarters. There will be Hot Lunches every Thursday this month, starting with The Lunch lady

on April 7, Edo Japan on April 14, Dairy Queen on April 21, and Boston Pizza on April 28. If

you plan on ordering hot lunch during April please remember to not pack your child a lunch

for that day. There is also a PD Day on April 15. The Book Fair is back with lots of new titles

and old favorites to purchase, the Fair will run from April 18-20. On April 20 the badminton

team will have their first away game at Morinville. On April 25 our Band and Choir students

will be performing at the Sturgeon Night of Music starting at 7:00pm at the Winspear Centre.

That’s all for April, we look forward to having a fantastic month. Make sure to keep checking

the website for changes and new events that are happening in our school.

Sincerely, School Spirit Committee

Cookie Day

Each cookie day, classes provide cookies (muffins, squares, cupcakes) which are sold to the

whole student body for 25 cents each, the students are able to purchase two items with the

opportunity to purchase more once each class has had a turn. Cookie Day is run by volunteers,

and we are always looking for new and energetic people to come out and help. It is also

supported by our leadership students. Cookies go on sale right after morning announcements

and usually wraps up before first recess at 10:20am.

Guthrie school strives to be a peanut/nut free zone, we ask families who are par ticipating

to please exclude items that contain nuts, if possible please label ingredients that are included

in your yummy selections.

Cookies may come to school the day before or first thing in the

morning of the Cookie Day.

Rabbit Hill & Marmot Ski Trips

The ski trips were both a success. The Rabbit

Hill group was the only school on the hill on

March 17 and the snow was surprisingly great

despite the warm temperatures! Thanks to all

the parents who helped make this trip a

success.

The Marmot kids had two great days in the

mountains. Some of the kids improved their

skills

significantly in

the two days.

Guthrie is using a new online system for ordering Hot Lunch. If you

wish to purchase a hot lunch for your child please visit

www.HealthyHunger.ca to register with Guthrie School. In just

four easy steps you will be able to preorder hot lunch for your

child. Remember that hot lunch orders must be placed 5 days prior

to the scheduled hot lunch date. We are trying to have healthy

choices as well as keep hot lunch prices between approximately

$5.00—$6.00. When a credit card is used online there is a 2%-3%

service charge added for this on the price of the hot lunch. Even

with the service charge we are keeping lunches in the above price

range. We have a hot lunch coordinator and are not requiring more

volunteers to run the hot lunch program. The school is only

providing this as a service and is not fundraising through this. We

hope you are enjoying this program.

Upcoming Hot Lunch Dates:

Lost and Found In an effort to keep the lost and found manageable we will be displaying items monthly. The last week of every month, items will be displayed in the front foyer, and all not claimed items will be donated. Hopefully more items are found rather than buried under a “mountain” of stuff. Thanks for your help in this matter.
