Dog Obedience Classes Set

Communication Day

Educational presentations, working exhibits, and extem-poraneous speaking will be judged on Monday, July 16 during static exhibit judging which is from 1 to 5:30 p.m. More information will be in next month’s newsletter. Educational Presentations—You have the opportunity to give a presentation about something that interests you. You can give a presentation on just about anything! Working Exhibits –These are audience interactive and

demonstrate or teach directly to a small group. The

audience participates in a “hands on” activity and takes

home the item that they made with you.

Extemporaneous speaking—This contest gives you the

opportunity to choose a topic and prepare a speech in

thirty minutes to give to a judge. If you’re good at last

minute preparation, this contest maybe for you!

Poster—Communicate in a visual rather than an oral form.

Choose from one of this year’s themes and get creative.

Start planning now to participate!

Dog obedience classes will begin on Tuesday, May 29, at 7 p.m. at the Extension Office. The first meeting will be an informational night and checking vaccination certificates. Please bring your rabies and distemper certificates to this meeting. NO DOGS at the first meeting. The remainder of the meetings will be held in the small animal arena at the fairgrounds. If you need and did not receive a registration form,

they can be found at the Ex-tension Office of at www.extension.iastate.edu/guthrie/kidsteens.htm. All class times are at 7 p.m.

It soon will be time to Share the Fun during the

Clothing Event on July 12. Share the Fun can be any

entertainment that you would like to do. It can be

dancing, singing, playing the piano (or another in-

strument). It could also be a skit put on by the entire

club or just a few members. Eight minutes is the

maximum time allowed. I would like to challenge

you to participate by offering an ice cream

party, complete with toppings, to the two

clubs who have the largest percentage of

members participate in Share the Fun!

Winning entries will advance to the Iowa

State Fair. Contact the Extension Office if

you have questions.

There will be three horse workshops this summer

that horse project members are

required to attend. (Senior

members are required to at-

tend 2 of the workshops.)

The classes will cover nutrition, grooming, halter

and riding.

The dates are still being worked out, but horse
