QUOTATIONS - We will endeavor to quote prices promptly, either by phone or in writing.All prices are subject to change without notice and deliveries are subject to delays whichare beyond our control. Quotations on materials are subject to prior sale.Specially ordered material is not subject to cancellation without our written consent. Un-less otherwise stated, our quotations are for immediate acceptance. All quotations areF.O.B. our warehouse unless otherwise agreed upon. Shipments from manufacturers areF.O.B. shipping point unless otherwise agreed upon. We reserve the right to correctstenographic errors in quotations or invoices.
TERMS - Manufacturers of different classes of merchandise will govern the cash discountextended to customer. Cash discount is based on 10 days from date of invoice.
SHIPPING - Material ordered from stock is usually shipped the same day as ordered.Orders placed by phone are accepted at the risk of the customer, as shipments which aremade prior to the receipt of confirmation are for the convenience of the customer. Whenexplicit shipping instructions are not given, we shall use our judgment to determine themost satisfactory routing. All merchandise becomes the property of the purchaser upondelivery to the carrier, except Parcel Post shipments. All claims for damage, loss, ordelay must be made in writing to the carrier and notation made upon delivery at the time ofdelivery.
ORDER CANCELLATIONS - Acceptance of cancellations on orders for special goods notnormally carried in stock, will be made on a basis of the terms we receive from themanufacturer.
RETURNED GOODS - Returned goods must be authorized prior to return. In order toexpedite credit being given we must have our invoice number and date. The issuance ofcredit will be subject to normal inspection and customary handling charges. Claims fordamaged material should be made immediately upon receipt of goods. All materials arecarefully inspected before shipment, but in spite of the best care it is sometimes impos-sible to detect all imperfections. Special order items and material cut to customer'sspecifications cannot be returned for credit.
RESPONSIBILITY - "Seller warrants that the product(s) furnished is free from defects inmaterial and workmanship and shall replace, at the delivery point specified herein, anyproduct found to be defective within one year, or at Seller's option refund the price paid forsuch product, plus any transportation charges paid by the buyer to Guntert Sales Div., Inc.Damages are limited to the purchase price plus the above transportation. This constitutesBuyer's sole remedy and in no event shall the Seller be liable for labor, loss of use orprofits, or for any other special, indirect, incidental or consequential damages. WELDABILITY - Can be welded by all standard practice processes. Type and grade ofrod used depends on design, thickness of material, and service requirements.
ELONGATION HARDNESS
WELDABILITY - Plow steel may be welded with proper precautions. With thinsections and a flexible design, gas or arc welding may be used without preheat-ing; but in joints over 1/2" thick preheating is necessary in order to developequivalent strength in the weld, a low alloy filler is recommended. Stress reliev-ing is also a recommendation. The grade of rod to be used will depend onthickness of the section, its design and service requirement.

C1018 is a low-carbon open hearth steel. Since its manganese content is high it pro-duces better steel for carburized parts which require harder and more uniform case.
The mechanical properties are on the high range and has good machining characteristics.

USES:A514 steels are used in general structural applications where its greater strengthpermits reduction in weight by using smaller cross-sectional areas. It is intendedfor welded construction where welding procedures are suitable to maintain theproperties of the plate.
FORMING - "Structural" quality material is readily cold formed, provided sufficientpower is available and allowance is made for greater spring back than with mildsteel.

Warm forming may be done at temperatures below 1100o F without destroying
the mechanical properties or toughness. Hot forming may be done at 1600o-

WELDABILITY - Techniques similar to those used in structural carbon steelsapply, but precautions must be exercised. Hydrogen must be kept out of thewelding operation. Large sections or those under high restraint should be pre-heated to temperatures not exceeding 400
o F.
HEAT TREATING - Stress relieving may be performed, if necessary, by heatingat temperatures up to 1100
o F. If "Structural" quality material is heated over
1100o F, it must be re-heat treated to restore the original strength.

Abrasive resisting steel (AR) is a low cost abrasive resisting steel. It is a me-dium-carbon, high manganese, open hearth product. AR Steel will give two toten times more life than that of mild steel in most applications.

SHEARING AND FLAME CUTTING - A.R. Steel has higher hardness than mildsteel and shearing must be done with care. The shear capacity should be dis-counted about 60% of that established for mild steel. Grade 235 can be flamecut, but at a preheat of 200
o to 300
o F is suggested. The high heat of the cutting
has a tendency to harden the material at point of contact. The edge will be moredifficult to machine than other areas of the steel
PUNCHING - Holes may be punched in thicknesses up to about 3/8". Thecapacity of the punch should be discounted about 60%. Plates about 3/8" andthicker should be drilled.
BENDING AND FORMING - AR steel should be formed hot at 1500o to 1800
oF
and slowly cooled in order not to lose its abrasive resisting qualities. A limitedamount of forming is done cold on material up to 3/8" thick if proper precautionsare taken.
MACHINABILITY - AR due to its high hardness is difficult to machine. But theusual high-speed tools are capable of doing machine work when necessary.
WELDABILITY - AR steel may be welded with proper precautions. Preheating isrecommended, and it is a good practice to stress relieve or normalize afterwelding. To normalize, heat to 1650o F and allow to cool slowly in air. When thewelded part is subjected to severe vibration and stress, normalizing is omitted.Although, normalizing will prevent cracks and give uniform structure and will notreduce the abrasive resisting qualities.

COLD FORMING - The minimum bending radius requirement varies with thehardness levels and thicknesses. However, due to the hardness of WEAR-PLUSit is necessary to allow a more generous bending radius than that of ordinarycarbon steel.
FORMING - Since WEAR-PLUS is given special controlled heat treatment, hotforming should be avoided as this will not allow a fixed hardness level to bemaintained.
GAS CUTTING - Gas cutting can be accomplished in the same way as forordinary steel plate. However, due to the hardness of WEAR-PLUS, it is neces-sary to prevent the "notches" that occur during gas cutting as they may cause thesteel plate to crack. Therefore it is necessary to increase the gas and oxygenpressure and cut at a slower speed, in a range where notches will not occur.When cutting ultra-hard steel plate, which is 3/4" or over in thickness, and if theambient temperature during cutting is lower than 50o F, it is recommended thatyou preheat the steel plate at a temperature not exceeding 400o F and post heatthe steel.

APPLICATIONS - Used where corrosion resistance and good mechanical properties areprimary requirements. These grades are widely accepted in such industries as dairy, beverageand other food products where the highest degree of sanitation and cleanliness is of primeimportance. Parts for handling acetic, nitric and citric acids, organic and inorganic chemicals,dyestuffs, crude and refined oils, etc., are fabricated from this material. Because of its lack ofmagnetism it is highly desirable for instruments. It is also widely used for architectural trim. Type304, as noted above, finds particular use in applications requiring welding.
CORROSION RESISTANCE - Type 304 shows good resistance to corrosion. They arehighly resistant to strong oxidizing acids, such as nitric acid, and resist attack by a wide variety oforganic and inorganic chemicals. Maximum corrosion resistance is obtained in the annealedcondition. Intergranular corrosion may occur when material is heated within or cooled through therange of 800o to 1500o F.
RESISTANCE TO SCALING - Excellent scale resistance at temperatures up to 1600o F incontinuous service. Chromium-nickel grades have a high coefficient of expansion, which shouldbe considered in designing.
MECHANICAL PROPERTIES - Applicable specifications require the following properties ofsheets in the annealed condition:

MACHINABILITY - Type 304 has a machinability rating of approximately 45%, with 1212rated as 100%. Surface cutting speed on automatic screw machines is approximately 75 feet perminute.
WELDABILITY - Easily welded by all the commercial processes except forge or hammerwelding. The resulting weld has good toughness and ductility. Annealing is recommended afterwelding to maintain maximum corrosion resistance.
FORMING - These grades have very good drawing and stamping properties.
FORGING - Forge between 2100o and 2350o F. Do no forge below 1700o F.
ANNEALING - Annealing range is between 1850o and 2050o F. Cool rapidly. Water shouldbe used for heavier sections; air for lighter sections. The stress relieving range is between 400o
and 750o F.

APPLICATIONS - Widely used in the paper, textile and chemical industries, where parts aresubjected to the corrosive effects of salts and reducing acids. Also used in the manufacture ofpharmaceuticals in order to avoid excessive metallic contamination. Because Type 316 possessesthe highest creep and tensile strength at elevated temperatures of any of the more commonly usedstainless steels, it finds extensive use where the combination of high strength and good corrosionresistance at elevated temperatures is required. In aircraft applications, Type 316 is used for partsrequiring good corrosion resistance and low magnetic permiability.
CORROSION RESISTANCE - Type 316 is more resistant to atmospheric and generalcorrosive conditions than any of the other standard stainless steels. It has good resistance to thecorrosive effects of sulphates, phosphates and other salts as well as reducing acids such assulphuric, sulphurous and phosphoric. It is less susceptible to pitting in applications where aceticacid vapors or solutions of chlorides, bromides or iodides are encountered. When heated to withinthe temperature range of 800o to 1500o F, or when slowly cooled through this range, this grade issubject to intergranular corrosion.

ORDER PROCEDUREWhen ordering Expanded Metals, give completestyle specifications to avoid possible error.Include style, standard or flattened, type of metaland sheet dimensions. SWD dimensions arealways given before LWD.
EXAMPLE A: 1/2" #18 carbon steel standard,4 ft. SWD by 8 ft. LWD.
EXAMPLE B: 1/2" 051 aluminum standard,8 ft. SWD by 4 ft. LWD.

Bearing Bar - vertically positioned bars. These bars can range in sizefrom 3/4" x 1/8" to 7" x 1/2" and having a center to center spacing of7/16" to 1-1/16".
Cross Bar - the bars used to secure the position of the bearing bars.These bars have a center to center spacing of 4" standard or 2" throughspecial order.
Span - finished length of grating panels parallel to bearing bars.
Unsupported Span - clear distance between points of support for thegrating.
Width - dimension of the grating panel measured perpendicular to thebearing bars.
Bar grating is a series of metal bars positioned vertically at an equaldistance apart and connected by cross bars to form a rectangularpattern. Normally made of mild steel, it can also be made from a varietyof alloy metals as necessary. The shipped product can optionally beserrated, banded, and/or given various finishes.

Ronald Guntert Sr.1911-1993
History
In 1942, Ronald M. Guntert, Sr.,the founder of our company, formed alimited partnership with HickinbothamBros. and L.R. Zimmerman for thepurpose of fulfilling major World War IIcontracts. This venture was formedwhile Ronald Guntert was working forHickinbotham Bros., Ltd., a highlyregarded steel company in the SanJoaquin Valley. The partnership wasknown as Hickinbotham Bros. Const.Div. who established their shipyard onthe Stockton Channel on Banner Island.
During the war, HickinbothamBros. Const. Div. entered into contractswith the Navy and the ArmyTransportation Corp. for the constructionof floating crane barges, landing crafts,steel tug boats, and 176 ft. Inter-islandsupply vessels. These contracts werecompleted so effectively under amanagement whose main characteristicswere integrity and outstanding ingenuity,that on August 27, 1944, the Army-Navy Production Award (E) was presentedto: "The men and women of Hickinbotham Bros., Construction Div." At thepeak of the war, the partnership employed over 600 people.
Shortly after the war, Ronald Guntert and L.R. Zimmerman acquiredHickinbotham's interest and incorporated as Guntert & Zimmerman Const.Div., Inc. In 1948, Guntert and Zimmerman formed a supply division toaugment their material needs, which was called Guntert & Zimmerman SalesDiv., Inc. L.R. Zimmerman left both companies in 1950. Div., Inc.'s name remained as it was due to the name's recognition inthe industry and its reputation worldwide for innovative work in canal, highwayand airport trimming and paving equipment, as well as its work in ship building,dredging and other specialized construction machinery. The supply division,however changed its name to Guntert Sales Div., Inc. in 1961, and it is morecommonly known today as Guntert Steel.
Both corporations shared the 7 acre waterfront facility on Banner Islandin Stockton until 1984, when the two corporations relocated 26 miles south toRipon, California. This new facility is situated along Highway 99 on 22 acres,of which 13 acres are available for future expansion.
Today, Guntert & Zimmerman continues to engineer and manufacturespecialized construction machinery which they market and sell worldwide,while Guntert Sales Div., Inc., dba Guntert Steel, continues to service centralCalifornia's steel and steel processing needs.
