Wind…free energy source…sustainability…this is a big part of what we do at ACCIONA.

At Gunning Wind Farm we work closely and responsibly with our environment to harness the

best opportunities for clean sustainable energy production. We have completed the annual wind turbine preventative routine service maintenance work and are currently completing a period of scheduled corrective maintenance jobs. No large turbine components had to be replaced at Gunning Wind Farm, testament to the quality of our ACCIONA turbines and the maintenance activities completed by the turbine technicians on site.

Turbine internal lift maintenance occurs on a 6 monthly basis. These 2 person internal turbine lifts are vital for the ongoing access to our turbines. That’s unless you want to climb the 76 metres inside the tower to the nacelle above! These internal turbine lifts attach to the internal ladder and operate up and down the turbine tower.

Along with wind farm turbine work, various other activities have occurred recently:

• Maintenanceworkhasbeencompletedonthe 3 met masts located at Gunning Wind Farm. These wind monitoring masts are a part of the wind farm infrastructure and are used for the reference of wind speed, weather and performance information for the overall wind farm operation. These masts are here for the life of the wind farm and are therefore maintained as an important site asset. This recent work was carried out by specialist contractors and involved structural inspections, maintenance work, servicing and replacement of various measuring instruments located on the masts. This work involves climbing these tall thin towers and is completed by highly trained technicians who are competent at this work.

• Periodicalsiteenvironmentalinspectionshave taken place which involve monitoring weed growth around the base areas of turbines as well as inspecting wind farm roads and other wind farm infrastructure.

Exciting news! Another Gunning Wind Farm Community Benefit Fund milestone occurred recently. This was the start and completion

of the site civil works in preparation for the building of the New South Wales Rural Fire Service Gurrundah Fire Shed site. This project has been identified as the current priority project for the Gunning Wind Farm Community benefit Fund group, with the new site located opposite Bannister Lane on Gurrundah Road. This is an exciting start to a much anticipated project for the local area. Initial site works included levelling of the site for the new fire truck storage shed and construction of a driveway and concrete culvert adjoining Gurrundah Road. We would also like to acknowledge the McCormack family for gifting this land to the NSW Rural Fire Service for the purposes of building the Gurrundah fire shed.

Until next time…keep safe, Craig

Renewable Energy Target (RET) update

After a challenging 18 month period of review, negotiation and uncertainty, a reduced RET target of 33,000GWh by 2020 passed both houses of federal parliament on 23rd June.

Whilst this involves a substantial cut to the original target of41,000GWh, it translates to a requirement for approximately 5000 MW of additional generation capacity by 2020. This agreement should underpin a more stable period for renewable investment through to 2020.

Whilst it has been a long and difficult process, the passing of reviewed RET legislation should translate to a more attractive investment environment for ACCIONA’s wind farm projects that have planning permission but are yet to be fully constructed (Mt Gellibrand, Mortlake and Berrimal Wind Farms) - paving the way for the significant local employment and investment opportunities to come to fruition in those areas.
