PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE
It was wonderful to see our school engaging in a number of activities
organised by Riverfest over the weekend. Schools are an integral part of their
community and interaction between the two is vital when fostering civics and
citizenship within our students. On Friday the school choir attended the official
opening of Riverfest and sang the National Anthem and two other songs, on
Sunday morning Damien Moulds and Dempsey Elphick attended the Poets
Breakfast and had the opportunity to recite their poems about the
Murrumbidgee River and on Sunday midday a large number of students from
Gundagai Public joined in the street parade. Congratulations to everyone
involved in these activities.
Best of luck to the Trent Barrett team of Wesley Murray, Clay Murray, Max
Eccleston, Jared Elphick, Ben Hughes, Jack Lloyd, Cohan Rowley, Jock
Triggs, Brayden, Tutty, Toby Dasey and William Murray who will contest the
finals in Wagga tomorrow. I know the team has been training hard and
everyone at school will be thinking of you tomorrow. Go Gundy!
This week religious instruction will be provided to all students through our
Scripture program and the school welcomes Lyall Morris and Jake Rayment
from OAC Ministries who will use puppets, computer animation and games
during their teaching sessions. As explained in last week’s newsletter if you do
not wish for your child to participate in religious education lesson (Scripture) this term, you will need to contact
the school with a note or phone call. As the school uses different providers each term a separate note will be
required each term if you do not wish your children to attend this particular scripture session.

PREMIERS SPELLING BEE
The Premier’s Spelling Bee was introduced to provide a fun and educational way for primary school students to engage in spelling and promote improved literacy. It was obvious from the outstanding efforts of Gundagai Public School finalists last week that it certainly does just that. All class representatives rose to the occasion and demonstrated excellent spelling skills.
Best wishes are extended to Blair Pollack, Ashley Smith and Tayla Smith who are representing Gundagai Public School at the Regional final in Wagga Wagga today.

MORNING DROP OFF Parents please note that the top block entry gate area is not a suitable drop off place for children. Children are being dropped off in the top block area, running down the hill, ACROSS THE STAFF CARPARK onto the path. This is highly dangerous and against school rules. If you MUST drop your child off in the top block area please ensure they walk to the primary class block and then down the footpath.
RIVERFEST POETRY COMPETITION
Students from Gundagai Public School all entered the spirit of the Riverfest Poetry competition and wrote poems around the Murrumbidgee River theme. A selection of the most entertaining entries from each grade were sent to the Riverfest committee for judging and we were delighted to hear that Damien Moulds won the upper primary division and Dempsey Elphick was runner up. Both students attended The Poet’s Breakfast on Sunday morning where they recited their poems and were recognised for their efforts. Congratulations Damien and Dempsey.
ON THE MURRUMBIDGEE by Damien Moulds On the Murrumbidgee River Drifting down the stream Hear the water gushing It’s like a comforting dream. The birds are happily chirping Making music in the sun They’re singing fluent songs And having so much fun.
Schools of fish are darting fast Through the water oh so blue They play together, chase the tadpoles And swim from me to you.
In the thick and slimy mud Snakes quietly slither by me Hunting food after hibernation In the hollows of an ancient tree. I’m sitting on the railway bridge And staring at the sky Thinking about the river That flows through Gundagai.

PEER SUPPORT
The highly successful Peer Support program, which has been running throughout Terms 2 and 3, concluded last Thursday. This program has operated on a fortnightly basis with Year 6 peer leaders working with multi age groups of students to provide a supportive learning environment in which to develop key skills in resilience, assertiveness, decision making, problem solving and leadership.
Special congratulations must go to the outstanding job our Year 6 students have done in running these sessions. Many staff members have commented on the mature, friendly and sensitive way our Year 6 students have led their groups. Each leader will receive a certificate of recognition at this Thursday’s Welfare assembly.
