·Banned machine guns, imposed taxes on gun sales, and regulated certain sales and shipments of guns

·Outlawed mail order of guns

·Firearm Owners Protection Act of 1986

·covers the broad regulations in the firearm industry, prohibition of the sale of guns to certain people

like drug users, those with a criminal record or a history of mental disorders.

·The implications that the debate has for average families in society are

·Less able to protect themselves in their homes from intruders

·If guns are taken away how will people protect themselves from a tyrant government
