Gull Aire Village September 2018 - Page 5

To All Gull Aire Residents, Labor Day is almost upon us and that means the Height of Hurricane Season. Please remember that we are in a Mandatory Evacuation Zone, should a Hurricane be predicted to head our way. Please have a plan in place and follow it. This Summer has had us working on projects needing to be completed. We were able to get a company in to fix the problem of standing water by the shallow end of the pool, during and after each storm. It now empties within minutes. The wood above and below the outside kitchen window has been replaced and looks great. The hole in the ceiling of the front entrance is completed and the down spouts have a new coat of paint. As of this writing we are working on the clean-up of Swale A that runs behind the homes on Trout and Salmon Ct. This may take a little time to complete as we are working with 3 Government Agencies. Please be patient and remember that the Government works on their time frame, not ours. Swale B will not be touched as it is a Wetland and Wildlife Preserve. We have lost a few Residents this Summer and all of them will be greatly missed. Our deepest Sympathy to all of their families. Our next Board of Directors meeting will be held at the Club House on September 25th at 6:30 PM. We look forward to seeing everyone at this meeting. Enjoy the rest of your Summer and stay safe. Bonnie Theal GAVA President

Welcome back everyone. I hope everyone had a fun filled summer. September starts off with our September 3rd Labor Day Cookout. The Social Club will be grilling Hamburgers and Hotdogs on our new grill. The grill is an 8 burner, so we should be able to cook more food faster. Come on down and enjoy our cookout. All we ask is that you bring a side dish to share with at least 8 people. What better way to end the summer than with a cookout and pool time. On September 8 we will have a fun dance we call “Boomers Blast”. Everyone is requested to send a baby picture and a recent picture of yourself to TC Hite at:

[email protected]

They will be placed on a board and you will try and match the two pictures. This should be interesting. The band, aptly named “Baby Boomers”, will be playing music of our time. What a lot of fun this should be. This year on September 22, we are trying a new theme for a pot luck dinner. We call it “International Table Pot Luck”. How it will work is you and your friends at your table will pick a country of your choice and decorate your table in that country theme. Along with the decoration you will bring food appropriate for that country to share at your table. There will also be a comedy show to entertain you. Let’s see how many countries we can represent. To end the month of September we will have our famous “Night at the Races” hosted by Sandy & Bill Kicza. They have been hosting this race for several years now and it has proven to be one of the highlights of the year. Everyone, please come and cheer on our jockeys and see what crazy antics they pull to win. September 29 is a night you have to put on your calendar, so you don’t miss it. Gull Aire is always an active community. Along with the above special nights there is an array of activities to keep you busy and in shape such as Yoga, Zumba Gold exercises, Video Aerobics, Line Dancing, Karaoke, Tai Chi, Bingo, Bunco and various card games to name a few. As you can see there is no way you can get bored in Gull Aire Village. Please, keep checking the bulletin board and the web site for additions and changes. We look forward to seeing you at our fun activities. A Dale Mathurin, President GAV Social Club

BOCCE Bob Rose 727-439-4380 The fall 2018 /spring 2019 season is about to begin. Work will begin on the courts to prepare them for the start of the season. Summer rains have been hard on the courts and the courts will require weed spraying and clean up, plus a lot of raking and rolling to get them in tip top shape. The season will start October 15 and continue through the end of April. We will have three scheduled days a week for Bocce. Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. Monday and Thursday teams will be selected weekly by a lotto system which has worked very well during the past two seasons. Tuesday's players will sign up for individual teams. The sign-up sheets will go up in the Club House October 1st. Get your friends together and sign up to play for the season or be sub when needed.

A Tribute Vicki Labate snowbird “Gull-Airian” from Michigan passed into eternity on July 17th, 2018 a few months shy of her 70th birthday. Vicki was a tireless asset to our Village especially in the Clubhouse kitchen and as a big part of the annual bazaar. I served with her on many Wednesday Bingo "hot-dog nights”. This is not an empty platitude in stating the obvious that "Vicki WILL be missed". A. Nemo

Fun shuffle continues every Thursday at 9:00am, though you may have to bring along some towels to mop up the sweat, but we’re still having fun! With our super powerful fans blasting some cool air, it’s really not bad at all. We Floridians can take the heat! There will be a change in our League play start time this coming season. It will allow us to begin play 45 minutes earlier, so we don’t have to get stuck in all that “going home from work” traffic when we finish our games. A note is posted at the courts and at the Clubhouse explaining start times. I will give more detailed information regarding start times in the October newsletter. In the meantime, have fun and enjoy your Summer. Alice Szczur

Perks of reaching 60 or being over 70

and heading towards 80!

1. Kidnappers are not very interested in you. 2. In a hostage situation you are likely to be released first. 3. No one expects you to run--anywhere. 4. People call at 8 PM and ask : "Did I wake you?" 5. People no longer view you as a hypochondriac. 6. There is nothing left to learn the hard way. 7. Things you buy now won't wear out. 8. You can eat supper at 5 PM . 9. You can live without sex but not your glasses. 10. Your supply of brain cells is finally down to manageable size. 11. You can't remember who sent you this list. 12. And you notice these are all in Big Print for your convenience

Pass this on to everyone you can remember right now! And remember, Never, under any circumstances, take a sleeping pill and a laxative on the same night!
