UMEA, the university town in northern Sweden which has been selected as the European Capital of Culture for 2014, is to become home to one of the world’s finest vintage guitar collections.
The collection of electric guitars, basses, drums and props comprises over 500 pieces in total.
It is the property and brainchild of twin brothers Samuel and Mikael Ahden who’ve both been collecting guitars for over forty years.

Twin brothers Åhdéns unique collection of guitars, basses, amplifiers and props are the basis for a interactive and experi-ential permanent exhibition of approximately 500 physical objects.
Alongside the permanent exhibition there willbe leasable rooms for temporary exhibitions, clinics, lectures and news presentations.

This is a 1960 Gibson Les Paul Sunburst, one of the guitars that will be exhibited at the museum.
Take the factory tour to find out how it was made.
The factory tour will show the process of building a guitar from a piece a wood to a finished guitar.
There will be two lanes, one for Gibson and one for Fender.

Two rooms in the museum will house various Guest Exhibitions and will serve as conference rooms.

LIVEUmea’s music scene is an important part of the cultural life in the city. It´s at Scharinska that artists in Umea meet when they come home from tours, celebrate new releases and performs. Basi-cally a cool place to hang out among friends and other musicians.
