2. Student Idea: All Feedback on Work Should Be

Typed, and the Marker's Name Available to the Student

Council discussed that some colleges do this, but not all. Rachael Gillies

suggested that to ensure consistency, they be included in the Visions for

Education for each college.

Council voted to incorporate this into the Visions for Education and

instruct Ben Street to include in his work on student feedback.

3. Student Petition: 24 hour opening for The Loft and/or The

Sanctuary

Naomi Armstrong stated that study space didn’t seem to be a problem at

night and various councillors agreed with her. Emily Bevan pointed out that

the Loft had been open 24 hours during the exam period. Matt Bate said that

he didn’t see a great enough need for this, and that having looked into it in the

past, there were significant costs in keeping these spaces open all night.

While the proposer and any Sabbatical Officer are free to use this

petition how they wish, Council voted to take no further action.

4. Student Idea: Get Rid of the Hairdresser and Replace it with

Something More Relevant, Like a Second-Hand Book Shop

Council voted to instruct Rachael Gillies to work with Elk on prices

(including inviting the owner to Council to discuss this idea further),

better publicise the second hand bookshop and review this work

when deciding if the Elk’s lease should be renewed.

5. Student Idea: Have a Lost Property Bin or Drop

Off Point in the Forum or DH1

Council voted to pass this to a Sabbatical Officer to raise with the

University, but a vote on what system to suggest was inconclusive:

CREATE A MAP OF LOST PROPERTY LOCATIONS - 6

CREATE A CENTRALISED SYSTEM FOR FINDING LOST

PROPERTY - 3

ABSTAIN - 11

The Sabbatical Officer that works on this could raise these ideas at the next

appropriate meeting, but not feel mandated to push for one idea in particular.

6. Student Idea: There Should Be a Reading Week in Semester 1

and 2 for all Courses

Natalie Anderson told Council that Ben Street is currently reviewing this and

had found no optimum solution for all courses. Emily Bevan said that not all

courses need a reading week and other councillors agreed. Maria Finnerty

reminded Council that term dates are set three years in advance so any

action taken would be unlikely to be put into place for several years anyway.

Matt Bate suggested passing this to SSLCs to feed into their existing work.

7. Student Idea: A system that tells you how many seats and

how many computers are free on each floor of the library and

each study area

Several councillors pointed out that this already exists in the MyExeter

app, but raised various issues with the app – that there is a too much of

a lag and that it doesn’t say where seats are free.

Council voted to incorporate publicising the app and lobbying

to keep improving it into Ben Street’s existing work on this.

8. Provide a hot water dispenser in the Forum, so that students

who study at night can make hot food

Council discussed that these were already available on Campus and so

it would not be a valuable use of resources to install more, but that

the proposer should be informed of the location of the existing

taps.
