Guidelines for Forearm Lift Safety and Maintenance

For most people, the notion behind the operation of a forearm lift is usually something that can be dispensed with ease. However, from the looks of things this is not how it really is when operating such a machine. Because of this common misconception, there are many accidents and fatal injuries associated with the improper usage of the forearm lift. While precaution should be taken when using any heavy equipment such as this machine, there are also general considerations that should be taken that should help keep the

forearm lift in top condition.

For safety, the first thing that you should look for is the seatbelt. Inspect the seatbelt and check if the seatbelt is still completely functioning.

Besides the seatbelt, there are other basic safety features that are incorporated in a forearm lift. The carriage is designed to help improve stability and provide a high center of gravity. Check to see if the condition of the carriage is in good condition. Make sure that it is not deformed or bent in any other way.

Check the mast. Make sure that mast is properly lubricated and there are no deformations present such as bent parts. Also check if the mast does not have any missing parts like pins and bushings.

Check the engine. See if the machine can turn properly and change gears without any delay or loss of power. Remember, the oil and cooling system of the engine has to be checked and maintained every once in a while, just like a regular vehicle. Also, the transmission should also be checked to see if there is a need to provide it with transmission fluid.

Check the roll over protection mechanism of the lift. This is one of the most important features of the lift that can spell the difference of life or death for the operator. Make sure that this is still in excellent working condition, as this is the part of the lift responsible for keeping the operator from harm when the lift rolls over.

When operating the lift, remember that the lift has a high center of gravity and it can easily be toppled. However, the weight of the lift can help mitigate this problem and always should be taken into account when operating.

What is important is that when operating the lift, it should not be used in such a way that it is operated like a toy. Most operators who are inexperienced usually rush through things and hastily maneuver the lift without foresight. This usually results in the toppling of the lift and eventual accidents.

When this happens, do not jump as the heavy weight of the lift can contribute to a quicker fall than most operators can anticipate. This should be kept in mind, as some operators who have jumped out of the lift during these instances have gotten hit by the body of the lift and seriously injured or killed.

Now that you have read some basic guidelines for the maintenance of the lift you should have a better understanding of how such a machine works and how it should be used. Just like any other heavy equipment, he forearm lift takes a considerable amount of skill to use.
