What canwe expect from the CAT exam this year?Whatare theprobabilities?
The quality of the CAT examhas been going up year on year. Thechallenge is in setting questions that test qualities expected to bethere in budding managers. The essentials of speed andanalytical skillswill be inhighlight, inmyopinion
Any lastmonthpreparationtips forCATaspirants?
Practicehard. Noone succeedswithouthardwork
Any factors that students must keep in mind whileanalyzing theirperformance inmocks?
The performance in quantitative techniques will be crucial, asalso the time taken inansweringquestions
How does an MBA degree bridges the gap betweenwhereyouareandwhereyouwant tobe in future?
Amanagement course is the culminationof all-round learning. Atrue manager (who ultimately will be a leader) should have ablendof hard subject knowledge, strong application skills and theability to draw from a variety of concepts and theories. It is thiscross-functional approach that makes a leader stand out. So aMBA creates value to the student in terms of subject knowledge, project work, ability to relate theory to practice, cross-functionaldimensions, andmost important, to understand and see strategicimperatives
With increasing demand for MBA education in India, management colleges are mushrooming like anything. So, on what factors must a student base his/her choiceofanMBAcollege?
Students must base their choice on key factors in the Instituteincluding proven record, academic orientation and ethicaldimensions. I amdwellingon thesebelow.
Why should a student choose SDMIMD as their

managementdestination?
In choosing an institute, a student should look at four essentialcriteria -
the promoter group to which the Institute belongs, the realmissionandvisionof the Institute and its avowedobjectives
the infrastructure and facilities offered to students in terms ofliving atmosphere, library, computing facilities and ambienceof the campus
the academic rigour followed in the Institute quality ofcurriculum, pedagogy, quality of faculty, involvement ofstudents in research, culminating in good placements interms of the quality of profiles, average salary and thereputationof the employerorganizationsvisiting the campus.
other indirect factors like tie-up arrangements with foreignuniversities, conferences and events held in the institute, general research atmosphere and number of guest andcorporate lectures in campus.
SDMIMD fits the bill in all of the above. It belongs to the 600-year old, highlyphilanthropicDharmasthalaTrust, has oneof thebest campuses for management education in the country, hashighacademic rigor and state of the art academic record, asborneout by the ACBSP, USA accreditation and the consistently highrating given by external agencies (including A** by CRISIL andBrickwork Ratings). The placement performance has beenconsistently goodover the years. In termsof special lectures fromcorporate leaders and dignitaries, the average is around 75 peryear. The research output per faculty is among the highest in thecountry.
What kind of initiatives has SDMIMD taken to ensurethat students are in sync with the practicalrequirementsof the industry? '
The current challenge in industry is to have good leaders who arewell grounded in values and ethics. First the grooming to be aleader this is carried out by having a curricula and orientationwhich gets revised year after year. Being site-license holders ofHarvard, most courses have a number of cases discussed in class, which brings the student to the reality of practical decision-making. Students are, in addition, put througha socially-relevantprojectwhich seeks to sensitise them into the imperative of socialresponsibility. Students are involved in a number of corporateprojects as a part of courses, and in joint work with faculty onapplied projects. Besides there are scheduled corporate visits forfits-hand interaction. Also, teams of SDMIMD students work inpartnership with visiting foreign students in special projects. They get the opportunity to interact and interview corporateleadersduring these events.
