KOTRA Academy was launched in 2003

as a professional learning center for

international business. In the long run,

    KOTRAs well-trained trade and invest-

    ment manpower, armed with relevant

    theoretical and practical knowledge, will

bolster the nation's trade and invest-

    ment infrastructure.

    1. Introduction

KOTRA, initially the Korea Trade Promo-

    tion Corporation, was established in

1962 as a national trade promotion

organization. Since then, it has success-

    fully facilitated Koreas rapid export-led

    economic development through various

trade promotion activities such as over-

    seas market surveys and business

    matchmaking.

In August 1995, cross-border invest-ment promotion and support for techno-

    logical and industrial cooperation pro-

jects was added to KOTRAs mandate,

and it was renamed the Korea Trade-

    Investment Promotion Agency (KOTRA).

    KOTRA currently operates Invest

    KOREA, the national investment promo-

tion agency. Originally initiated as the

Korea Investment Service Center (KISC)in 1998, the agency was renamed as

Invest KOREA in November 2003 to

    support foreign investors by offering

    more powerful incentives and an

    expanded range of services.

KOTRA is now well-equipped to pursue

its twin mandates of trade and invest-

    ment promotion to enhance national

    prosperity and competitiveness, with the

ultimate goal of positioning Korea as the

business and economic hub of North-

east Asia. With its long-term experience

and expert ise, KOTRA serves and

assists all interested parties worldwideto do business with Korea.

In order to execute its mandates more

efficiently, KOTRA has opened an exten-

    sive worldwide network of overseas

    Korea Business Centers (KBC).

As of 2009, 98 KBCs are operating in

    71 countries.

    1. Overview

    Foreigners entry into Korea

In principle, a foreigner must obtain a visa from a Korean embassy in a foreign

country in order to enter Korea.

A national of a country with which Korea has concluded a bilateral visa exemption

agreement or for which Korea has made a special designation may enter Korea

    without any problem.

For the list of countries whose nationals may enter Korea without a visa, please

refer to the Immigration Offices Homepage (http://www.immigration.go.kr/)

The most common types of visa are as following:
