Reminder: If your student was enrolled in the Bremerton School District last year, you do notneed to do anything to “enroll” or “register” them for the 2020-21 school year, unless you aretransferring to Home Link.

School Supplies

Most students will be able to complete connected learningtasks and assignments using a digital device and suppliescommonly found at home. Supplies recommended for moststudents include paper, pencils, pencil sharpeners, pens, andcomposition notebooks for o�ine note taking. A set ofearphones/headphones with a microphone may be useful forstudents while listening to recorded instruction or participatingin live instruction.

Update for kindergarten families

Our kindergarten students don’t start until Tuesday,September 8. However, next week, kindergarten families willbe contacted by their child’s teacher as they work to get toknow each of their students.

Why does kindergarten start later? All kindergarten classes inWashington state start three days after grades 1-12 start.This allows our kindergarten teachers to contact each familyand �nd out what your child's strengths and interests are, and�nd out about any speci�c needs your child may have that willhelp them in the �rst weeks of school.

We are so happy you chose Bremerton School District andwant to make this learning time fun and engaging for yourchild and your family. We look forward to working with yourfamily to continue the learning you started at home!

information about grade-level or course needs and supplies. If you’d like to stock up onsupplies while they are on sale, lists are posted on our website and on TeacherLists.com(note: not all supply lists have been updated to re�ect our switch to Connected Learning).

School Meals

Meals will be available for all enrolled Bremerton SchoolDistrict students starting September 2. Meals will bedistributed:

From 10 a.m. - 12 p.m. at all* Bremerton School Districtschools andBy bus on all elementary school bus routes Mondaythrough Friday

Reminder: Our summer meal program concludes this week. The last day to pick-up meals isWednesday, August 26.

*Students who attend Renaissance High School or Open Doors may pick up meals at anyother school as meals will not be served at those locations.

Attendance

Daily attendance for all students will be taken for grades PK-12and students are required to participate daily, just as theywould in an in-person classroom.

Elementary: Elementary attendance will be taken with a dailycheck-in activity and monitored during other synchronous andasynchronous learning time.

What to expect the first two weeks of school

The �rst two weeks of school will be focused on getting to know our students and families.We will incorporate training on technology tools to use during Social-Emotional Learningactivities to build classroom community and relationships. Students will also be engaging inwelcoming activities at their schools and getting to know their teachers and classmates. Yourstudent’s school will be communicating about school-speci�c activities soon - if they haven’talready!

Secondary: Attendance will be taken during synchronous learning and monitored duringasynchronous learning times.

Research has shown that regular, daily participation and attendance are a key factor in studentacademic success. When students are ill or they will be missing school for any reason,parents/guardians will need to notify their student’s school to report absences as they havedone in prior years.

Thank you for helping us ensure all students are engaging in and learning each and everyschool day!

Grading

Students will be receiving feedback and assessed regularlyon their learning in a variety of ways. Report cards will beissued at the end of each semester.

Secondary: Secondary grading will be grounded in essentialstandards utilizing an A, B, C, D, F and “Incomplete” gradingscale.

Elementary: Elementary grading will be grounded in essentialstandards utilizing an 4, 3, 2, 1 and +/✓/- grading scale.

Special Education

We are committed to supporting students and families with unique needs, including specialeducation services. Students with disabilities will have additional options in alignment withthe IEP Teams’ decisions. Special education teachers are reaching out to students andfamilies to initiate conversations about instruction, services, and accommodations that canbe safely delivered through a combination of connected learning and in-person support.

Elementary School Families (including WHSA K-5):

Elementary Families (grades 1-5, including WHSA): Teachers will welcome their students onthe �rst day of school, even though Wednesday is an asynchronous learning day forelementary students. You can expect more information from your child’s school about the �rstday of school by Friday, August 28.

Elementary parents: Please complete the following tasks before the �rst day of school.
