Faubion United Methodist Church
Community Partnerships
As many of you know, community is a very important part of what we do here at Faubion United Methodist, and is a huge driving factor behind why I do what I do as you
pastor. We here at Faubion have the distinguished privilege of being able to trace our
roots back to the very founding of this community. It is in that spirit that I’d like to up-
date you all as to the ways in which our church continues its partnership with the Boy
Scouts of America.
We are very blessed to have Pack 606 of the Cub Scouts meeting in our church
facility throughout the year. Pack 606 has been meeting at our church since the fall of
2019. The Webelos recently wrapped up a six week class entitled God and Family where
they learned how to build their life upon the foundation of faith in God. The pack also
just completed the 2020/2021 year of programming with a ceremony that honored the
scouts accomplishments achieved throughout the year. Chris Warrent, one of the packs
leaders, recently contacted me about possible service project opportunities. I let him
know that our playground area was in need of some fresh mulch and weeding.
Thanks to a generous donation of Mulch from Noll Landscaping, our playground
area is looking great. Pictured below are some of the scouts hard at work, helping to
maintain our facilities.
As many of you may know, our church has been
the recipient of a few Eagle Scout projects in the past,
Korey and Riley Heustis (Grandsons of Glenn and Joan
Fowler) completed their Eagle Scout projects in 2016 and
2017 respectively. This tradition will continue this fall as
Jackson Heustis will be scraping, priming and painting our
community garden shed, as well as building a retaining wall
for the shed to divert water runoff from entering the shed.
It’s partnerships like these that bring out com-
munity together, and continue to strengthen our ties
within the community.
As we continue to emerge from
this season of pandemic and quarantine,
it is my hope that we can continue to en-
gage with our community as we pursue
our place of ministry within it.
For the glory of The Kingdom
Pastor Tim

Faubion Women
The United Methodist Women (UMW) is a separate entity from the Methodist Church and is an integral
part of the church as well. Many Methodist churches have a UMW that not only provides a lot of
community service but also in the church it resides in. Faubion had a UMW unit until a couple of years
ago. The UMW By-laws were revised and we noticed two particular changes that would severely
impact the way we operate. The By-Laws stated that all elected officers be members of the church. I
am not a member of any church which means I could no longer be President or hold any elected
office. We decided that was not necessary for us to operate and do what God has asked us to
do. The second change was that we could keep $500 in our Treasury and send the rest to the District
UMW at the end of year. As many of you know we support approximately 20 local charities at the end
of the year as well as some missions in the church itself. We also leave a cushion in our Treasury in
case we have needs in the kitchen or other areas of the church. After much discussion we decided to
no longer be a part of the UMW but go our separate ways. We became the Faubion Women. We still
continue all the work we did before and feel we have more freedom to do
what we believe God calls us to do.
With all the new women in the church we invite you to join us. We do meet
monthly and often have field trips or lunch out as well as our sales. Next
month I will talk about all the areas the FW participate in the church and local
community. ~ Abby Call

What a joyous occasion to be back in church with all our dear friends and
family! As Christians, we are to be within our community; sharing, laughing,
loving, hugging, listening, and worshipping together. My friends, we are
finally back together as one family in God’s House in full capacity. Come
celebrate this joy with us on June 27th, at 2pm as we praise God in song for
an awesome Hymn Sing event. We will have special music from choir, bells,
men’s quartet, solos, and much more! We will also be singing our favorite
hymns and timeless treasures that are near and dear to our hearts.

B I B L I C A L F A T H E R S
– faithful, flawed servants of God
The first Father's Day celebration in a church
took place in what is now Central United
Methodist Church in Fairmont, West Virginia.
Still, it was not until 1972 that the third Sunday
in June was officially designated as Father's Day
in the United States.
As we thank God for dads, it is interesting,
appropriate and sometimes amusing to look
at some important biblical fathers.
In Scripture, fathers play a dominant role as
leaders, providers, protectors, and spokespersons
for the larger family unit. It can be a challenge
to read these ancient stories with modern eyes.
Yes, times have changed, but there is still much
to learn about human nature and redemption
from how God uses biblical fathers, despite their
imperfections,
in the creation
and salvation
of the world.
• Adam -
The first
father and
human being is introduced in Genesis 2:7.
He and Eve became parents with the birth of
two sons, Cain, Abel and another child, Seth.
• Abraham - God promises a new blessing to
make his offspring as numerous as the stars of
heaven or sand on the seashore.
• Jacob - He and his two wives and concubines
have 12 sons and one named daughter. The
sons' names represent the 12 tribes of Israel.
• Joseph - Matthew and Luke trace the lineage
of Jesus' earthly father through King David,
to Judah, Abraham and Adam, son of God.
Matthew describes Joseph as a righteous man.

Faubion Chapel Dianne Ratledge Ridgley - Pt. 84
Del and I were married in the new sanctuary, but the wedding party dressed in the rooms of the old chapel. There was no air-conditioning and June 12, 1964 was dry and sultry but only our guests noticed that while they waited for my maid-of-honor, Sue Musick, who was thirty minutes late due to city traffic. When Rev. Charles Holt announced that we were waiting for a member of the wedding party to arrive, I’m sure the congregation of over 150 though it was the groom who was late.
I knew better. I could see him pacing up and down outside the opaque window which had been raised just a bit for air.
My sister, Debbie, age 9, couldn’t decide which of her three friends were to be my candlelighters so mom made four green dresses and all four of them lighted the tapers. They stood in front of our barren chancel and created the prettiest decoration. I could see Debbie’s big tears in her huge green eyes as she watched the wedding of her big sister.
My sister, Janet, was a lovely blond flower girl in a lime-green dress. She too noticed the heat and humidity even though she was only three and a
half. During the singing of “The Lord’s Prayer”, she removed her hat, her gloves, and was ready for her shoes when the song ended the ceremony and her strip-tease act.
After our reception in the basement of the church, we took off in Del’s 1962 white corvette which had been carefully decorated by many friends.

items include shower chairs, commodes, crutches, a wheel chair and slide
board. Please contact Marjorie Riley at 816-536-8743 if you have a need.

Baby Grace
LoveINC asked their member churches to have a baby shower to help their
clients. As our baby shower donation, we gave the excess of blankets, bibs,
burp cloths, and other baby items that we had on hand from Baby Grace.
For Fabuion’s Baby Grace ministry, we have one
event each year requesting monetary donations to help buy diapers for our
clients. This fundraiser began on Mother’s Day and ends on Father’s
Day. Grab a baby bottle in the narthex and drop your coins in during this
time. If you don’t have coins, we also accept paper money and checks. Mark
checks for Baby Grace please. Bring bottles with you on Father’s Day.
Thank you for your ongoing support of our Baby Grace mission. ~ Jan Pace
