Guía de iniciación para APICS.

Está guía práctica le ayudará a conocer APICS, integrarse y ser parte de un grupo

selecto de profesionales referentes en la gerencia de supply chain y operaciones.

En primer lugar, gracias por tomarse el tiempo para leer esta guía, esperamos sea de

mucha ayuda en su camino al crecimiento profesional y personal. A continuación

queremos plantear un orden lógico, camino a su certificación APICS.

1. Cree su ID de APICS, registrándose en la pagina www.apics.org a. Ingrese a la pagina www.apics.org y haga click en el tab register

b. Ingrese los datos solicitados


c. Luego de hacer click en submit, recibirá un e-mail de confirmación para

la asignación de su APICS ID. Con ese ID ya tiene acceso a programar

un examen, comprar un curso o atender un evento de APICS.

General Questions

What is Computer-Based Testing (CBT)?

APICS will deliver its exams exclusively in computer-based testing (CBT) format and

standardize registration and testing procedures around the globe.


What is the role of Prometric and Pearson VUE in the certification process?

Prometric and Pearson VUE are the test vendors with which APICS has contracted to

deliver APICS exams. Prometric is authorized to deliver exams outside North America;

Pearson VUE is authorized to deliver APICS exams in North America.

When are APICS exams available?

CPIM exams in North America are available year-round. CPIM exams outside North

America and CSCP exams worldwide are available during specific testing windows.

The testing windows for each program and region can be found in the examination

procedures bulletins.

What is an Authorization to Test (ATT)?

Starting November 1, 2013, you will need an Authorization to Test (ATT) to schedule

an APICS exam. ATTs are required whether you are scheduling an exam at a Pearson

VUE or Prometric test center. To obtain an ATT, please go to apics.org/att and

complete the Request an ATT Form.

How long is my ATT valid?

If you are a CPIM candidate testing in North America, your ATT is valid for one year

from the date issued. However, if you are unable to test during the testing window,

and your ATT expires during the middle of this testing window, you may extend your

ATT to the next available testing window. If you are a CSCP candidate testing

anywhere in the world or a CPIM candidate testing outside North America, the ATT is

valid for the testing window you selected when completing the ATT Request Form.

What is a testing window?

A testing window is a specific timeframe that an APICS exam is offered. The APICS

CPIM exams are available year-round in North America during testing windows

outside North America. The APICS CSCP exam is available during testing windows

throughout the globe.


Is there a fee for switching to another testing window?

If you are a CSCP candidate testing anywhere in the world or a CPIM candidate

testing outside North America, the ATT is valid for the testing window you selected

when completing the ATT Request Form. However, you have the option to update

the original ATT and select another window that starts on or before the authorization

expiration date at no additional cost. After the authorization expiration date, you will

need to request a new ATT and pay the new fee. All requests for a new testing

window must be made prior to the end of the currently selected testing window.

For example, if you are testing during the 2014–2015 testing windows outside North

America:

• If you complete the ATT Request Form on 15 January 2014 and choose the 22 March–10 May 2014 testing window, you may reschedule for any of the next three windows at no charge, because they all occur prior to the 14 January 2015 expiration date. Choosing the 21 March–9 May 2015 window or beyond requires additional payment of the full fee.

• If you complete the ATT Request Form on 30 March 2014 and choose the 22 March–10 May 2014 testing window, you may reschedule for any of the next four windows at no charge, because the 21 March–9 May 2015 window includes the 29 March 2015 expiration date. (Reminder: When an expiration date occurs within a window, you have to the entire window.) Choosing the 6 June–4 July 2015 window or beyond requires additional payment of the full fee.

What is an overview of the new process?

1. Exam candidate obtains exam credit from an APICS partner or corporate client

(optional).

2. Candidate completes online ATT Request Form and pays exam fee (using either

exam credit or other available methods of payment, such as credit card).

3. Candidate receives a confirmation email containing a summary of the information

submitted in the ATT Request Form. This email contains payment information and

can be used as a receipt.

4. Candidate receives ATT email with scheduling instructions after authorization

information has been successfully transmitted to testing vendor (typically within a

few minutes of completing the online request form).

5. Candidate schedules exam with testing vendor.


Is there a document available to candidates outlining the exam registration

process?

Yes. There are examination procedures bulletins for both the CPIM and CSCP exams,

which outline APICS exam processes and policies for the exam candidate. The

bulletins are available at apics.org/bulletins.

How do candidates obtain an ATT?

Candidates may complete the ATT Request Form at apics.org/att (requires log-in).

After payment is applied and the authorization information is successfully

transmitted to the testing vendor, the ATT email with scheduling instructions is sent

to the candidate from [email protected].

When I was approved for CSCP eligibility I received an Authorization to Test

email. Why do I have to get another one?

Until recently, APICS referred to CSCP eligibility approval notifications as

Authorizations to Test. Those approval notifications are not the same as the ATTs

currently required to schedule an exam. We have since changed the language in the

approval notifications to reflect this change.

The name on my ATT is different from the name in my (Pearson VUE/Prometric)

profile. How do I fix this?

If the name on the ATT is correct and the name in your Pearson VUE or Prometric

profile is incorrect, you will need to contact Pearson VUE or Prometric directly to

update your name.

If the name on your ATT is incorrect and the name in your Pearson VUE or Prometric

profile is correct, email [email protected] to request an update to the name in your

APICS profile. You may be asked to provide supporting documentation such as a

copy of your government-issued identification.


What forms of payment are accepted for an ATT? May I request an invoice and

pay by wire transfer?

You may pay by exam credit, credit card, PayPal, exam voucher (North America only)

or wire transfer. If the wire transfer option is selected, APICS includes payment

instructions in the confirmation email sent after the ATT request is submitted. In this

case, the ATT is not created until the wire transfer is received and applied to the

authorization order.

How can I obtain an exam credit, if I choose this payment method?

APICS partners, including North American chapters, are authorized to sell exam

credits to candidates. Please visit apics.org/finder to locate an APICS partner near you.

In some cases, you may also be able to obtain an exam credit from your company.

Your organization’s internal APICS contact can tell you if this is an option.

Can I pay for my ATT in a currency other than USD?

Yes. If you are planning to test outside the United States, you should first contact a

local APICS partner to see if purchasing an exam credit is an option for you. APICS

partners can accept payment in the local currency, and often at a better price than

purchasing from APICS directly. Please visit apics.org/finder to locate an APICS

partner near you. Otherwise, if you pay APICS directly when requesting your ATT, you

will have the option to pay by PayPal, which accepts several different types of

currencies.

I have unused/unexpired North American exam vouchers. Will I still be able to

use them with the new program?

Yes. To use your exam voucher, enter the voucher code on the payment screen of the

ATT Request Form.

How soon after requesting an ATT from APICS will I be able to schedule an APICS

exam?

In most cases, you may schedule with Pearson VUE or Prometric within the same day

that you request an ATT. Once you receive the ATT email with the scheduling

instructions, you may schedule an exam.

Where can I view a list of available test centers?

To view a list of test centers outside North America, select the Locate a Test Center

option at prometric.com/apics. For test centers in North America, select the Locate a

Test Center option at pearsonvue.com/apics.

Can I see available appointments before purchasing an ATT?

Candidates for exams outside of North America can view available appointments

before purchasing an ATT through Prometric's online scheduling system. To do so, go

to prometric.com/apics, click the green Start Here button, and then select Search for

Seat Availability. Follow the on-screen prompts.

Candidates for exams in North America must have an ATT in order to view available

appointments through Pearson VUE's online scheduling system at this time. Calling

Pearson VUE customer service could be an option for candidates who want to know

availability before purchasing an ATT.


Why does Prometric's online scheduling system show appointments outside of

the APICS exam windows?

Prometric's scheduling system shows all appointments available at the time. It is not

until after you select a date and time that the system asks for your authorization ID

and then verifies that the date you chose falls within your authorization start and end

dates. If you choose an appointment date that occurs outside of your authorization

start and end dates, the system will not allow you to proceed.

When do I choose a testing location?

You will be prompted to select the country in which you plan to test at the time you

complete the ATT Request Form. You will choose the actual test center when you

schedule with the test vendor; it is expected that you will choose a location in the

same country.


What should I do if I am unable to find an available test time or location when

scheduling my exam?

First, consider selecting a different test center in your area. This could mean selecting

a different state/province or country, depending on your location. If you are still

unable to find an available test time or location, it is sometimes possible to contact

the test center directly to ask if any accommodations could be made for you.

Why isn't Prometric accepting my APICS ID when I enter it in the authorization ID

field?

Your APICS ID is different from your authorization ID. Please use the authorization ID

listed in your ATT email. Each time you receive a new ATT your authorization ID will

change.

On my Prometric scheduling confirmation, what does the “Registration

Expiration Date” refer to?

This date does not apply to APICS exams. It is used for other Prometric clients whose

candidates pay Prometric directly for their exam registration.

Am I still allowed to bring an English-native language dictionary to my Prometric

exam?

Yes. The APICS policy on these types of dictionaries is clearly outlined in the

Prometric client practice document each test center has access to, but most

Prometric clients do not allow any type of materials to be used during their exams.

For this reason, some test centers have denied candidates’ requests to use their

English-native language translation dictionaries without even checking the client

practice document.

Prometric has reiterated the dictionary policy to their test center channels, and in some cases have even contacted individual test centers to verify the policy. If your attempt to use your English-native language dictionary is challenged, politely request the staff to check the client practice document.

Do I receive immediate exam results upon completion of the test?

Yes. You are provided a score report prior to leaving the test center. In the event that

the score report cannot be printed, the test center staff files an incident report to


request that a score report be emailed to you.

What should I do if I need a duplicate score report?

Please contact the vendor with which you tested to request that a duplicate score

report be emailed to you.

Exam Credits

Are exam credits specific to a testing window?

No. Exam credits are valid for one year from the date of issue. Within that year, you

must complete the ATT Request Form and use the exam credit as payment. You will

choose the testing window (if applicable) when completing the request form.

How do I use my exam credit?

Once the exam credit has been issued, it automatically appears as a payment option

when you complete the ATT Request Form, as long as the exam and country

information selected in the request form match the exam and region for which the

exam credit was issued.

Glossary of Related Terms

ATT—Authorization to Test; the period of time during which a candidate must

schedule and take an APICS exam. For exams taking place during a predetermined

window, the validity dates correspond to that window.


Authorization expiration—the date through which an ATT is valid. For exams not

delivered during a predetermined testing window, this date is the last date of the

ATT. For exams delivered during a predetermined testing window, this is the date

until which a candidate may choose a new testing window. If this date occurs in the

middle of a predetermined testing window, the candidate has access to the full

window.

CBT—computer-based testing

Exam credit—a prepayment for an APICS exam

Pearson VUE—the test vendor authorized to deliver APICS exams in North America

Prometric—the test vendor authorized to deliver APICS exams outside North America

Testing window—a predetermined set of dates during which certain APICS exams are

available

Voucher—a Pearson VUE-specific prepayment for an APICS exam; precursor to the

exam credit program. Unused vouchers can still be used as payment in the online ATT

Request Form.
