You’ve made the right decision by attending the CIAA’s 53rd annual conference in beautiful Vancouver. Welcome to the city and two and half days of enriched professional development.

In many ways Canada embodies the future. We’re a young country, with a dynamic and diverse population and we embrace change and ideas. That’swhat our business program is all about ... it starts with our keynote RichardBishop – an international expert on Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS),specializing in intelligent/connected/automated vehicles, Richard will give usthe 360 on the driverless car and what it holds for the P&C world.

Our closing speaker is no stranger to sports fans .... Ryan Walter had an illustrious career in the NHL, but since his playing days he’s made his mark as aspeaker, author and motivator. His message is sure to inspire.

Thanks to Jason Christopherson of The Mutual Fire Insurance Company ofBritish Columbia and Rocky Bhatia of Economical Insurance who headed up the

business program. Get ready for some eclectic sessions on broker billings, M&As, Insurance Disrupted, toFort McMurray’s devastation and what insurers learned from it. They also know to stay with the tried andtrue: CEO and CFO panels, along with accounting and tax updates by PwC LLP and KPMG LLP respectively.

My volunteer team did an excellent job: Antonietta Montisano, RSA Canada, kept the registrations on track;Jennifer Ashton, FCT, was in charge of the social side and made sure we scheduled some fun and Rick Keeler ofMunich Re provided budget and treasury expertise. Special thanks to Annette Pohle of PwC LLP, who did afabulous job of enticing sponsors in these challenging times.

We’ve selected a unique charity as this year’s recipient of our raffle fundraising. The Zajac Ranch for Childrenprovides camps for children and young adults with chronic, life-threatening and/or debilitating conditions. They get to explore the great outdoors and have fun in a safe setting. Learn more at zajacranch.com

A special acknowledgement to all our sponsors for their generous contributions. We cannot run a conferencewithout the added financial contributions from these sponsors. I also want to single out two “new” partners forthe CIAA – KPMG LLP and PwC LLP. These firms have stepped up to being Premier Plus Partners which greatlyassists the CIAA in its commitments to deliver quality education to our members.

I encourage you to participate in the Q&As and introduce yourself to an unfamiliar face. There’s plenty tolearn from colleagues and it all starts with a “hello” ... enjoy your conference.
