You need a big list of questions about the book you are using (or a good imagination to come up with some). The possibilities are endless regarding what you use for questions. So here's the fun part: Draw two big mouths on the whiteboard, giving each about 8 teeth. If you have a girl team and a boy team, give one some nice lips. Ask individual team members questions. If they get it RIGHT, you erase one tooth from the OPPONENTS mouth. It gives the impression they are knocking out the teeth of the other team. This game is basically Hangman applied to reviewing; and why not? What other gradual-progression pictures could you use?

Heads down thumbs up.

4 volunteers on floor .

The remainder of the class put heads down on desk. arms crossed under their heads , hands making fists with thumbs sticking up and eyes closed . No peeking !

Volunteers creep round room and each pushes down the thumbs of one person. No-one opens eyes till volunteers return to front

Four whose thumbs were touched stand up and in turn say who they think touched them. [ No-one to say yes or no till all have said] If they are correct they come out and take place of first fourIf not the original person stays on floor.

Point at a number and say what it is. Kids repeat.

Then you try to trick them and you say something that is not correct. Kids have to

stay completely quiet. If they were quiet: one point for them.

If you managed to trick them ie they repeated robotically what you said without thinking:

point for you. We go to ten attempts.

Students all stand up. Each takes a turn in skipping counting by a given number e.g 2’s 5’s, 10’s etc . Take turns counting and if error made the student sits down.

Subitize/additionStudent stand in a circle

Students chosen to roll big foam dice and stand in the centre.Select student to begin and work around the circle .Students roll the dice and the selected student subitizes and if answer correct remains standing and all others call out SUBITIZE and punch hand in the air .

Students stand in rows of equal number Target number of questions selected at the beginning. E.g 25 students -25 questions The teacher should have two /three dice. The dice are rolled and the teacher uses the numbers rolled (e.g. 2, 4 and 1) to create a question for the first student to answer (e.g. "What is 2+4+1?").If the student gives correct answer they sit down , If they get the answer wrong, they stay standing The aim of the game is at the end of the allocated questions the team with the most people sitting are the winners

PIG

White board and marker Big foam dice

Students sit in two teams and name allocated for team and written on white board.Teacher selects a PIGGY NUMBER that MUST not be rolled e.g 5Teacher selects target number that students attempt to take turns rolling the dice and adding to previous number to reach target. If the selected number is rolled e.g 5 then the score returns to 0 and the other team have a turn .Game stops when target number is reached.

First player rolls the dice and the number is written under the team name .Next student rolls the dice and the new number is added to the previous one. Each student than has the chance to either lock in the score or roll to try to reach target number.

Play continues consecutively for a team aas long as they don’t LOCK IN or roll the PIGGY NUMBER REMEMBER IF A STUDENT ROLES THE PIGGY NUMBER their team score returns to 0

Frog in the Box!Set up 2 teams

At the front of the class put a box and mark a line about 3 metres away. Choose a member of team A to stand on the line. The child must underarm a fluffy toy

into the box.

• If the child gets it in, his/her team asks them an 'easy' question, e.g.3 + 2. If they get it right they win a point for their team.

• BUT, if they missed the box, the other team asks them a 'hard' question, e.g.6 + 8. If they get it right they win the point.

Then it is the other team's turn for a shot. Choose a member to have a go. Go back and forth until all students have had a turn

If students having trouble finding hard and easy questions

Make up 2 sets of cards (an easy and a hard set) to display on a table. When a question needed the students selects a card ( either easy or hard to read out . )

Race to the end of the alphabetDivide students into 4 teams .For each team draw a grid on the board 5x5 using all the letters of the alphabet. Put x and y together so the grid makes a square.Choose a category e.g animals , Give them some thinking time to come up with as many animlas they can.

Each student has a turn to contribute an animal and identify the initial sound. As a student says the animal the corresponding letter is wiped from the grid. The first team to have all their letters erased is the winner.

Alphabet Soup Attack

1. Simply draw the alphabet randomly on the white/black board.

2. Break the class into two teams.

3. Put each team in a line a few meters from the board with an eraser.

4. Call out one by one the letters you have drawn. Students race to be the first to erase the letters as you call them. The first team to erase the letter gets a point. Erasing a false letter might mean losing a point.

KABOOMPrepare strips of paper with sentences or words that you are practicing. For 25 students make 30 papers, 3 or 4 of which say KABOOM!

Cover a Pringles container with colored paper and write KABOOM on the outside of it! Place the paper strips into the container. Let students come up 1 at a time, take a paper and read it outloud . If they read it correctly they can return to their seat with it. If not, then they return it to the container.

If they pull out a paper with KABOOM on it, that student needs to collect back all of the papers from his or her team mates. (If you run out of papers just tally them up and write how many each team had on the whiteboard.) The winning team is the team with the most papers in their hands at the end of the class.

I hope your students get as excited about it as mine do. It has the tendency to be a loud game. The students will chant 'KABOOM' over and over again, hoping the other teams students will pull a "KABOOM" out of the container.

As a variation and for fine motor skills ask students to use tongs or chopsticks to get the paaper out of the tin.
