The brand concept is to offer colourful clothes and home textiles with a unique and personal look and feel. The concept of sustainable design in nature’s own materials is the heart and soul of Gudrun Sjödén’s creative ethos. Today, Gudrun sells her colourful designs to customers in 52 countries all over the world – through her own stores, but also via her inspiring mail order catalogues and an irresistible online shop. At the time of writing, the company has 20 stores; eight in Germany, six in Sweden, two in Norway and one each in Copenhagen, Helsinki, London and New York. The company currently has 350 employees and turnover in the region of SEK 750 million. col oUrs of bUrma Our Summer Collection 2016 is inspired by the fine craftsmanship and folklore of MYANMAR/ BURMA. It focuses on heritage textile techniques combined with colours evoking tropical heat and the pattern motifs of the country’s flora and fauna. “The warm shades of Southern Asia have more appeal for me than the cool Nordic palette of home. Everything from tangy tones of yellowy-green through orangey-red fruit colours, to the ascetic undyeds worn by pilgrims en route to their sacred sites. And not forgetting the dark, warm reds of the Buddhist monks’ robes. These are ‘Colours of my life’, no less,” says Gudrun Sjödén, Owner and Creative Director. FINE CRAFTSMANSHIP In our artisanal range we were inspired by the time-honoured cultures that live on in Southern Asia. We came up with an ikat-weave dress, trousers in organic cotton featuring traditional tie-dye (a technique in which grains of rice are knotted into the fabric before dyeing, which makes each pair of trousers a one-off piece), and a lavishly crafted dip-dye shawl. The signature style in this range is the “Ikath” wraparound jacket in a heavier-weight, bias-cut cotton. The colourways are deliciously tropical – warm red, saffron yellow, yellowy-green and greeny-blue. ROMANTIC IN RANGOON This group of styles is inspired by an era when Rangoon was one of Asia’s most affluent and cosmopolitan cities. The result is a collection in floaty eco-cotton with eyelet embroidery, tucks and flounces – the perfect pieces for hot and hazy summer weather. The range consists of two light and airy dresses, a flounce skirt, a tunic and a pair of summery baggy trousers. The palette is themed on dusty shades of light ecru, light eucalyptus, heron and mulberry. SUMMER ON THE ISLAND – PERFECT-FIT PATTERNED SWIMWEAR What would a summer collection be without perfect swimwear and beachwear? This year’s swimwear is a choicely designed range in which the focus is on the details and a range of styles to suit different figures. The range features the summery “Korall” print in sky blue, black or multicoloured, and aside from a swimsuit, the bikinis and tankinis, also includes beachwear accessories such as kangas, hairbands, along with two dresses and a pair of shorts in a light and airy cotton weave. PAPAYA IN MY GARDEN Gudrun has always dreamt of a fruiting garden full of tropical delights like papaya, mango, peach and lychee. This dream inspired the “Papaya Garden” range with patterns drenched in sun yellow, orange, coral and sweet shades of green. Practical garments for gardening, with comfy pleats for ease and pockets galore for seed packets, gloves and secateurs. In response to popular demand from our customers, we have also included a t-shirt for the guys in this range – naturally featuring our lush “Papaya” print. ESSENTIALS Our essentials collection is the core of all Gudrun wardrobes. Simple styles in gorgeous colours and organic, natural materials for year-round wear and to suit women of all shapes and sizes. This summer, we really went to town with our beloved block stripe on tops and dresses in organic cotton – stripes are Gudrun’s absolute favourite type of patterning, and the first she explored as a designer. Gudrun Sjödén’s SUMMER COLLECTION 2016
