What can happen sometimes,is the water drawn through
your pool or spa draincan create suction.
Exactly! Ithappens whenthe drain iscovered orblocked andsometimes, the suction
is so strong,it can trap aperson andthey can’t
freethemselves.
This is what’s called an anti-entrapmentdrain cover. It’s specially designed to reduceor even prevent various forms of entrapment.

A. O. Smith cares about consumer safety and developed the innovative line of Guardian replacement motors with built-in safety vacuum release system (SVRS) to help reduce the likelihood of pool and spa full-body entrapment accidents. Guardian motors offer an extra level of affordable protection for pool owners and those under their supervision. When utilized in conjunction with proper drain covers and other safeguards including those prescribed by local regulations and the many optional yet valuable “layers of protection”, the SVRS protec-tion provided by a Guardian motor can help lead to in-creased pool safety for the entire family and a lifetime of enjoyment in and around pools and spas. However, no system or other safeguard can ever replace or reduce the need for safety-conscious behavior and constant supervision. As a reminder, children should be taught to always ask before approaching a pool or spa and must be supervised by a responsible adult at all times when in or around swimming areas. And everyone should be reminded to avoid playing near or sitting on drain covers.
